We picked beans for the first time this year, for dinner. Henry & family for here for dinner & lunch, he cut wheat till about 3:30 & started to get black & real windy, it looked awful, had a little rain. Bert Thompson gave us an invitation for a birthday dance in Weber’s barn, it is Mr. Weber’s birthday, but it turned out to be a bad night, rain; so we didn’t go. George Wagner came over here a little while this evening.

Papa birthday 54. Also Mamie Mueth 18. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this morning brought 2 piegons [sic- pigeons], & we made a chicken yet all soup for dinner. The boys where here all afternoon for supper, while the rest went to the funeral. Henry & Leona came back this evening. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Bertille, went out to Frank Birkner;s, she got 1 lb. butter from her 18¢, then we came back to Hecker again, had ½ gal. ice cream & cake, beer. Tonite is a play & dance at Paderborn. Mrs. Louise Birkner was over to see Aunt Mary this afternoon, & also Janita Ronenberg, she is by Robert Lauts here.

There where 4 girls & 7 boys made their Solemn Coummioun [sic – Communion] at Red Bud this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner. They went out to Buehler’s this afternoon, Linus Birthday. Robert Launts had a farewell party this evening. We weren’t invited to come. Henry & Leona & Geodell’s family came up this evening, the boys stayed here & rest went over to New Athens to Val. Klube’s, his wife died this morn. but they didn’t get to see her anyway, she was at the unterdating [sic- undertaking] parlor yet. The funeral is Tuesday, Henry is pallbearer. Harry Kammler’s has a dance tonite. Peter Bros. outfit playing

It is white frost & pretty cold this morning. We cooked a kettle of soap this morning. The people from Collinsville that wanted to buy timber stopped in again, papa went along to the woods with them, but didn’t sell anything. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary worked around there place up here, cut lawn & such like. The Hecker baseball club, All Stars are giving a dance in Fred Weber’s barn tonite, Rheinharts playing. Fredrick Fristche was here & got 2 settings eggs 35¢. Ray Schmidt the tinner of Waterloo was around advertising stoves. In the evening paper, it say Chas. Dalkert, editor & publisher of the Waterloo Times died & will be buried Fri afternoon, he was 68 yrs. old, suffering from an heart attack. The sons will keep up the business as usual. Mrs. Friewelier, Anna Faust mother died & will be buried Thurs. afternoon at Waterloo. Henry & family & Ralph Collier where here this evening.

We washed, ironed, patched. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, he helped papa to haul hay back too the straw shed for the colts, then Uncle Fred started working on his sewer & papa helped him all day, they put, 2 oil barrels in the ground. We all had dinner, lunch & supper, over there. Hy Armstutz helped a little too. This evening was telephone meeting at Mrs. Stauenfbiel’s, papa sent his dues along with Steve, he also bought our telephone Directory book, along, they have them all published now. The Myers Printing Co. of Belleville did it, they have, Hecker, Prairie, Red Bud, Waterloo, Columbia, Dupo, Valmeyer, Floraville in it, awful nice our no is 2 l 18. Henry & family came up this evening, he went to the Dairy meeting at the new school hall. Jonny Reheis in Hecker, our accesor [sic] was around today. Rosalia, Aunt Mary where at Hill’s got prune trees 2 for each one.

Papa went out to Henry’s to help him again today, there for dinner. It started to rain this morning, but after the sun came out nice. Osie Matzenbacher & Rosie Meuth are being married today. It rained again nearly all afternoon got colder towards night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, then we all went to the Wedding dance at Oak Grove, this eve. had a good time. Elmer Matzenbacher & Mamie Mueth where best, but Emil Goedelle danced the waltz with Mamie, because Elmer couldn’t. Rosie was dressed with a pale blue or greenish like lace dress with blue velvet coat, short one. gold band around the head, & black pumps. Mamie had light blue crepe, with ruffles & black slippers, it was pretty. The Hickory Hollow Billies furnished the musci [sic]. [They] got married in the parsonage of Evangical [sic] church. He 24 & she 19. She got quite a few presents. Henry & Leona left the kids here this eve, then went down to Red Bud to the dentist, she had a bad toothache from the one he pulled out for her last time.

Easter. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed with the boy’s while we went to church. They & Henry & Leona where all here for dinner & supper. The rabbit laid so many eggs. It looked cloudy this morning, but later the sun came out & made it a real nice Easter. We went over to Rennecker’s, this evening, played pinochle. Bertille held 1500 diamonds & won 3 games out of 5. Wagner’s where at Bill Fristche, her & Mrs. Chas. Wagner went together & had a big celebration for all the children that got confirmed, & minister, & all the relation, & childrens parents.

Henry & Leona went to Red Bud dentist, & left the kids here, they stayed all day & nite. Henry & Leona went to Waterloo this afternoon to church. A man here wanted to clean cisterns, Harry Wittenauer was here & brought us a picture of Fr. Grootens, his silver jubillee [sic] will be next Thursday. Floyd burned his hand here this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this evening, to stay at there place over nite again so he can take care of the boys tomorrow morning. From here they went to Christ Buehlers, the baby girl is sick, next thing to pneoumia [sic].

We went to Red Bud to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here, they had dinner over at there house, & supper here & also Henry’s family where here for dinner & supper. The rabbit laid 4 eggs for the boys, they had lots of fun. There where 2 ladies here bought 4 doz. eggs @ 15¢ doz. This evening after we had supper, Aunt Mary, Rosalia & Bertille went up to Lester Gregson’s & got a dress pattern from here, for Bertille size 34 just fits fine. Aunt Mary went to church, & we played 4 handed pinochle, 2 games & then 1.5 handed when she came back, we had a light lunch, they went home in Hecker stayed all night.
