It surely was hot yesterday 104 highest at 4 P.M. We are having chicken dinner. Mrs. Gertie Irose 44 yrs. old is being buried at Chester Ill. this morn. 9 o’clock mass by Fr. Tecklenburg of Evansville, for Fr. Lemen of Chester left for Nebraska. Seen in Messenger Fr. Freund is to be assistant at Muryphsboro [sic] for 6 weeks; at present he is at Waterloo. Clarence Heberer of Mascoutaha [sic] have a baby boy born on June 11 nee Marie Fults, Bertie’s 2nd yr. school teacher.

Pap & Rose went out to Henry’s before 5 ‘o clock; had lunch & dinner & finished cutting oats now; at noon, got Emil down & he helped put the binder in the shed; has about 2 hrs. shocking to do yet. Ralph Rausch came & pd. the balance $5. on ball ground there dance was fairly well attended Sun. nite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we went to Chester to see Gertie Irose; she sure looks natural & good, she has been in bed for 5 mons; & was terrible sick the last 10 days. Hubert said, had a cancer; she was at the home of Schroeder Ambulance & Undertaker, they are remodeling the parlor at present time; When we got to Chester, the shift gears wouldn’t work on our car, got it repaired at Chester Cowell’s garage. Walter Gregson were down, & McDermott, Doyl’s May’s. The crops don’t look so good down there. Leo Orlet of Paderborn, stopped in while in town this evening.

We all went out to Henrys, all day, came home for supper. Rose went home at noon to feed; Finished cutting wheat & started oats. We washed, ironed out there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this eve. they were at Mrs. Benedick funeral, Grandsons carried her, Benedick, Oscar, Bill & Henry Birkner, Roy Gregson, Ben Schilling; Awful hot day.

We clipped old hens wings. Aunt Mary shoes from Chicago Mail Or. & were to small had to send them back today. We had beef soup dinner. We ate 3 springs already, sure good, we got 111 old hens. There is Church pinic [sic] at Dupo today, were we got chances to win a V8 Ford; but I guess we won’t win anyway. Mr. Geo. Homringhausen gets buried this afternoon. Rose & Bert went to the funeral, down to Red Bud only to Dashner’s, he looks natural awful large funeral, Pall Bearers were, 4 fellows of Waterloo, J. Schmidt, L. Zimmer, Metzer, Friederich, Schuette & guy of Red Bud; Rev. Brink had the services at the undertaker parlor, & also at Round Prairie Church & Cemetery; he was 55 yrs. old, had a copper coffin & vault. This evening there was some fellows ran around our hours, one was H. Davis of Belleville, he should of brought a boy along, that he picked up on the road, & kid got away from him, Elmer Kammler came here, he had the kids shoes, what he dropped, in alalfa [sic] field.

Mrs. Rennecker got 1 qt. milk. Bert send out order of for a dress & things. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went to Geo. Reheis’ funeral, very large, also went out to the cemetery, had a concrete vault. Ed. Brand was here to at the funeral. Eggs 16¢. It is cloudy & dusty weather, raining a little.

Went to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up early, went to go to see Mrs. Nic Loehr – nee Cortner, who died yestday, from blood poison, a scratch from a pin; funeral will be tomorrow morn. at Paderborn. Sure is a beautiful day, on top, & plenty mud. Mr. Chas Hill left yesterday to be gone all summer he say’s, going out digging for gold & hidden money, intends to be a millionaire, when he arrives home, hen’s flat now, be sould of said [? – unclear]. We got beef roast for dinner. Eichenseers brought it along from Smithon [sic]. Jim & Dick Novelety [sic] Boys, & hot footer & saxphone [sic] player are playing at Oak Grove Park tonite, & Orvil Bocker of Floraville is having a birthday dance at Pautler’s & has Skeets & Frankie & Ozark Mountain radio stars playing, all the stars are out, around her tonite. We went, sure had a nice time, big crowd; & wonderful floor show.

Berti ironed, patched. Rose & Berti went out to Henry’s, did the washing, & brought it along home, hung it in the basement, 5 degrees above zero, but getting colder rapidly, some places 46 below, Dakota 22 below; sure cold weather, first since 1918 around here, they claim. Burdgorf got our heifers, 3 of them yesterday. Rang over the lines for Mr. Richard Myerscough’s funeral tomorrow at 9 o clock at Ruma, he was pretty old already.

S. Rennecker got 1 qt. milk. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rose & Bert went along down to Boll’s, a little while, then went to Belleville, Bert got coat $5.67, nice one. Mr. Boll was 87 yrs. old large funeral Koch Undertaker; people came from all over. Berti mailed a card for Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary a request for Oscar Birkner’s 13 Wedding Ann. to sing “Red Sales in the Sunset,” Sat. morn, & also asked for acidine [sic – accordion]. Presidents’ Birthday Ball all over this evening, 1 at Waterloo at Odd Fellows Hall.

Finished ironing, patched. We listened to the King George’s funeral service at London England from KMOK, started at 7 & finished 8:30; but there it was 1:30 in the afternoon. Mr. Chas D. Boll died last night 10:50 age 87 yrs; rang the bell this morning; he wasn’t ill very long; that is not bad sick. Eggs 23¢ here. Warmer this morn. 5 below zero in St. Louis. Steve Rennecker got qt. milk. Jac Earle was here on business.

Pap & Rosalia went to Red Bud to John Schumacher’s funeral, so many people, the church was crowded; 11 priests with Fr. Stern. Fr. Schumacher & Harbaugh said mass; Fecklenburg sermon. Rose & Berti went out to Blackburn’s School, to see the program; It was pretty good; Alf. May’s boy was Santa. Quite a few people were there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she went to church, he went down to Red Bud. They went home & came back again, stayed in town all nite. Henry & family also came up awhile, got overalls, tablets, & tops etc. had candy, nuts, apples, cookies. Received Christmas card from Duddenhefers.
