Papa got crushing done. We finished the quilt & took it out of the frame. Mrs. Joe Watchel & boy where here this afternoon, & invited us to go to Angela’s Eichenseer’s this evening, she is 18 yrs. old today. Rosalia & Bertille went, stopped in at Watchel & till she was ready then by Laut’s, Olivia & boys went too, & Clarence Wittenauer & Cecil Pour where the only ones at the party, we played 6 hand pinochle, hamburger sandwiches, & pickles, & cake, where served, we gave her a towel & Clarence brought here a Ivory compact, that is all she got then. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where at Rod & Gun Club House at a dance, public, Cortner’s invited him to help furnish musci [sic].

Lincoln’s birthday. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile, they told us to come out there for dinner, so we went out, chicken dinner & supper. We heard the 11 o clock mass over the radio; & some popular tunes from 1926 etc. Willie Heyl’s boy of Waterloo, got killed some time last night, by a train, he was 12 yrs. old. The Ladies Aid are giving a euchre, pinochle & lotto party in Kammler’s Hall tonite. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie’s & then we went to the euchre, Bertille was the only one of us that got a prize, 9 point got a pair pillowcases. Rosalia had 6. Mamie 8. Uncle Fred 7 & Aunt Mary 8, but they didn’t have no more prize.
Saturday, Feb. 4, 1933
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here awhile before the funeral of Mr. Joe Mueth 75 yrs. old; it was a very large one, but it snowed a little & got awful cold, after church the sun was shining. Fr. Aydt had a very nice sermon again today. Henry & Leona where at church, & from there went to Belleville. We all went out to the cemetery. Papa went to Hecker this afternoon, we baked cream pie. Frank Dudenhoeffer & Lizzie didn’t come up for the funeral, & with Rosa & her boy, they went along home with Lizzie to Oklahoma. We all & Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker went over to George Wagner’s & played pinochle, papa had 1540 trump in hearts & didn’t see it, & his partner Clara at the same time had 300 pinochle, too bad wasn’t it, I Say, beer & cake & doughnuts where served, to the visitors. Rosalia got 1 gal. milk.

We went to Red Bud. Mr. Raffle the cigar factory man died & will be buried tomorrow morning 9:30 mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came over after dinner, & Mr. & Mrs. Frank Dudenhoeffer were here awhile, for supper. They came out with Magaret [sic – Margaret] & her husband, they went to Maniers. they was here about 2 hrs, Magraret called up & so they left 5:30. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed & played 2 games pinochle.
Saturday, Jan. 21, 1933
We all went to church, to Mrs. Mueth’s funeral; & rain some thing awful it just poured down; make it awful bad. Papa & Rosalia went along to the cemetery. The church was packed, some standing. The pall bearers where, Joe & George Schilling, Tom Haney [?], Wm. Ganley, Phil Braun, Geo. Parker. Fr. Adyt made a nice sermon; people where here from St. Louis, Waterloo, Smithon [sic], Red Bud & from all over. We went to Joe Wacthel’s this eve, played 5 hand pinochle, 4 games; & raining & dark. Papa went to the annual telephone meeting at Griffin, this afternoon, they came down a 25 on quaterely [sic] dues, it is now 75¢ every 3 mons. the drop tax is still the same $4.00 a yr. Papa had a talk with Al. Geodelle. They say the roads are pretty good for all the rain we had.

We went to Jac. Brandt funeral it was largely attended. Papa went to Waterloo this afternoon he got a book from the Times printing office, for agriculture – it is for farmers. Christ Buehler’s are having corn shocking frolic & butchering. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped. Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker & George Wagner’s family where all here this evening, playing cards, Bertille had 1500 trump in Clubs & partner 300 pinochle. Harold Wagner’s birthday is today. Henry & Leona went to Belleville & left the kids here this afternoon. 3 little pigs born.
Monday, Jan. 9, 1933
We butchered 2 hogs today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry where helping, had lunch & dinner. Uncle Fred stayed for supper then we played 5 hand pinochle. Mr. Tecklenburg paid 28¢ for eggs we had 7½ doz; he got some from Mrs. Rennecker too. Mrs. Papenberg called up this evening for a patter for a sunburst quilt, we didn’t have none.
Monday, Dec. 19, 1932
We butchered 2 hogs, Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & Emil helped, they where here for lunch & dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for supper & then played 5 hand pinochle, 3 games. Henry Meir came here wanted to sell corn, papa bought a wagon load for 17¢ bu. he is going to bring it the first day. There was a lady around selling vanilla’s, & other remedies. Aunt Mary bought a bottle of corn salve, is to take it out in 5 days for 25¢.

It started sleeting, it was awful bad driving the windshield always froze up & we couldn’t see, had to clean it of [sic – off] 5 times coming home from Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner we had chicken, we played 5 hand pinochle about 3 games then they went home. Dan Geodelle & his family called in this morn, looking for Henry, he wasn’t home they where at Waterloo, she called in so they are going to visit them tonite. Dan wanted to speak with Henry about pigs. Art Schaefer & a gang, Papenberg, Parker’s, went down the road with the sleigh & bells ringing this afternoon for a ride, they sure went some. We went to Robert Laut’s this evening. Joe Watchel’s family & Mr. & Mrs. Karl Boll where also there, the ladies plaed 5 hand pinochle & the men played solo. popcorn & wine where served, came home about 11 o’clock.
