Saturday, Nov. 24, 1934

Went out to Henry’s butchering the old sow. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary & Emil helped, we had lunch & dinner; took some sausage & rib along. We went to Waterloo to Paulters Hall, dance given by Armin Bectholdt, 22 birthday, Moonlighters playd, free dance, passed the hat around; & boy! did he have a crowd all over, Broad Hollow, Floraville, Paderborn & Hecker.

Monday, Nov. 7, 1932

It is cloudy. Walter Wittenauer was here this morn., to see if we had a place to keep a horse, so his children can drive up to school, we haven’t no place, he wants to sell pigs, on trade for stack hay. Papa went out to see his pigs, but he said he didn’t want them, skinny, he has 30 little pigs. We washed this afternoon & then spaded the garden. Mrs. Rennecker came over then awhile. Papa went to see Becthold at Smithon [sic]. Rennecker bought 40 bus. corn 20¢ bu. from Jac. Klein. Frank Geshwender & Mildred Bechtlloff where published yesterday in both masses for the 1 time. She was honoree at at halloween bridge party on Oct. 31. Mon. nite, by Mairan Hartnagel, 3 tables, there it was amouced [sic – announced] of the marriage in the near future. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in awhile, then they went to Wm. Birkner’s. The marriage license of Henry Wiegand 28 & Viola Rieso 19  was in the Sat. paper, they where married Sat, & had the dinner Sun by her grandma Kus[illegible]. They had no dance. Cara Jean Hilpert had 14 guests Sat. afternoon at her birthday party, 6 yrs. old.

Sunday, Oct. 16, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile. Mr. Bectholdt from Smithon [sic] was here & got his 6 pigs for $20.00. We went out to George Boll’s to shooting match but didn’t win anything, ducks & geese where raffled. We went to church this eve, talked with Marcella & boy’s Fahey’s. Mrs. Fahey is still awful weak. The St. Augustine’s Parish have euchre tonite. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Birkner are married 3 yrs. today.

Monday, Oct. 3, 1932

We washed, ironed. Mr. Becthold & Son from Smithon [sic] was here & looked at our sow & 6 pigs, he bought them 6 pigs, payed $10 down & is going to get them in 2 weeks, he just took the pigs for $20.00, that would be $3.38 a piece. Bertille went over to Hill’s gave them some news for the paper. Angela Eichenseer came home from the hospital today. Henry & Floyd came up after the whey barrels, took a basket green tomatoes along. Papa went up to Eichenseer & got Oscar Birkner’s cream can, it was Uncle Fred’s & he brought it along to the store.
