Washed, ironed; canning peaches, tomatoes. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, he helped put up stands for pinic [sic]. German band played for John Myerscough, Daougertys. Elvira Haudrich have a baby born two weeks ago, twins were just yr old Sat.; now have 5 children. Rained this eve. little shower. Emil takes care of Ben Heyls stock & Peffers are living in house till Ben Heyls get back, are visiting Ed Brand in Alabama. Nearly all threshing machines finished today & pulled in sheds, Bruns is still out yet. Frischkorn & Schillings Klotz’s finished.

Wednesday, Nov. 2, 1938

All Souls Day. Went to Red Bud had no mass till 8 o clock; went down for 6 was none, so went to Waterloo – high mass. Stopped at Henry’s & Shields. Geo. Schilling going to saw wood tomorrow for us. Shields is also going to help. Went to Leo’s this afternoon he is going to help & Uncle Fred. They are helping down at Chri. Buehlers today, papering I guess. etc. Henry Bruins have a baby girl born Sun. morn. Uncle & Aunt stopped in.

Thursday, Nov. 26, 1936

Snow this morn. & all day, colder; not a very nice day. The turkey dinner went pretty good sold 450 tickets & turkey was about all, had 50; sold everything in fancy work & bazzaar [sic]. We were quilting all day, had chicken dinner. Today is the weddings all over, at Tipton Eugene Fahey & Lucille McCarthey, Joe Lynle & Ethel May, & Fauter & Kahner, all in mass at 9:30; Fahey & May gave wedding dance at Donahue’s, very large crowd. Jack Ganley & Helen McCarthy best; Rose May & guy for her sister. Miss Josie Keller & Kuhn stopped awhile; were out for turkey supper. We went to Ralph Weigand’s & Luella Bruns wedding dance at Kammlers hall, nice crowd, but cold. A. Buchons’s furnished musci [sic], marched around the cake, & danced; Hy Brun’s & cousin best, sure received many presents; the bride all wore white with veils. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came to.

Saturday, May 23, 1936

Henry & Rob. Grover making hay, had dinner here. Mrs. C. Guebert has sale & Hubers have a sale this afternoon; nice day. Mary Mathews has birthday dance at Kammlers tonite, Ed. Mueth has one at New Athens, Brun’s boys, playing One at Log Cabin, by Red Bud Webers Orch. Lipperts has barn dance. Mrs. L. Sauer has Pautlers, Rythmn [sic] Kings. Och; so many tonite. It is Gertie Cortner’s birthday today. We went Mary’s dance here nice crowd, good time. Henry broke the axle on his wagon by Geo. Parkers going home with load hay, took 2 loads home.

Beautiful day, warm, no rain not so far. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped after church awhile. Mr. Geo Siefert of Red Bud died Fri, will be buried tomorrow morn. 9 o’clock mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Mrs. Amanda Reheis & Josie Keller all stopped in, then went to the play, they were visiting Uncle this afternoon, the play was good “Bertie Cave Man,” was the name, players were Rallin & Clarence, Lyle, Vernice, Marjorie Rausch, Floyd Thompson, Hard Wagner, Alsace Eckert; use after the play musci [sic] by Wild Cat String Busters,” that Brun’s boys, Lav. Mueth & Lyle Rausch & boy was it a crowd; Adm 35¢. Arlene Klotz is getting along well.

Monday, July 22, 1935

We washed, ironed, rain all afternoon, no threshing. Hy. Bruns was here, papa paid him $1.90 for hauling clover seed 19 sacks @10¢. Ed & Emery Kreher & Jake Neff was here. Emery is looking for a horse; he just lost one. Berti took the yeast over to Wagner’s & she gave us cucumbers to eat; to make salad. Sure good. Eggs 19¢.

Sunday, March 18, 1934

Uncle Fred came a little while, then they went home. Rosa & Berti went to church, late mass, took Helfrich’s kids along. Papa stayed home, has a very bad cough. Mr. Laurent’s of Prairie Du Rocher came & looked at our heifers but wouldn’t pay that much for them. It rained last night & turned to snow; the paper said for to be 18 degrees; one day hot, next cold again, some weather, lot of people got cabbage plants set out. They say Lester Brun’s is going to build a house on the lot ¾ acre from Levi Gregson, what he bought, pretty far of the hard road, where there is a well there already, he will built 28 x 32, Levi told Uncle Fred. Today is passion Sun, had Holy Hour after mass this morn.

Saturday, June 24, 1933

Papa got crushing done this morn. Osie Neff was telling him that Bruns are all sick but one, got tyhoid [sic – thyphoid] fever. Roy Gregson of Red Bud had his machine stolen. George Schilling is going to start in threshing Mon, if it don’t rain. There is a big street dance in Chester, Ill. tonite. Miss Frances Schilling is taking her habit today & in two years [words crossed out]; Odillo Eichenseer has to take Mr. & Mrs. Joe Schilling there going to leave today. Misses Martha Schilling & Helen Kectriz left yesterday also for Indiana to take in the performance. Fr. Aydt, is going today to, to be there for tomorrow, & then go to the Worlds Fair; George Wagner & family came over this evening. A lady got 5 doz. eggs 8½¢ & selling fruit jars & bonnets.
