Pap got crushing done. Rob went along up. Henry & Floyd came to get crushing done to. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came. Berti went along to Belleville, they had supper here. Joe Griffin came here & put a radio in for us Wilcox Gay – $25 complete. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed & listed to it this evening.

Berti went out to Henry’s, cleaned & washed, ironed. Leona stayed at Waterloo, took here in yesterday, still there, has it in her stomach, the doctor says. Robert came along home with us, had supper & breakfast. Joe Griffin came looked over our telephone, but everything is OK he found a lose connection by Wagners alley. A fellow close by Belleville, came looked at our cow & pigs. We played lotto, Rob. played musci [sic].
Monday, Oct. 14, 1935
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, she & Rose & Berti went to church funeral mass of Mrs. Griffin, we went up to see her last nite; looks natural & had the most beautiful flowers & so many room nearly filled; the church was crowded; Dashner Undertaker, four sons, Steve, Ed, Joe & Albert & Noel Roscow & Wm. Harbaugh were pallbearers; & Mr. Griffin, & Pearl, surviving; didn’t open it in church. Mr. Hill came got the telephone dues. Mr. Bill Lehr flus inspector was here, our chimney needs repairing. We went out helped Leona wash, took ours along to; finished it all up; cleaned kitchen. Eggs 25¢. Wm. Ganley came paid interest; stayed awhile.

Mrs. J. Griffin died last night; at her home here; will be buried Mon. morning 9:30 o’clock mass to Waterloo cemetery. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped, we all went to Mrs. Euler estate sale, at Mueth’s residency, were she lived; Starr & Hartmann auctioneer; bought a few articles, things brought good prices & lot of it, canned goods, meat etc. quilts, bedding, all was sold. We all went to Pautler’s this evening; John Rist birthday dance, ladies free, gents 25. Moonlight Orc; large crowd, free dance at Donahues.
Tuesday, Sept. 24, 1935
Pap & Rose went out to Henry’s again, had lunches & dinner, work ground corn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, she & Bert went to the Wedding mass of Joe Griffin & Tillie Hafley; the bride was dressed all in white & veil, tail dragging along, the flower girl, Steve Griffin’s, dressed in pink carring [sic] basket flowers came first, then the bridesmaid a friend teacher of her’s, with yellow dress trimmed with brown velvet, with shoes, hat, gloves to match, yellow roses, then the bride all white, the groom & Albert & brother best man, with dark blue suits, came in through sanctuary; the bride & groom kneel together in the sanctuary, & best [man] down below the communion railing; quite a few people in church. Bert went to Liz Boll’s got telephone batteries 50¢. Ettling was here, nobody home, Uncle Fred send him out to Henry’s, were he seen dad there paid Inter. & $100 of principle. Holiday in city, big parade, & pinic [sic] Legion, a float went by here up & down, Little Egypt, Southern Ill. 5 division, cop in front & in back, protecting & giving it right way on hard road.
Monday, Sept. 23, 1935
We washed, ironed, scrub basement, dye dress & Oh my. Papa went to Waterloo this morning, got chimney fixed for Henry, & this afternoon him & Rose went out to Henry’s, he is going to roll the ground, while Henry cuts corn, had lunch. It rained this morning, pretty nice shower; but not near enough, the sun crossed the equator, Equinox Days. Pap stopped at Emils & gave him his card from Clem; Uncle Adam got his foot hurt last Tues. they hauled ground in the chicken house the wagon ran over his foot, swollen quite a bit he can’t walk on it; never went to the doctor so far yet. The milk trucks, Wittenauer, Gregson & Brauns 2 trucks are hauling sand for Clarence Braun’s to built a new house on the corner by J. Brauns land; that is another getting married in the near future, she is taking instructions for religion at present, Stehl. Joe Griffins wife also took lessons; catholic religion. George Lorberg’s got there baby girl christened yesterday; Ivo Rapp & wife sponsors.

Went to Red Bud; mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary dropped in a little while; after church; there going to have euchre in the school hall on Oct. 3. Joe Griffin & Tillie Hafley are to be married Tues. morn. 9 o clock mass here. The sisters are giving a shower Wed. evening in the school hall for Rosella Braun & Angela Eichenseer, Sodality’s invited, have to bring cake or sandwiches & present for each one; some shower. ha, – approaching marriages. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rose & Bert went along to Floraville homecoming, such a crowd, all afternoon, the chicken was all gone early; lot people from the city; 7 quilts were raffled for 10¢. So many cars went by today, the Mission Rally is held at Ruma this afternoon, 2 o’clock, 2 sisters are departing for China Mission fields.
Sunday, Sept. 8, 1935
Went to Red Bud. Out to Uncle Fred’s dinner & supper. It rained a nice shower. Joe Griffin was annouced [sic] for 3rd time but the wedding was postponed, Mrs. Griffin is very low at present. Pete Kaiser had a head on collision car is total wreck, last Sun. at Belleville, 5 persons, were all taken to the hospital, he didn’t know nothing for 2 hrs. had a fractured skull; but is pretty good now. Holy Name Conference for men at Trenton today. We went to Paderborn to Totch’s to a free dance; & Boy! it started in to rain. Oh My!! the crowd started to leave, sure did have a crowd. Schoenborn & Schaefer played musci [sic]. Totsch’s served hot rump corn beef sandwiches. Kraemer & boys of Millsdadt, were going to fight, a constable made order, quite a few were feeling good. Geo. Mueth fell down outside, long as he was.

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, we went along with them to Columbia to the Homecoming, had a wonderful time seen the parade, was interntained [sic] by Jimmie & Dick Radio stars, boy! they were good; danced free in afternoon. came home, ate supper, then went to Totch’s at Paderborn. Boy! what a time fish & chicken fry; free dancing day & nite Schoenborn & Schaefer playing ; & large crowd; Hillsheim & Gus Frish were there advertising, the church pinic [sic] for Wed. Goe Griffin & Tillie Hafley were published 1st time.
