Thanksgiving. Rose & Berti went to Red Bud to mass. We all went to Waterloo & then to see Lee Jeffrey at Foster Pond to look at pigs. They have Turkey & chicken dinner & supper at the School Hall, today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came down awhile; so many people there they say from all over. Dances all over tonite, double birthday at Pautlers Weinhoff’s, & free wedding dance at Oak Grove, & a wedding dance at Donahue’s. Snowed a little today.

Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1935

Papa worked in the woods. We made quilt patches. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went to Pautler’s to Norma’s Geodelles & Otto Stadel wedding dance, & Boy! was it a crowd; she got a few presents, going to leave next Wed. for South Dakota. Moonlight Orch. played.

Saturday, Oct. 19, 1935

We baked bread & pie. Went butchering at Henry’s about 9 o clock, had dinner finished at 3:30; everything went good, about 250 lb. hog. its awful warm, have to fry things in, we took some; so Uncle Fred went there tonite to take some. Rain a little this morning. We all got weighed out there Floyd 51 – Rob 53. Billy [Willis] 30, Bertie 118 – Rose 163 – Leona – 122 & pap -165. Henry – 130. Bernice brought the mail. Eggs 25¢. Norma Geodelle – daughter of Jac Geodelle & Armin’s sister was married this afternoon to a fellow from South Dakota at the home of her parents, he worked for Roland Eichelmann, him [Roland] & his wife are the attendants, wedding dance next Wed. nite at Pautlers. Otto Stadel his name, he came 2 weeks ago here, they were corresponding for a long time, she says. Hy. Spalt & Katie Stallmann of Prairie du Long, to be married this afternoon we heard.

Thursday, Oct. 17, 1935

Nice day. Papa worked in woods this morning hauled load home. Henry came brought load corn, also brought one last Sat; he plowed here had dinner; papa sewing rye. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, worked across the street. Renniecker girl of Ruma & boy of Evansville are being married at Ruma first wedding in the church since 7 years. John Myerscough’s were up last nite from Ruma also; at the dance, there is to be wedding dance in the hall there to nite. Dorthy Myerscough is going to college far away & Margaret to Ruma convent, so the only got 1 girl at home Flo & she goes to Red Bud High school. Bernice brought the mail. We went up to see Uncle Adam & Emil, he can walk a little on his foot again now. Kammler’s were out & Clara came over & got the lard, 75 lbs. It rained this evening, nice shower.

Tuesday, October 1, 1935

Beautiful day; Church pinic [sic] at Columbia, we have chances for that 110 pc. dinner set, 100 lb sugar, 2 pr pillow cases, cedar chest, quilt; Catholics got euchre & dance at Paderborn tonite Hillsheim & Braun wedding, 9 o clock mass. Uncle Fred, & Aunt Mary came & her & Bert went to mass. Walter Pour’s twin boy ring bearer & Doris Braun her sister flower girl dressed in blue; then came Cecilia Pour, dark green. Velvet dress & hat & flowers, she was maid of honor; bridesmaid Alvera had purple velvet dress & had, both had silver shoes; her oldest sister; then the bride with white satin dress & long veil, carrying lilly [sic] of Valley boquet [sic]; groom & his brother best man came in at the sanctuary, dark blue suits, they showered them with rice; lot people in church, Jatho’s all through [sic – throw] rice too, he used to board there; he works St. Louis Dairy here; all kind of ribbons & tin cans, card boards hanging on. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went along to the wedding dance at Maniers Hall, nice crowd, Mellow Moon Orh. of Belleville played; a rose was given to all the ladies; & slipper was sold $1.25 & collection was taken up for pay expense. “Let Me Call You Sweeheart [sic] waltz” was playing for bride & groom; she received an awful lot of presents. Manier sold the bar & sandwiches at the park outside. Henry was here all day harrowing, had lunches & dinner. Clara Wagner & Mamie Eichenseer got flowers slips here; we planted some more out to.

Friday, Sept. 27, 1935

We took our flowers in put them upstairs so far. Bert had to go to Renneckers [to] talk over telephone, ours didn’t work good but papa fixed it alright now. Angela Eichenseer invited us to her wedding dance on Oct. 16, everybody is welcome; to be at Kammler’s Hall. Clara Wagner got 1 doz. eggs 24¢. We got a card send a girl from Evansville got the Ford V-8 at the Dupo pinic [sic]. Went out to Henry’s, Leona 25 birthday, had cake & cookies, nobody else there; to bad weather & roads. Sparta Fair ends today & we didn’t get there.

Saturday, July 13, 1935

Papa went up & got Osie Neff to look at the place, were he wanted him to set the engine for threshing, he then went out to Henry’s; worked the mares, work fine, wagon, corn cultivator etc. had lunch out there. We went to Belleville & home by Millsdadt [sic], Waterloo & Red Bud, to see several parties on business. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, stopped a little while, & went to Praire [sic] Du Rocher to Jennette Ronnenberg’s & Fink wedding dance. We went to a free dance at Oak Grove, & nice crowd, Blossom City Boys playing. Oliver Pour has a new car chev.

Selling apples, 80¢ bu. a guy here, we didn’t take none. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, finished lawning there place. John Reheis is threshing now. Aunt Mary got a card from Jennette Ronnenberg to come to her wedding dance Sat. nite at Praire [sic] Du Rocher don’t say to whom; she should tell Oscar & Larry, A. Rittmeyers, & us.

Leona brought the boy’s up, they went to St. Louis to get permanents, Annie went along to. Awful cold again. Rain a little this morn. We went to Waterloo to Pautler’s Wedding dance of Red Mueller & Heller what a crowd. Pals of Harmony furnished musci [sic] didn’t start till 9 o’clock. The bride wore lace green dress & silver slippers, & bouquet pinned on, the bridesmaid wore blue crepe; the groom is driver for the Farm Bureau Service Co. Raining all night, it was awful; still everybody went.

Sunday, April 28, 1935

Went to Red Bud; they made $80. clear at the card party Tues. nite. We went out to Uncle Fred’s for dinner & supper. Mr. John & Sam Krehrer, were also there, looked at implements etc. We went to Pautler at Waterloo tonite, free double birthday dance, musci [sic] by Cowboy’s, nice crowd, there was a wedding dance at Dreamland, Mueller & Shewer Jr. It rained nearly all evening. Ed Fahey said Martin May turned his car over last night at Vanburen’s, 5 in the car, went to Waterloo to get Rose, & going home, car came out Vanburens lane, & collision, May’s car is a total wreck, took Martin to the doctor, man from Renault was driving, Rose has scratches & bruised a little; that is the third car he wrecked in a short time. Mr. Robert Probst is having a dance at Manier’s tonite, musci [sic] by Vogel Bros. Adm. 25¢.
