Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came & Bert [Bertille] went to Belleville with things eggs 32 [cents]; they left Marita here went home did there work & came back for supper. Bill [Klein] came this eve, played cards. Leo is going to trade his Ford for truck ford V8 from Bill soon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in going to euchre at Waterloo. Bert [Bertille] gave her 25 [cents] to play for her; also one at Broad Hollow Grange.

Saturday, April 24, 1934

Pap got his haircut, Mr. Griffin was here got some oats for his chickens. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came went along with us to Belleville, Bert got dress & hat etc., went to church. Henry & Floyd were up this morn. Eggs 17¢. Tax receipts came, much higher again this yr. $247. Bill Geodelle moved today from Omer’s Emil Schilling place to Bretsch’s some were near Broad Hollow, they say Emil has his place for sale.

Thursday, Feb. 4, 1937

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up nearly all day, him & pap went to Waterloo on business; had dinner here. This evening we went along with them, went out to see Uncle Adam & Emil, he fell on the ice again today, but not too bad, he looks good. Hy. Weigands have a baby boy born at hospital at Belleville on Jan. 26. first born, formerly Viola Rieso of Broad Hollow. Pretty cold 18°.

Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1936

Rose & Berti went out to Uncle Fred’s helped them get things ready for pinic [sic], & chickens etc. Pap came out for dinner & then went to Jac. Dugan’s sale by Burksville; We came home after dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went up to pinic [sic] at 2 o’clock. We had a nice shower rain this afternoon. Armin Mier of Broad Hollow has sale this afternoon also. Went to the Church pinic [sic], but didn’t win anything. Annie Braun won the stove; quilt, H. Schwagel Smithton, $3 P. Hamacher; Bed Spread, F. Miller, cold packer, Ethel Parker, quilt – St. Louis. $2 Fr. Teonjes Paderborn, quilt, L. Schneider, $5 cash, St. Louis. 48 lb. flour. Waterloo. Josie Keller was out, was here also.

Saturday, Nov. 24, 1934

Went out to Henry’s butchering the old sow. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary & Emil helped, we had lunch & dinner; took some sausage & rib along. We went to Waterloo to Paulters Hall, dance given by Armin Bectholdt, 22 birthday, Moonlighters playd, free dance, passed the hat around; & boy! did he have a crowd all over, Broad Hollow, Floraville, Paderborn & Hecker.

Saturday, Oct. 29, 1932

We went to Waterloo to church this afternoon. We took 12 doz. eggs along to Connors got 24¢ doz., & went to Barthels garage & got a service battery. George Boll & Napier where going around again this morning selling pork, he didn’t stop here at all. Karl Boll’s are having a hallowe’n dance at there place tonite, we have no invitation. Uncle Fred & Henry’s have. There is a dance at Broad Hollow tonite, music furnished by Ill. Roamer’s String Band Chas. HIll of Waterloo has to play bass on Mr. Hill’s place, he is sick with a bad cold.

Saturday, May 16, 1931

Rosalia & Bertille went to church & also cleaned.  Papa got crushing done & paid George Shilling lumber sawing.  We went in to Waterloo to Dan Geodell’s sale this afternoon, bought 15¢ worth, everything went cheap.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon or this evening & we went to the show.  The blanket winner was Loyd Pabst.  There play entitled was “The driven Daughter.”  Emery’s boys & Russ’s boy’s are giving a dance at the Brick House to-night, there is a play at Broad Hollow too.

Tuesday, April 7, 1931

We washed today.  Henry came up & plowed, & harrowed the potato patch, we planted 4 rows.  He was here for dinner & lunch.  Uncle Fred Aunt Mary came up & brought Henry’s potatoes along up for him.  They were here for lunch too.  Henry & family came up this evening.  Henry went to the Broad Hollow & Hecker Local meeting.

Friday, August 29, 1930

Today is “Billy” Kammler’s birthday.  He is 2 yrs. old.  Gus Hempe and a man from St. Joe were here this afternoon & got our little colt for $40.00.  They didn’t have it so nice to load her, she wasn’t used to any trucks.  They got her on & away they went.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to got a load of wheat, then Papa went to Red Bud with it.  Mr. & Mrs. Mike Wedel had a accident near by Waterloo, when they were crowded off of the hard road.  The Hecker School will open on Tuesday, Sept. 2 Gregory Mcarthy teacher.  Broad Hollow on Sept. 2 by Miss Mary Havey teacher.  McQuillen School Sept. 2 by Miss Lela Deuker teacher.  Hirst School Sept. 2 by Miss Ethel Deuker teacher.  Blackburn School Sept. 2 by Miss Klinklenberg of Marystown teacher.  Grace Axley the Marini School.
