Washed ironed. Pap went to Henry’s, then to Maeystown to look at pigs; for him. Henry & Robert were up cutting & making hay 2 loads; had dinner & laundry, ice cream. Leo & Rose brought truck back got there car, got $11.95 for pig 210 lbs; top price $12.05. We had nice shower this eve; planted some more plants & beans.

Henry’s 33 yr. birthday. He was here cutting hay, had dinner here. Uncle Fred & A. Mary were up, she made the dinner. We went to Fr. Sterns funeral didn’t get back till 12:30 & never went out to cemetery, it took pretty long, about 90 priests there; from all over they came excepts Fr. Eshmann who is very bad sick at present, had no mass at Waterloo yesterday to much of a shock; Bischoff went to see him from Red Bud; church was crowded couldn’t all get in, was opened during mass, priests sang & played organ. Fr. Burn’s made a very nice sermon, he also made the sermon when Fr. celebrated his 25 yrs. priest, he was was 42 yrs. priesthood, 21 yrs. at Todds Mill & 21 yrs. at Red Bud came there on May 21 & died on May 21. Leo & Rose came got our truck to haul a pig to Strecks; tomorrow. Streck was out looked at cow, but didn’t buy went out to Henry’s, pap went along bought his 7 pigs, getting them Wed. $47.00 & cow for $48. Eggs 16¢; sent some cheese home with A. Mary.

Went to Red Bud; Fr. Dubren of Waterloo said mass, & so many confessions he had this morn. We stopped at Dashner’s funeral parlor to see Fr. Stern, laid out in purple vestments hat & shoes, opened all the way copper colored steel casket; looked good. Leo & Rose & we went out to Henry’s had dinner & lunch; celebrated Henry’s birthday; pap left at 2 o clock, had to be at Red Bud, brought Fr. Stern to church at 3 o’clock, 8 men on guard all nite along, pap turns was from 3 to 5. Bert [Bertille] came home with Leo & Rose, he stopped & milked yet. then went home came back again also Uncle Fred A. Mary, Bert went along all in Leo’s car, went to Red Bud to church, by Fr. Stern for ½ or then went out to cemetery to see were he would be buried, that makes 4 priests now buried there; also looked at Omer’s grave; has no tombstone yet; Seen the carnival west of town, didn’t go in, stopped at Log Cabin on way home free dance musci [sic] by Schmidts Orch; large crowd there. Wil – Leo Cortner was in a fight last nite at Floraville with Muskoffs was badly [? – unclear] hurt, they say.

Cloudy little shower this morn. Went to Belleville to dentist, church & shopping this afternoon; seen a man about 10 or 12 ft. hight walking the streets, adv. Rex Theathre [sic], & girl dancing on a Pontiac top; adv. pontiac cars. Fr. Stern passed away yesterday afternoon, Red Bud hospital; Leo & Rose came down, brought the horse back; Henry & family also came.

Cloudy & black sky this morn, had light shower of rain. We went to Leo’s, brought Jake along, he got the horse rode him up there to work by Leo’s; Mr. Orlet is out to came last nite. Ivo Buehler came brought cabbage plants here what Rose sent along with him for Henry. Pierre Laut got 1 qt milk. Went out to Henry’s, helped plant cabbage plants; Geodelle’s stopped a little while to then went to Dan Geodelle’s.

Pentecost. Went to mass. Henry & family & Leo & Rose were here for dinner & supper; & Uncle Fred & A. Mary came this afternoon for supper, we took pictures over across the street by A. Mary’s. bridal wreath bush, that is blooming so nice. There is a concert in the Evangical [sic] church tonite, Lipperts children is in the band. Carl Armbruster of Smithton is again in Belleville hospital, had motorcycle accident Sat. nite on Waterloo road; broke his leg. Staheleber was also riding with his motorcycle but was farther ahead when it happened ran into truck or something.

It is pretty cold this morn. Olive [Olivia] Laut was here wanted pap to plow that piece here for them, but we only got 1 horse now; so if it don’t rain, Rob. going to plow this eve. We went to Leos this eve. awhile. Jake & boys were there, he plowed this afternoon. Lauts aren’t plowing this eve. Pierre got qt. milk, 5¢. Rose has her garden all filled; growing nice.

Cleaned chicken house & barn, worked in garden. Pap went on business trip & also to Waterloo to a big sale on Pautler’s farm west of town; people from Marrissa [sic] have a sale, on stock & tractors etc. Cool this morn. A fellow here selling household articles; bought fly swatter. The fire engine whistle was sounded this morn; called to the home of Andrew Mueth in Paderborn, were there house was on fire; but it was put out, before they got there. Rose came this afternoon, helped plant out flowers; took some along home, we planted all the house flowers out. Mrs. Rennecker came over awhile this afternoon. Jake Neff was here on business this evening. Cool again tonite.

Mothers Day. Went to Red Bud mass. We received a 2 books chances yesterday from Dupo, 1st prize $700.00 & 2nd. $300.00, pinic [sic] on May 31; we get them every year. Went out to A. [Aunt] Mary’s for dinner Josie Keller was out & this afternoon all went to Leo’s had supper there. Leo & Rose came down to milk station this morn, put in complain about getting there milk back all the time; they brought some sour milk along here to make cheese with. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came up this eve.; we went to the firemens dance at Manier’s Hall nice crowd, Skaer’s played; cleared $40. at the door. Adm. 25¢.

Put our chicks out to 5 hens, feeding Wayne from Mertz, he delivered 100 lb. & bran for ducks. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Pap went to M. Elonka sale at Tipton this morn; didn’t buy nothing. Uncle got shovel & baskets. Al. May’s boy brought the Int. here for Uncle Fred. We went to Leo & Rose tonite, took flowers along to plant out, & A. Mary took tomatoe plants. Clem Parker has a new car, delivering milk, set a milk cans in underneath.
