We washed & ironed, pretty hot, 90 at 1:30 o’clock. Geo. Boll was around selling water mellons [sic], etc. we bought 2 muskmelon 10¢. Pap went out helped Henry spread lime dust. Leona is in Waterloo, Mrs. Geodelle was pretty bad sick for 3 days; is little better.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had lunch here, went home came back again this afternoon went to the pinic [sic], Evangical [sic] church; pinic [sic] Floraville Band in afternoon & Schmidt at nite. We had a watermelon eating this evening then all went to the pinic [sic], had large crowd. Mr. Fred Kern of Waterloo had accident in Hecker at Mertz store, car coming from the south, both were damaged a little, but nobody hurt. There is a free birthday dance at Pautler & wedding dance at Dreamland.

Pap went to Belleville this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went to the sale at Smithton. Triple birthday dance at Pautler’s tonite, Rythum [sic] Kings Orch. Adm. 25 Ladies free.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here all day dinner & supper he worked across the street. Leona & Billy [Willis] were up, she brought dress goods along & they sewed & made it for her. Richard Crowe won $4.25 playing bluey, sure lucky, that was half what they took in. Eggs 21¢

Rose & Berti went out to Uncle Fred’s helped them get things ready for pinic [sic], & chickens etc. Pap came out for dinner & then went to Jac. Dugan’s sale by Burksville; We came home after dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went up to pinic [sic] at 2 o’clock. We had a nice shower rain this afternoon. Armin Mier of Broad Hollow has sale this afternoon also. Went to the Church pinic [sic], but didn’t win anything. Annie Braun won the stove; quilt, H. Schwagel Smithton, $3 P. Hamacher; Bed Spread, F. Miller, cold packer, Ethel Parker, quilt – St. Louis. $2 Fr. Teonjes Paderborn, quilt, L. Schneider, $5 cash, St. Louis. 48 lb. flour. Waterloo. Josie Keller was out, was here also.

It rained a little yesterday eve. We cleaned chicken houses, baked bread etc. Ruma has church pinic [sic] today; not so hot. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had lunch here, he helped to put up the stand for pinic [sic] tomorrow. Pap got load corn, fodder at Henry’s. We cleaned radish & lettuce seed. Our white sow died. Berti went to telephone office & called Johnson Bros. at Belleville & they came & got it this afternoon. Sure cloudy & awful warm. Eggs 21¢.
Monday, Aug. 3, 1936
We washed, ironed; nice cool, put in clover hay. Jerome AuBuchon & girl of E. St. Louis, being married St. Patrick Church, in E. St. Louis this morning. Probst came looked at the Whip, the battery was dead, couldn’t get it started, got 1 of his in there now. Henry came & got limedust spreader. Louis Hofmeister of New Athens, have a baby girl from yesterday, all well. Clarence Hepp won the cedar chest at Smithon [sic] Sun. at homecoming.

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. We went out to Henry’s Billy’s [Willis] 3 yr. birthday, had lunch. Omer came there to. We went to Smithton Home Coming this eve. nice parade at 6:30 many beautiful floats; & lots of people.
