It rained last night & nearly all day. Bertille called up all around see how everybody was. There all in bed at Henry’s except Bobby. Mrs. Geodelle is out there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary is about the same yet. Dr. Schmidt from Red Bud was up at Hill’s this morning, they are both awful hoarse. Papa got the papers went it stopped raining, isn’t much in it, thought that a few got paid for there land for the hard road on Route 156 from Waterloo to Hecker. Mary J. Kemp got $26.00. Jennie Kemp heirs $82.00. Bessie Parker $225.00. Leslie Wilkinson $57.50, don’t know how it is they all got paid, & guess wouldn’t give. Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Heumer of St. Louis have a baby girl born Dec. 27 Tues. 8 lb. 14 ozs. she was formerly Minnie Geodelle, Gus’ sister. Arthur Stiehl cut his hand pretty bad, they had to take him to the doctor.

Papa got his hair cut & shave this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & went along with us to Belleville. It is in the Waterloo paper that Cornealia Petri 24 & Marcus Mentel 21 son of Henry Mentel where married on Thanksgiving Day & also John Heiken Jr. married Arline Meyer on the same day. The license of Frank Geschwender 23 & Mildred Becthloftt 20. Roy Stauenfbiel’s have a little baby boy since Nov. 30 they have 4 girls & 1 boy.

We fixed a gravel walk out to the chicken yard, & also brick & filled up around it. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here with us, soup, salmons, sweet potatoes. Papa & Rosalia went out & got a load of gravel. We went out to Uncle Fred’s tonite & got some flowers to plant along side of our walk. We got the Waterloo paper & took it along. Hy. Ronnerberg came a while too. Seen in the paper that Herbert Hill – Chas. Boy & Pearl Fischer, – Hy. Fischers girl where married last Sat. at Nashville, she is 17 & him 19, they live with Chas. Hills. Cyrus Hill have a little baby boy born last Sat. at St. Clements Hospital at Red Bud, they have a boy & girl.

This morning there where 2 airplanes flew fast around Hecker, they sure made a noise. There was people going around selling rugs, & some linen & one apples $1.25 ¢ bu. Fred Nobbe Sr. passed away last Thurs; he was 93 years of age. Mr & Mrs. Leo Kohler have a baby girl since Sept. 3. Mr. & Mrs. Matt Crowe celebrated there Crystal wedding anniversary last Tues. Mr. Chas. Boll was 84 yrs. old last week & Sun. Chas. Heoreth came home from the hospital & then they had 38 for supper.

Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Spalt of Pine Lawn have a little baby girl born Aug. 31. Papa went down to Hy. Armstutz, to haul out crushed corn. Henry was up & got 4 barrels of whey. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & then went to Robert Lauts, Victoria Schaefer is there; she called out there to them & told them to come. Herman Pinkel of Waterloo died & was buried today.

We where at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & papa went out to Louis Armstutz’s quarry & got 85 little fish & put them in our pond; all catfish except one sun fish. Henry & family where here for dinner, then we went to the Evangical [sic] pinic [sic] in Manier’s park, ate supper there, 40¢; they had a nice day & crowd pretty fair. Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Matthews of Waterloo, have a little baby girl since yesterday 10½ lbs; she is by Geodelle’s at home.

We went to Red Bud. We had chicken dinner by Uncle Fred’s today. Ronenbergs brought them one. Today is fish fry & dance at the Rod & Gun Club. Uncle Adam & Emil came up to see Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, then, Joe & Josie Gregson came but they wanted to come & see us, but being we where over there, they stayed there to, we all had supper. This evening we ate Watermellon [sic]. Seen in the paper that Ed Birke has a baby boy, they have 2 a girl & boy, & also Slyvester [sic – Sylvester] Doyle have a boy, first born. Elmer Kammler’s called there Donald Robert. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Laut sponsors.

We cut the wings of our chickens this morn, so they stay in. Sowed turnip seed today. There was a man round selling muskmellons [sic] & watermellons [sic] & from New Athens. Henry was here this afternoon, he got whey. Hy. Armstutz got the hayrake this afternoon. Walter Pour’s have a baby boy since last Thurs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening. Henry & family came up after the mule.
