Cloudy & raining a little. Berti went up to church. Wedding mass of Clarence Braun & Verna Stiehl, she turned Catholic, single ring ceremony, bride wore dark blue, blouses & skirt, coat, & hat shoes; white crystahemums [sic], & bridesmaid Marie Braun wore the same only tan color; yellow flowers, Hugo Ray was best man; wedding dance at Kammler’s tonite, we went, had nice time; cake, Schmidts Orch.; of Herb & 2 sons, 2 Braun Wms. girls, & Edgar Wittenauer. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came bought 2 roasters here, 9 lbs. @ 15¢; cleaned & dressed them ready for tomorrow. Pap & Rose hauled bad old wheat to Waterloo got 91¢, lot is 96¢ today. Mr. & Mrs. Ed Brand of Alalabama [sic] visited us this afternoon, had supper here. Henry & family came this evening. Mamie came down then we went to the dance together. Bert Thompson was here to see Henry; so much company. Henry received a letter from Barrenphol’s lawyer on account of the colt business, he wants $25.00 if paid in short time. Oscar Birkner’s have a baby girl born yesterday evening, also Armin Geodelle’s have a baby girl. Otto Horn, suit agent at Waterloo, also Justice of peace 38 yrs. old was killed in an auto accident in town on Tues; Archie Wiehl was the one that had collision with him, on Fourth St. Libory he was thrown out of car, & never regained conscience; both cars turned over, & completely wrecked; they say; it is terrible, had left his home about ½ hour before it happened; John Hieken was with Horn at the time, but not hurt bad.

Papa went up in the woods. Cloudy & smoky weather. Wedding Bells are ringing today at Paderborn for Chas. Daugherty of Mo. & Elvira Haudrich; we went up to the dance, & my what a crowd, she got lot presents, we gave her a dresser scarf; Skaers played for the dance; she wore white satin dress, & all white also veil; her bridesmaids were, Annie Karban & Lorreta Haudrich, dark wine velvet dresses, with hats; & Elmer Karban & Daugherty best men; all dark blue suits; ushers Cryil [sic – Cyril] Haudrich & guy; she was given at the altar by her father. Rosalia went quilting by Geo. Wagners; sunburst quilt. Bernice came & told her, to come over, Pap took chev. to Probst’s got it greased, brakes tightened, 30029 mile. Mr. & Mrs. Alex Katzler of St. Louis have a baby boy born last Fri. Louisa Braun is working there now. Ed Brand is here came this afternoon to Uncle Adam’s.

We washed, cloudy day. Papa is making axe handles. Henry brought load corn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped a little while just came from Belleville. Rain again this evening. John Whitesides & Hilda Boll have a little baby boy 10½ lbs. Hugo Probst’s are going to call there boy Wayne; Lena said. Mrs. Emil Bestman is in Red Bud Hospital, appendix trouble.

Papa went in the woods this afternoon, colder & raining tonite. Rose finished her dress. Berti baked cookies. Hugo Probst’s have a baby boy 9½ lb; born last nite.
Friday, Oct. 11, 1935
Henry came, had lunches & dinner here, finished up sewing wheat today. Leona is still sick, doctor says cold on kidneys. We spaded a piece in back yard; & this afternoon cleaned dining room, washed curtains. Bernice brought the mail; she also had a chain letter if we wanted to try it, making a quilt block, & when your name reaches the top, you will receive 125 blocks, we didn’t try it. Clara Wagner came paid for the lard 16 lbs @ 20¢. Mr & Mrs. Roy Pautler have a 10 lb. baby boy born at Red Bud hospital on Oct. 8, first born. Wm. Huebners have also a baby boy. Wilbur Grossman of Smithon [sic] & lady friend Irene Rayson had a head on collision last Sun. afternoon with Beckmann of Columbia on the Prairie du Rocher; injuries were treated at Red Bud hospital.

Awful cold, the green corn is froze. Went to Red Bud. Floyd Thompson is help out at the Texaco filling station there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped a little while. Mr & Mrs Joe Neary – nee Martha Schilling have a little baby boy born Oct. 4. Mr & Mrs Geor. Schilling grandparents first time. Barry May has a shooting match, also one at Oak Grove; Harry Kammler is giving a dance tonite Moonlight Orch. Adm 25¢. Donahue’s got a 2nd Anniversary free dance, Carlos Orch. playing. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & took us along to Donahue’s, big crowd. We went out to Henry’s this afternoon, nobody home, was expecting Kruse to come & look at the horses, so we stayed awhile, then went to Wm. Ganley’s, but got no answer there, found out through that they were at home; but they didn’t hear us. Jack Cody was put in jail last nit, for accusing Farago for burning his barn down, one day last week; is out again now.

We washed, ironed, patched. The Ladies Aid of the Evangical [sic] Church is giving a euchre party at Kammler’s Hall tonite. Werner Kammler is hauling coal in for Geo. Wagner. Al. Eckert had a accident in Belleville Fri. night, fender, & wheel smashed, to the corner to fast & upset on curbing, has the car fixed now. Milton Wagner’s called there little boy Darwin & Geo. Lorbergs called there girl Romona. Rose & Bert went to Waterloo, took papa watch in again & left it there for awhile now; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went to the euchre, Uncle had 11 & got sauce pan, & Bert had 10 got little rug; not much of a crowd, & no prizes, 7 euchre tables.
Thursday, Sept. 12, 1935
Canned 2 qts. pickles & ½ pt. tomatoes. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s helped put up hay; made 17 loads, stacked; Emil & Clem Parker helped; they had lunches & dinner there. Bert got flower slips from Mrs. Rennecker & Mamie; planted them out. Mrs. Rennecker came over this evening & got some from ours. George Lorberg’s have a baby girl born last week; getting along nicely. 3 girl 1 boy. Frank Kroll moved his furniture & family from Al. Monike’s place to upstairs in Manier’s place, couldn’t agree together. Dr. Isselhardt was in Hecker at his office in Kammler’s building, opened up again Wed. from 1 till 4 o clock, every week; Rev. Hosto hit a 80 yr. old man at Mascoutah & killed him, he was only driving 20 mi hr. the policeman saw it also, the man ran in front of his car.

We cleaned chicken house; canned peaches got 93 qts. Made perserves [sic]. Henry & family came got pk. basket peaches to cook as perserves [sic]. Elmer Weihl has a baby girl born at E. St. Louis on Aug. 23, – 2 weeks later than Rochies [? – unclear], make 2 grandaughters [sic] of Louis Weihl. It was in the paper that Al. Eckert 15 of Hecker was arrested for speeding last Sun. night at Belleville.

Leona & Billy came, had dinner; remodeled her dresses. Henry brought the tractor & started plowing, it rained heavy couldn’t make hay; had lunch, Richard is out again to; was here. Seen in the Waterloo paper Vincent Walsh & Helen Keckritz were married Aug. 8 in St. Louis. Archie Wiehl has a little baby girl.
