Friday, Feb. 17, 1933

Papa hauled wood. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here & from here they went out to watch the men work on the bridge. Jake Neff came this evening & paid for his hog. Mr. Frank Metzger died Wed. & buried tomorrow afternoon. Father Moneghan of Tiptown was trafered [sic] to Carmi Ill. & Rev. Traynor from there was sent to Tiptown. Harold Krumpke celebrated his birthday by giving a dance last Sun. night, at Burksville Station. The dance at Fahey residence last Sat. nite was fairly well attended. Hugo Probst was surprised last Thurs. nite & his friends gathered to celebrate his 27th birthday. John Herman suffereed a light stroke last Sun. morning. Mrs. William Koch of Coxeyville fell & fractured her hip & was taken to Clements Hospital at Red Bud. Dr. N. B. Paulter purchased the Chester Knitting Mill property in Waterloo for $5,000, to pack & storage quarters for the fruit rasied [sic – raised] on the Pautlert farms. Joe Sommer’s called there baby girl Laverne Francis, & A. R. E. Gaven got the free hair cut for selecting the right name.

Friday, Oct. 14, 1932

We fixed a gravel walk out to the chicken yard, & also brick & filled up around it. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here with us, soup, salmons, sweet potatoes. Papa & Rosalia went out & got a load of gravel. We went out to Uncle Fred’s tonite & got some flowers to plant along side of our walk. We got the Waterloo paper & took it along. Hy. Ronnerberg came a while too. Seen in the paper that Herbert Hill – Chas. Boy & Pearl Fischer, – Hy. Fischers girl where married last Sat. at Nashville, she is 17 & him 19, they live with Chas. Hills. Cyrus Hill have a little baby boy born last Sat. at St. Clements Hospital at Red Bud, they have a boy & girl.

Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1931

We washed today.  Anna Braun was here this morning.  This afternoon Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here.  Papa & Uncle Fred went down to see Anna Braun, & then afterwords went to Waterloo.  Uncle Fred bought Anna Braun’s house & buildings in Hecker today for $3,000.00.  A note as part pay.  Uncle Fred & Papa went over to see Elmer Kammler about the rent.  It is $10.00 every month.  Papa went down to see Jos. R. Braun this evening.  And ordered his license.  Jos. Watchel & Mr. Laut are each butchering 1 hog today.  Henry told us this morning that Rose Crook “nee” McDermott was buried this morning, she was in St. Clements Hospital in Red Bud, & was pretty bad sick, she had heart trouble.  They were just married about a year.  Ben Schilling bought Phillip Braun’s property, & Henry Braun sold 2 lots where his buildings are on to Clara Braun.  Everybody’s selling & buying now.  This evening Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker was here, we played 4 handed pinochle.  Steve and Bertille were partners & lost 5 games out of 6.
