Jo Kellers birthday. Cloudy & raining. Mr. Ed Rickers farm census taker was here this afternoon; Mamie Eichenseer, came to have her hair curled, euchre tonite. Rose & Bertie went to the euchre of the B.V.M. Sodality of Hecker parish. Bertie had 8 points, got dresser scarf. Miss Viola Purtle of Red Bud won the pillow slip attendance prize; large crowd, tables filled. Miss Doris Breautigam, of Belleville & Traveberger where married at Carlye on Jan 30, kept secret; daughter of one [? – unclear] Clara Birkner.

Thanksgiving Day. Rose & Berti went to mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped awhile, then went up to help at the Turkey Dinner at the School; all day affair, lotto this afternoon. Eugene Bruns stopped on business. We made ribs & dressing, pumpkin pie, cranberry relish. Leona & Billy came up to meet Miss Klube on the bus this morning, she is visiting out here today. Mr. Roy Pautler & Miss Lavina Goedelle were married at the Red Bud Catholic parsonage this afternoon, Friedrich of Colombia & Winehof of Waterloo married this morning, we went to Wedding dance at Pautlers musci [sic] from Dupo. Jaegher & Minneman wedding couple also attended the dance, were married at priest house. Uncle Fred came down a little while, said there was a nice crowd at the turkey & Lotto this afternoon. It rained again this evening.

We took sausage etc. to Waterloo, sold some this morning; prices from 15 to 20¢ lb., on different things. We washed, sugar cured hams, this afternoon, nasty rainy day & Boy! rain tonite & colder I guess. Man here taking up senses [sic – census] of children that is of school age, none here. The big wedding of Anna Marie Parker, oldest daughter of Ed L. Parker, most prominet [sic] chicken raiser & trustee of church, & dairy famer near of Hecker, & Mr. Clyde William Pautler of Evansville, oldest son of Phil Pautler, dairy man, he drives Pevely Dairy truck to St. Louis, were married at 9 o’clock, nuptial high mass, by Fr. Aydt, Harbaugh & Schumacher, as cousins & Fr. Tecklenburg of Evansville; bride dressed in white with veil, marched in on bride’s fathers arm, carring [sic] roses. Mr. Paul Parker as groomsmen & Miss Dorthy Pautler bridesmaid dressed with nile green crepe, & Miss Agnes Parker, matron of honor, in pink, all carrying flowers. Mr. Donald Parker, ring beared & Alice Schumacher flower girl; wedding dance in Daabs Club House to written invited guests; Mrs. Ed Schneider & Mrs. Robert Laut, cooks.

It rained nearly all day, getting colder. We went to the dentist, Rose got another pulled; & Boy! was it one. Mr. Adam Eishenauer, now of Belleville died yesterday afternoon, he formerly lived in Hecker, was trustee for several years. Miss Katie Koerber youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Louis Koerber of Prairie Du Long, celebrated her 22 yr. birthday at her home Sun, & the engagement was also announced to Mr. John Weber, second oldest son of Willie Weber, the marriage to take place next June; the paper says.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in a while; after church. Mr. Clyde Pautler of Evansville & Miss Ann Marie Parker were published first time today. Henry & family came, took us along, went over to St. Louis to Frank Dudenhoefers, got there about 4:30, had supper, & Oh Boy! was it good; played pinochle & bunco in the evening, left about 8:30 for home. Mr. & Mrs. Lester Hoeffner & Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Rohrass Gusta’ nephew; & Bill Dudenhoefer were all there. Gusta broke her right arm, some time ago, she fell. We went the old St. Louis Road Route 13, surely a nice drive; & enjoyed it immensley.

We cleaned. Emett Cowell is selling out to the 4 bare walls at Red Bud clothing store, is going to move next door south & a filling station will be erected at the corner, where he has his store. Dr. Matt J. Crowe & Marie Eberhardt of St. Louis where married last Thurs. Oct. 18 at the Nativity Catholic Church, Harney & Oriole Ave. Mr. Crowe has been doctor for several years. Office is located at 5738 W. Florissant Ave. The bride is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Chas Eberhardt. Mr. Tom Crowe & family of Waterloo attended the wedding. The bridal couple left by plane on a honeymoon trip; about 2 weeks. We went to Renneckers tonite, had 4 hand pinochle.

We cleaned, baked. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon. Henry brought a load corn, took radishes & pumpkins along home. Mr. Schwagel & bride, picture was in yesterday paper. E. Wagner was around selling apples $1.25 bu. we didn’t take any. Baked a cake for Red Bud Catholic Church Supper & card party tomorrow night; also going to give pck. potatoes, 1 doz. eggs, 2 chickens, box sweet potatoes for euchre prize.

Papa got crushing done. We went to Belleville this afternoon got bu. apples at Schmisseur’s Store for $1.00. It rained a little this morning. Mr. Hugo Schwagel of Smithon [sic], storeman & Miss Edna Southoff of Millsdat [sic] were united in marriage at New Baden at 7 o clock by Fr. Wallers this morning; surprize [sic] to there many friends. Mr. Henry Weigand is in the Hospital at Belleville, operated on Thurs. morning for appendix, is getting along well. Mr. Willie Matzenbacher’s called there baby boy Werner & Osie Matzenbacher called there Harold.

We were at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. The girl that Fr. Stern raised was married to Johnson on Labor Day at Red Bud, last Thurs. noon she looked in the mirror & shot herself in the head, died 5 o clock; she was cashier in Packing House in St. Louis, were she will also be buried over there. Mrs. George Gregson who was taken to Red Bud hospital last week was operated on for appendix, & will be removed to her home tomorrow. Josie Kaiser is keeping house. We drove to New Athens, Lenzburg; Happy Hollows: to see Mr. Hamill, he wanted to buy binder or trade on a cow. Steve came here when we got home, told us Chas. Kern & son of Columbia was here looking at drill & binder. Seen some beautiful country by Lenzburg.

Patched cut lawn, made cookies. Mrs. Rennecker came over got flower slips, we got some from her too also a fern stock. Rain last night, this afternoon again. Edwin Wachtel’s sister Mrs. Kate Head in now living with him, moved her things out last Sat. Elva Knapp oldest daughter of Henry Knapp & Kloft of St. Louis, were married Sun. evening at the Waterloo Evangical [sic] Church, at 7, o clock, her sister & Miss Edna Goedell a friend were bridesmaids the groomsmen were from St Louis. The bride & her maids were all dressed with back velvet dresses & white gloves.
