Monday, Jan. 10, 1938

Cloudy all day, we went out to Henry’s butchering, had dinner, finished up about 2 o clock brought load oats along. Went out again for supper; Geoddels also came out, we made gal. ice cream we took the ice & bannanas [sic] along out, played musci [sic]. Ray brought his guitar along. He said Pautlers had big crowd, Neff & Probst’s birthday dance, couple fights he said. Rhenhardts quite [sic – quit] playing musci [sic] now, Ray joined Keim’s Och. now, played first time with them Sat. nite; at Dreamland Palace; have several jobs.

Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1936

Pap went out to help Henry make a silo & fill it. Steve Renneker brought corn knife back. Mr. Chas. Schilling 23 & Mary Mathew 19 are getting married at Waterloo 8 ‘o clock mass this morn; double ring. Omer Schilling & Dorthy Schneider attendants. Rose & Bert went in to see the wedding, which was pretty nice; dressed in white & pink, carried flowers. Went to the dance at Dreamland, nice crowd, & pretty hot. Schoenborn & Skaer’s playing musci [sic]. Ben couldn’t play; Edna died last nite, is going to be shipped up & buried at Waterloo. Josie Keller came for supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came they all went to Red Bud church pinic [sic], she won a quilt & Josie pillow slips playing bluey. Putting in electric light posts.

Sunday, Aug. 9, 1936

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had lunch here, went home came back again this afternoon went to the pinic [sic], Evangical [sic] church; pinic [sic] Floraville Band in afternoon & Schmidt at nite. We had a watermelon eating this evening then all went to the pinic [sic], had large crowd. Mr. Fred Kern of Waterloo had accident in Hecker at Mertz store, car coming from the south, both were damaged a little, but nobody hurt. There is a free birthday dance at Pautler & wedding dance at Dreamland.

Saturday, August 1, 1936

Beautiful day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, had dinner here, him & pap went to Waterloo, Geo. Reheis place got sold at the court house, by Morrison for $4,055. to Amanda Reheis; just her & Hugo Probst bidding, it was 185 acres, awful cheap farm. We all went to Lambkin’s sale by Burksville, came home with Uncle Fred pap. stayed till it was over, wasn’t much of a crowd, but things went pretty good. John Wiegand by Smithon [sic] has sale too. There is two dances at Floraville tonite, both places for young & old. The KWK – Early Birds Chas. Stookey are to be at Dreamland tonite. There was an airplane crash 2 miles north of Smithon [sic] this morn. they were stunt flying & wing broke, the men got in parchutte [sic] & landed just were the wing & airplane fell & took his head off & broke the other ones leg, both are dead they say, terrible accident.

Boy! the shooting in town; terrible way late in the nite. Sure hot weather these days’ 96 & 100 today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Rose went to Harrisonville to Catholic Church pinic [sic], had chicken supper there, & came home. German Band from Belleville played. Free dances all over, Log Cabin by Red Bud, Floraville, Dreamland Palace.

Monday, Feb. 17, 1936

We washed, ironed. Snowing, Jim & Dick played at Dreamland last nite; next Sun. nite at Oak Grove; he announced. Went out to Henry’s, washed, brought it along home us again. Mr. & Mrs. Al. Cleveland came up awhile too. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here, went to see Geo Cortner’s radio, now they want to get one just like it, wind charger.

Sunday, Feb. 9, 1936

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner & supper. Omer Schilling was here this afternoon; We went to Pautler’s to a free double birthday dance tonite, big crowd. Rythmn [sic] Kings playing; Also was a free dance at Donahue’s but wasn’t very much; Dreamland had to close up to. Mr. Ed Frisch & Parrot was here looked at our horse.

Sunday, Jan. 19, 1936

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here. Mr. Edler & wife of St. Louis was here to see them. Bert & Rose went to Dreamland Palace, with Mike Freund; Jimmie & Dick Orch. Boy! it as good; nice crowd. There about all sick at Geodell; Ray has got the mumps, he & she are also ill. Leona is still about the same.

Sunday, April 28, 1935

Went to Red Bud; they made $80. clear at the card party Tues. nite. We went out to Uncle Fred’s for dinner & supper. Mr. John & Sam Krehrer, were also there, looked at implements etc. We went to Pautler at Waterloo tonite, free double birthday dance, musci [sic] by Cowboy’s, nice crowd, there was a wedding dance at Dreamland, Mueller & Shewer Jr. It rained nearly all evening. Ed Fahey said Martin May turned his car over last night at Vanburen’s, 5 in the car, went to Waterloo to get Rose, & going home, car came out Vanburens lane, & collision, May’s car is a total wreck, took Martin to the doctor, man from Renault was driving, Rose has scratches & bruised a little; that is the third car he wrecked in a short time. Mr. Robert Probst is having a dance at Manier’s tonite, musci [sic] by Vogel Bros. Adm. 25¢.

Slyvanus Schroeder is giving a free wedding dance at Dreamland Palace tonite. Papa got crushing done this morn.
