Washed, ironed; canning peaches, tomatoes. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, he helped put up stands for pinic [sic]. German band played for John Myerscough, Daougertys. Elvira Haudrich have a baby born two weeks ago, twins were just yr old Sat.; now have 5 children. Rained this eve. little shower. Emil takes care of Ben Heyls stock & Peffers are living in house till Ben Heyls get back, are visiting Ed Brand in Alabama. Nearly all threshing machines finished today & pulled in sheds, Bruns is still out yet. Frischkorn & Schillings Klotz’s finished.

Friday, Aug. 4, 1939

Canned tomatoes. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, she helped wash dishes & clean for pinic [sic] to be next Wed. 9. Threshing machines all started again this afternoon, after all rain. Chas Shad daughter of Columbia bottoms Vernet & Walter Pieper of Merimac were married at Columbia on July 29. had a dance at New Hanover. Mr & Mrs Joe Mauer are celebrating there 24 Silver Wedd. Ann. today, mass this morn. at 9. & dance at Mid Way Inn tonite; they are now living in Red Bud; paper says Misses Alfreda & Mary Wittenauer are spending vacation in Michigan.

Saturday, July 22, 1939

Cloudy, & thunder this morn. again, no threshing today again. Wittenauer stopped. Belleville has homecoming, yesterday & today. Started in threshing here this afternoon at 2 o’clock; plenty wet, Klotz’s machine is also threshing; all worked pretty late. Emil came over.

Thursday, June 29, 1933

Papa is working corn, they brought the mule home last nite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, had lunch here, he helped papa fix straw stack. Bertille helped them take out some of there onions. eggs are 10¢ today, wheat 83¢ Red Bud. Klotz’s threshing machine started out today, this afternoon. Schilling started couple days ago, thereshing [sic] at Schillings today & tomorrow by Buehler’s. Miss Klinberg of Maeystown spent a few day with Lauts.
