Henry & Rob. Grover making hay, had dinner here. Mrs. C. Guebert has sale & Hubers have a sale this afternoon; nice day. Mary Mathews has birthday dance at Kammlers tonite, Ed. Mueth has one at New Athens, Brun’s boys, playing One at Log Cabin, by Red Bud Webers Orch. Lipperts has barn dance. Mrs. L. Sauer has Pautlers, Rythmn [sic] Kings. Och; so many tonite. It is Gertie Cortner’s birthday today. We went Mary’s dance here nice crowd, good time. Henry broke the axle on his wagon by Geo. Parkers going home with load hay, took 2 loads home.

Nice rain last nite; makes things grow, we worked the garden all through. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & pap went with them to Emlings sale by Burksville, May sale cryer; tools & 5 rooms furniture. Washed our hair, got real nice again. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here, then pap & him went back to Emlings again & got mule & horse that pap bought, bought all kind junk, Uncle got rocking chair, pap walked home with the team, 11 o’clock when he got here, we listed to the radio & stayed up till they came home again, had a big & good sale. The sow had 1 pig today & 1 dead.

Pap went out & helped Henry bring his mares up; brought 1 along to leave here, so he could plow a few patches. Pap went to Dr. A. Wagner’s sale this afternoon, selling all things. Congratulations was heard on the radio, german band for Arthur Mehrmann by sisters & brothers of Floraville, & for Mary Wagner of Belleville by Bernice, Charles & Melvin Wagner of Hecker. Sam Mosio has a free dance & fish fry, tonite music by Webers Bros. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here, he is hauling rock again & she stayed here. Mamie Eichenseer came down awhile. Manier has fish fry.

Henry came this afternoon, Rose went along in to Belleville to stay over nite, they have to leave Floyd in there a couple of days, took 1 finger of [sic – off], & sewed the others together; left hand. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he hauled rocks, she stayed here & went to Minnie also. Al. Cleveland got 82 lb. corn for seed. Pap went to Windell Rahn West of Red Bud to his sale; didn’t buy anything. Adam Braun’s have a 2 hand [ed – second hand] car chev, 1932, marron [sic].

Leap year. Papa went in the woods all day. Wagners got 1 lb. butter & cheese. Renncker, 1 lb. butter, 1 pt. cheese, Lauts ½ butter, 1 pt. cheese. Henry stopped in he got crushing done. Eggs dropped again 21¾¢ on radio. Beautiful day. There was a sale at Ruma, painted dishes, lot of furniture & license. Good radio nite.

Pap got crushing done, then went to Red Bud to see Burdgorf, but he wasn’t at home; he went to see Hartmann; Mr. J. Eshmann of Columbia, was here wanted to buy sow, also looked at the cow; Mr. Kunkelmann was here wanted to see dad. He went to Hellmers sale at Red Bud; bought 15¢, flower stand, bread board, sprinkle can; Mr. Faust was buried this afternoon at Red Bud, 8 cars passed by, wasn’t very large. Snowing tonite. Jimmie & Dick played at Stolbergs Lake tonite at Belleville.

Pap got crushing done; Henry & boy’s came up to. Pap, Steve Rennecker, Rob. Laut went to Pete Dehn’s sale, everything was high price, they said; Burdgorf was here looked at the cattle. Steve got 5¢ milk tonite. Joe Manier’s got fish fry tonite. Henry was saying, John Kern is in jail, scraping with Mosio; took our quilt out of the frame today. Rose & Berti name went over the radio today, but they didn’t say requested for Aunt Mary’s birthday, Jimmie & Dick played. Mexican Trail; The German Band, played one for a lady at Evansville this afternoon; Sure got good program tonite from Dismoinies [sic – Des Moines] Iowa; lot of good riddles & jokes.

Papa got hair cut; he went up to the crusher to see Roy Staufbiel. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, brought basket pickles along, they went to Red Bud to the sale of the late Mrs. Con Dehn. Bert went to town got 25¢ for eggs. The Dupo pinic [sic] which was supposed to be today is posponed [sic] till Thurs; we have chance on winning a Ford V8 there. Leona came up & Billy [Willis]. We & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Donahue’s to Herman Wolf’s wife’s birthday dance & may what a crown, Au Buchon’s family Orchestra.

Papa went out to Henry’s. Clarence Wittenauer’s milk truck struck Henry’s colt & knocked it in the air, is awful bad, has a big hole in shoulder; Wittenauer has insurance, & he got the veterain [sic – veterinarian] out; & bandaged it up a little. Pretty serious they say. Henry, Dick, Grover, Emil, all up making hay had dinner, 2 loads here & took 1 load home; today & last nite; he broke the wheel of, so this morning he went up to get Emil’s wagon & had the colt loose & sure it had to get hit. Casper Horschmann has sale on the Barney Kaiser farm this afternoon. Al. May auctioneer. Ivo Buehler is moving Louis Voges from Sethfest farm to Cowell place in blackjacks, from which Esthers [Estkers?] moved to the bottoms, Aaron Papbenberg moved them. Freeburg Homecoming today. Donahues has a free dance tonite. Blossom City Boys playing. We went out to Henry’s to see the colt, it eats, but still lies down.
