Thursday, Nov. 17, 1938

Geo. Wagner’s butchering today came to get there hog, Hy Armstutz truck, & also J. Kammler, weighed 280 lbs. Got the check from Strecks, one weighed 305 lbs. & 7.40 & 340 lbs. .07. Pap went out on trip this afternoon, took scales back out to Henry’s, he is going to kill a beef this evening. Went to Herman Kettler’s this morn. bought mare from him for $10.00; pap walked home & Bert [Bertille] went to Orlets awhile. Ms. Crocker came got 2 bus. potatoes 50 [cents] bu. Raining this eve.

Tuesday, November 1, 1938

Went to 6 ‘ o clock mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up awhile, went home to go to Belleville. Bill [Klein] came this afternoon & took Bert [Bertille] along to Paderborn church, services & procession out to cemetery. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were down this eve.; played cards. Republican Speaking at Kammler’s tonite. J. Schmidt speaker. Nobody of here went.

Wednesday, Oct. 26, 1938

Cleaned garden. Went to Leo’s this afternoon helped put up stove, then went to Smithton. There is a Democratic meeting at Kammlers Hall tonite; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up for the Halloween party in School Hall given by Young People of parish, he had to bring his accordion along & also Irene Buehler had to bring hers. There is also a euchre at Paderborn, all in one nite. Ray Braun is in St. Louis Hospital, had a rock in the pupil of his eye, is very dangerous operation, but they got it out but he can sees alright, only pupil isn’t round.

Monday, Sept. 19, 1938

Bert [Bertille] washed ironed. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up all day, he worked across street, had beef soup dinner they brought here, had dinner & supper. Celestine Neff was here selling chances on bedspread, donations to go for recovering aisle for centennial mass, which will be in Nov. 11. Pap went to meeting at Kammler’s hall; about the farm plans again. Mrs. Bill Gallagher died this morn. is at Kochs parlor, she was ill for about week; will be buried Wed. morn at Red Bud. Leo & family & Henry & family were here this eve. Radio say frost tonite..

Sunday, Sept. 18, 1938

Went to mass. Cool today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile. AuBuchon & Purtle were published at Red Bud for 1st time this morn. Floraville has pinic [sic] & Home Coming today & chicken dinner & supper, the church. Belleville street fair which was to be last nite is posponed [sic] till today & nite; on account of rain last nite. Hubbard came back again today, wanted to see mule; but was to late didn’t go to Henry’s, coming again some time later to see it. Clem Parker & Lar. Kaiser giving birthday dance at Kammler’s tonite. Adm. 25 [cents]. Happy Ramblers playing, nice crowd. Bill & Bert [Bertille] went to Floraville pinic [sic], they had open air dance. Schmidt’s playing, to cold for pinic; crowd was pretty fair in afternoon, but not as good in evening to cold. Greg Neff’s had their baby girl christened at Paderborn this afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Karban sponsor, called it Dorothy.

Thursday, Sept. 15, 1938

Uncle Fred walked up & got wagon & team, going to haul wood today, from the woods to his house. Bert [Bertille] started house cleaning west room upstairs, nice cool 59 [degrees] this morn on radio. Wittenauers have harrowing, everybody busy in fields now. Hall’s big circus in town tonite, on Werner Kammlers lots; have elephant, mule, 2 horses, camel, dog, monkey; seen them all when they unloaded, didn’t go to circus. Adm. 20. Emil went said it was pretty good, didn’t last very long; had no musci [sic], at all.

Sunday, Aug. 28, 1938

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to Columbia Homecoming this afternoon. The baseball players having a dance at Kammler’s Hall. musci [sic] by Schmidts, featuring “Susie Gal Hills” in person & what a crowd, she sang several songs, couldn’t hardly hear her sing. Totsch’s had free dance, but was nothing Vogel Bros. Och.

Thursday, July 28, 1938

Had spring chicken dinner. Henry came this afternoon went to meeting at Kammler’s again this afternoon. Was at Waterloo this morn. got his check $152. & brought paps along $21.75. 1937 Agr. Conservation check. Henry does pretty good by signing up. We went to Smithton to bank; went to Rennkers awhile this eve.

Rain & a beautiful rain all morn. sure needed. Bill [Klein] came this afternoon had supper, we went to Raulair’s [unclear – could be Karban] & then went to Belleville to see Snow White & 7 Dwarfs surly good picture. Base ball have in Kammlers hall tonite; music by 4 Happy Ramblers. Totsch’s had free dance but no crowd closed up at 10. Schoenborn playing.

Sunday, May 8, 1938

Mother’s Day. We went to Paderborn mass, then to Leo’s, doctor Eckert was there, since 6 last nite; at 11:30 took her [Rosalia] in an ambulance Dashner’s, to Red Bud hospital were Doc. Pautler brought a baby girl, 8 lbs. & 6 oz. nice big girl, bright, dark eyes, dark hair. Leo & Leona & pap went along down. Henry & boy’s came here had dinner, we went down this afternoon. Leo stayed all nite; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came here. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to Paderborn May devotion at church. It is also Josie Gregson’s birthday today. KMOX Radio Stars having a dance here at Kammlers tonite.
