We washed, ironed, Pete Watchels called there little girl Alsace, & George Lorbergs called there boy William. Ed Scheinder is making hay. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up. Marshal Schender of Smithon [sic] was here, & then him & papa went out to look at Uncle Freds horses. A man was here trying to sell electric plants. We all went out to Ed. Parker’s dance, the crowd wasn’t so large as the other time. Henry Keorber announced a dance at John Lipperts June 10 musci [sic] furnished by Riverside band. Rheinhardt played tonite. Henry Henze Sr. died between 4 & 5 o clock this evening, he has been ailing for quite awhile. Mrs. Pete Wittenauer was buried this morning at Belleville, St. Luke’s church, Green Mount cemetery.

We had an awful wind storm last nite & rain all morn, & afternoon. Papa got crushing done, he got his hair cut. Mr. Laut is awful bad, they didn’t expect his to live till morning, he doesn’t speak any more. Mr. & Mrs. Geo. Lorberg’s have a 11 lb. baby boy born this morning, they now have 2 girls & boy. We killed a hen, boy! it sure was fat; baked mince pie, devil food & Spice cakes. It rained all afternoon; & boy! I mean it did rain & water.

It is raining all day, lots of water. We killed a chicken for tomorrow Easter Sun. Miss Marcella’s Cortner 16 oldest daughter of Nick Cortner’s had her baby christened last Sun. afternoon & Qurin’s, Lena Roth, had there’s christened the other day. The rabbit laid 14 eggs this morning. We killed a chicken for tomorrow.

We where at Red Bud. Herman Goessling & Adelia Wagner where published 1-2-3 time, wedding is Tue. morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for dinner, then we all drove out to look at bridge, where they men are working, then went to Henry’s, but was nobody home there; then we went back home again, played 2 games pinochle, they went home. Mr. & Mrs. Alfred May came to pay Uncle Fred interest, they stayed for supper, then till 8:30, they left then to go to see Mrs. Codty, who isn’t feeling so very well & also to see Ambrose Doyl’s boy at the hospital, he got operated for appendix. Mr. & Mrs. Ed. Burke have a little baby boy; & also Mr. & Mrs. Joe Kunkel. Mrs. William Koch of Coxeyville is being buried this afternoon at Waterloo Evangical [sic] Church & cemetery, she was taken to the hospital on Feb. 10 & died a week later Feb. 17, she had fell & fractured her hip; she has two sons, Roy of Waterloo & Elmer, Columbia & adopted daughter Edith Rudolph; at home, she was 59 years old.

Papa & Rosalia cleaned chicken houses. Bertille washed, we quilt this afternoon, we got 11½ for eggs today. Josie Keller is 43 yrs. old today. Bertille wrote a letter to Creses tonite. Walter Wittenauers have a little baby since Sat. nite, Cecilia Coop is working there.
Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1933
It is so cold, hard to keep the house warm, zero & below, water froze, in the kitchen, in the pipes. Gilbert Birkner was here & we took a chance from him for a quilt same as Cyril’s. They have as high as 200 chances to get divided between 10 boys, each are having 20 numbers, then is $10.00 for each quilt. We have 3 hens setting & 2 more over to set. There is to be a euchre in Paderborn given by St. Michael’s Church. Adm. 25 & cold. Miss Alvira Braun oldest daughter of Phil Braun is now employed in St. Louis doing housework. Bill Haudrich’s christened there boy, Leon Paul, she is now home from the hospital.

We washed, ironed. Beautiful day like spring. Papa went up in the woods, this afternoon. Louis Dehn is butchering his hog here at Renneckers 600 lbs. Robert Laut is also, he got 2 hogs from Christ Buehlers. Edwin Reheis had there little baby bay christened the other Sun at Smithon [sic] by Rev. Hosto, called it Emil Fred, was sponsor. Papa brought 1 gal. milk along for the pigs. We went out to Henry’s this evening. Papa & Henry went up to Joe Mueths, this 12 o’clock, he is pretty bad, the doctor gives him up, he breathes so loud, & some times not at all, girls are all at home.

We are smoking our summer saussage [sic] again. It is awful windy today. We fixed on our machines, put the new license on. Henry brought a load of corn up. Mr. & Mrs. Louis & Bill Reisfchender of Waterloo where here & looked at our mules; eggs are 10¢ today. the Salvation Army men, where going around begging & playing musci [sic], I don’t think they got very much. We went to Aunt Marys birthday, 56 yrs. old. dancing & singing where the main features, cake & doughnuts where served to the following people, Mr. & Mrs. Ed. Parker & family, Mr. & Mrs. Frank, Henry, Willie, Oscar, Birkner’s & family, Mr. & Mrs. Louis Birkner, Mr. & Mrs. Louis Armstutz; Mr. & Mrs. Henry Brand & family, Adam Eckerts family, Schaefers, Krehres, Papenbergs, Parkers, Robert Probst, Jerome, Hillsheim, Wilfred & Leo Cortner, Loraine & Edwin Neff, Clem Parker, Mr. & Mrs. Ignatz Neff. Oliver Kuehn. It started in raining & wind got to the north, & it sure did get cold. Philip Meuth got the priest out home, some one must be sick. Bill Haudrich of Red Bud had a little baby last Thurs. Jan. 19. Emil Haudrich & Elizabeth Buss where baptism sponsors. It is a little boy. Mr. Ferd. Vogt & Miss Mary Kroll of Hecker, graduated nurse & daughter of Mrs. Agnes Kroll where married Mon. morning at 6’o clock mass, they will make there future home in Waterloo.

We washed and iron & baked bread today. Papa & Rosalia got a load of oats at Henry’s this afternoon. Cyril & Clarence came down this eve, & got each a bu. oats & sack of hay for 300 for there rabbits. Aunt Mary called up this evening, she was quilting at Henry Birkners today. Ed. Meng was over & paid Uncle Freds int. Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Reheis has a little boy since Dec. 27, they have now a girl & boy. Mrs. Joe Mueth nee Brocs died at 5 o clock this eve. Papa went to town. Miss Martha Boll of St. Louis called out to Geo. Boll’s & congraulated [sic] him on his birthday. Joe Watchel is butchering.
Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1933
Papa & Bertille went out to Uncle Fred’s to saw wood, J. Reheis, Ronnerneberg, O. Birkner, helped. Karl Boll sawed it, we had dinner there. Rosalia came home this afternoon & washed everything before we got back. Wm. Ganley was here & paid part Int. $67.50, but he still owes $57.50 & Int on $67.50 that $1.15. It is awful cloudy & dark this afternoon. Boll charges $1.00 hr. sawing wood, & rest 20¢ hr. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Grohmann have another little baby girl, on Dec. 22, they now have 2.
