Friday, Aug. 21, 1936

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went to Waterloo to Mrs. Edna Hoeffener [nee] Schilling 32 yrs. funeral from Querheim to church & cemetery, pretty large funeral; got her at St. Louis last nite, from Colrado [sic] looks natural, thin & small, being sick so long, married 7 yrs. to John Hoeffner of St. Louis. The Sisters were also here. Six cousins palbearers [sic] Omer, Jerome & Martin Schilling, Frank, Oscar Birkner & Will Volkmann.

Thursday, Aug. 20, 1936

Sure hot; in Colrado [sic] at the mountains its snowing. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went to see L. Armstutz; he is getting better can talk again now, but had a piece taken out of his tongue & has it sewed again. Pap went out on a business trip, down by Red Bud. Eggs are 19¢

Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1936

Today is the Wedding of Vanderiet & Schields at Waterloo. Pap & Rose went out to Henry’s help with the silo again, aren’t finished yet; were out all day, got 5 loads cut; tractor is broke now. S. Renneker came this evening. The light & power Co. were putting in posts & bracketing.

Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1936

Pap went out to help Henry make a silo & fill it. Steve Renneker brought corn knife back. Mr. Chas. Schilling 23 & Mary Mathew 19 are getting married at Waterloo 8 ‘o clock mass this morn; double ring. Omer Schilling & Dorthy Schneider attendants. Rose & Bert went in to see the wedding, which was pretty nice; dressed in white & pink, carried flowers. Went to the dance at Dreamland, nice crowd, & pretty hot. Schoenborn & Skaer’s playing musci [sic]. Ben couldn’t play; Edna died last nite, is going to be shipped up & buried at Waterloo. Josie Keller came for supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came they all went to Red Bud church pinic [sic], she won a quilt & Josie pillow slips playing bluey. Putting in electric light posts.

Monday, Aug. 17, 1936

Both guys that fighted [sic] had to paid find [sic – fine] today; sent the fellow home, that was in jail. We washed, ironed. Henry came got the wagon. Pap went out got load corn fodder. Bill Reichshinder looked at the horses. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came brought a watermellon [sic] & Boy did it taste good. It is so hot day & nite, awful. Eggs 19¢ today.

Sunday, Aug. 16, 1936

Went to Red Bud. Fr. Stern is sick. Fr. Feldmann said mass & Simon of Belleville gave coummioun [sic]. Mrs. Henry Geodelle died & being buried this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we all went in to Waterloo just to the house; she looked good; lot of flowers. Firemen Pinic [sic] & fish fry & dance at Manier’s. Bert got $1.80 playing bluey. Lou Mertz got quilt & Al. Schillings girl the other one; both pretty; the dance was crowded & hot. Ed. Watchel & other guy got into scrap, the other guy knocked Edwin over, nose bleeding; they put him in jail & send Ed home.

Saturday, Aug. 15, 1936

Holiday. Went to church early. Henry & Leona went to Belleville left the kids here. Pap went along with Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary to Hazelriggs sale. Henry & Leona came this eve; we all went to Floraville to free calico hop at Keims tavern; nice crowd. Cloudy had little rain this morn.

Friday, Aug. 14, 1936

Sure hot these days. Pap & Rose went to Rolands, looked at his implements etc, he wants to sell out & move to the city. We cleaned, baked, etc. Roland & his son came here again this morn. pap bought him out, all implements & 2 horses for $200. got it this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, he helped yet, had lunch here. Rose & Bert went to Red Bud to church. Mrs. Kumke & Frank Finnerty are now married Red Bud church 6:30.

Thursday, Aug. 13, 1936

Pap went out to Henry’s, & help spread lime dust. Mr. Roland was here. We got our new Chicago Mail Or. Co. today. Eggs 20¢.

Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1936

Pap went out to help Henry again. We canned 8 qts. kraut. Had chicken dinner. Mondaville has church pinic [sic] today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & took Berti along, had chicken supper there, German Band played; in evening, we stayed till 8:30, had nice time. Pap brought Billy [Willis] along home at noon, & nearly bu. pickles; we canned 16 qts.& 1 gal. & gave some to the neighbors yet. Eggs 20¢. Streets in town look pretty nice.
