There was a man here wanted to sell crockery. Papa went out to help Henry, & Ettlings set posts for the line fence. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where working up here all day, planted potatoes. Bertille was on sick list with cold & toothache. Rosalia planted the daliahs & flowers out today. Eggs are still 9ยข. Tomorrow Mrs. Ed. Fristche, daughter of Huber’s died & will be buried at Walnut Hill cemetery, he died 7 years ago Apr. 3, 1925. She leaves 4 children, oldest now Fern 17 yrs. old, now the wife of Ham. Bitters Belleville.

Sunday, April 3, 1932

Went to Red Bud. Church in Hecker, this morning is 9 & 11 o clock, because he [Fr. Grootens?] couldn’t be home, he was gone some place. In Waterloo the children are making there solemn communion. Joe Gregson & Lester & Lee & Rob where here looked at the colts, but it was to much money for him. We went out Uncle Freds, for dinner & supper. Henry came there too awhile, he had been up at Floraville to see Kerculeis, he bought his pigs from Henry & a heifer, $15 & pigs $3.00 apiece. Maryben Pickett & family came there too & wanted to rent there house in Hecker, but he won’t rent it out. Mrs. George Wagner called up & said we should come over there for a game of cards, so we & Rennecker’s, Bill Fristche’s, & Autheo [?] Mehrmann where there. Bertille got toothache. Mrs. Wagner was lucky to have 1500 trump.

Wednesday, March 30, 1932

Papa went out to Henry’s to help him again today, there for dinner. It started to rain this morning, but after the sun came out nice. Osie Matzenbacher & Rosie Meuth are being married today. It rained again nearly all afternoon got colder towards night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, then we all went to the Wedding dance at Oak Grove, this eve. had a good time. Elmer Matzenbacher & Mamie Mueth where best, but Emil Goedelle danced the waltz with Mamie, because Elmer couldn’t. Rosie was dressed with a pale blue or greenish like lace dress with blue velvet coat, short one. gold band around the head, & black pumps. Mamie had light blue crepe, with ruffles & black slippers, it was pretty. The Hickory Hollow Billies furnished the musci [sic]. [They] got married in the parsonage of Evangical [sic] church. He 24 & she 19. She got quite a few presents. Henry & Leona left the kids here this eve, then went down to Red Bud to the dentist, she had a bad toothache from the one he pulled out for her last time.
