Uncle Fred’s 64 & Uncle Joe’s birthday. Rained last nite. Pap took load wheat to Waterloo got 81 [cents]. The Kunkel place was sold on Public Auction at Court House this morn. at 10 o clock by Morrison. Uncle Pete Reheis got it $1500. rather had to take it, he had the mortgage. Bill [Klein] came took Bert [Bertille] & pap along out to Henrys this eve.

Saturday, August 1, 1936

Beautiful day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, had dinner here, him & pap went to Waterloo, Geo. Reheis place got sold at the court house, by Morrison for $4,055. to Amanda Reheis; just her & Hugo Probst bidding, it was 185 acres, awful cheap farm. We all went to Lambkin’s sale by Burksville, came home with Uncle Fred pap. stayed till it was over, wasn’t much of a crowd, but things went pretty good. John Wiegand by Smithon [sic] has sale too. There is two dances at Floraville tonite, both places for young & old. The KWK – Early Birds Chas. Stookey are to be at Dreamland tonite. There was an airplane crash 2 miles north of Smithon [sic] this morn. they were stunt flying & wing broke, the men got in parchutte [sic] & landed just were the wing & airplane fell & took his head off & broke the other ones leg, both are dead they say, terrible accident.

Papa went to Waterloo to the Court House today to hear what the lawyers got to say about the stockholders of the Hecker Bank.  Bertille went to church this morning.  We washed the Whippet this afternoon.  Jac. Erle was here this morning.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Philip Freund were all here this evening, then we all went to the Euchre & dance given by the Catholics.  Adm. as enter 35¢.  Papa had 6 points & got a shawl, & Rosalia 5 points & got a tie, Bertille only had 3.  There were only 8 games played.  The bed spread was won by Raphael Neff, & Bertha Weber, & Marie Rausch got a choice on quilt & lumber jacket.  Eggs are 15¢ today.

Monday, September 1, 1930

Today is Labor Day.  Picnic at Red Bud, Smithton, Tiptown & Old time dance at Waterloo Court House Yard.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up about 3 o’clock and then we went down to Red Bud we were there a little while, then the fellow came with snakes & selling Cactus Oil & rattle snake oil.  There were four fellows singing and one playing piano, Snitzelbank & Adam’s Rib.  From there we watched the ladies or women saw wood on the stage.  About 5:30 we all went to Tiptown picnic & dance.  We were there a little while & the prizes were awarded.  1st prize Living Room Suite Mrs. Kate Brand from Red Bud, Ill.  2nd prize 9×12 rug A.L. Clifford Red Bud, Rt. 4 the same man what got the radio last year.  3rd prize wrist watch Herman Geoslling Waterloo, Ill. 4 rd. & fifth prize went to St. Louis & East St. Louis.  The dancing began in the evening.  Admission .25¢.  Ludwigs accordion & guitar, mandolin, furnished music.  Uncle Fred & Gregory Mcarthy played together.  We left from there & went back to Red Bud and listened to the music a little while there.  Rosalia was at church this morning.
