Sunday, Jan. 28, 1934

Went to Red Bud, took Helfrich’s along. We gave Miss Siebold a glass plate for euchre prize; for Tues. evening. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came; & Josie Keller awhile, then she left went to Ben Heyl’s, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went across the street & had dinner, then came over in the afternoon. Aunt Mary, Rose & Bert went to Mrs. Stauenfbiel & Zita’s & got 2 dress patterns, then we went up to Lizzie Boll’s awhile ordered cooked cheese from Talbots on the Floraville line, 5 lbs. Josie wants to take 3 with here, & we take 1 lb. & Aunt Mary 1 lb. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here. It is awful windy, & cold, freezing right along. Yesterday we could go out side with out a coat, & today just opposite.

Sunday, May 28, 1933

We went to Red Bud, & to Ratz’s looked at a horse. Henry & family where up for dinner, & supper. Papa, Henry & boys went to Prairie Du Rocher to looked at horse & colt. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went down to the bridge, & from there came here, had supper, then went home came back again & went to the play in St. Augustine’s Hall school children, gave one Adm. 35¢. We went over to Wagner’s awhile, Rob & Olive Laut came too. Ed Schilling & Mary Furnace where published for the first time in Red Bud, & Waterloo. Miss Frieda Keim, Pete Keim’s daughter & Oscar Jatho, ran of to Belleville & where married last Thurs. afternoon by the squire, he had been going to instructions. Hecker ball team played Floraville at Hecker & won 23 to 3 in favor of Hecker, they won every game so far this season.

Sunday, March 12, 1933

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner. Aunt Mary & Bert went to church this afternoon, Ed Moffitts where there to they where visiting Frank Kroll’s. Mr. Metzger & son from Floraville where here & bought one of four mules $65.00, he made a note on it, & will pay as soon as he gets his cash out of the banks when they open up.

Sunday, Sept. 18, 1932

We went over to Aunt Mary’s for chicken dinner. Mr. Hill came in the afternoon awhile, & put on some lectures. We had cake. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie awhile, Mrs. Eichenseer’s sister Mrs. Erle & her daughter where also there, we had lunch there. This evening we drove out to Uncle Adam’s & Emil & visited them awhile. Today is Homecoming at Floraville. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary talked about going. Mamie weighed us today Rosalia 173½ lb. Mamie 137 Miss Erle 137 & Bertille 131.

We went to Red Bud. We had lunch by Uncle Fred’s this afternoon. Last night Weber’s had a birthday dance in the barn & Joe Herzog’s have a floor dance tonite, Floraville floor, at there place. Mr. Cox the egg man didn’t come today, we had 36 doz. here.

Saturday, May 14, 1932

A man was here this morning wanted sharpen sisccors [sic – scissors] or knifes, we didn’t get anything done. Papa went to Kleber’s sale by Floraville this afternoon. Edmund Eckert is going to be brought home today from the hospital at Belleville the was way we heard. He is pretty good again, he was home sick. Papa bought a rake Hay for 25¢ & Vic Eichenseer got a binder for 50¢ at the sale. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to spent the weekend in town. We had supper over by them. Henry was up this afternoon, he got crushing done. George Schilling was here to see papa but he wasn’t home. Lindenberg’s baby was found last Thurs. the 12th, in the woods, dead & a bullet wound on its head, it was nearly all decayed already one arm & leg was gone, a negro found the bundle in woods wrapped the same clothes as when taken from the house Mar. 1.

Tuesday, April 5, 1932

We washed, ironed, patched. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, he helped papa to haul hay back too the straw shed for the colts, then Uncle Fred started working on his sewer & papa helped him all day, they put, 2 oil barrels in the ground. We all had dinner, lunch & supper, over there. Hy Armstutz helped a little too. This evening was telephone meeting at Mrs. Stauenfbiel’s, papa sent his dues along with Steve, he also bought our telephone Directory book, along, they have them all published now. The Myers Printing Co. of Belleville did it, they have, Hecker, Prairie, Red Bud, Waterloo, Columbia, Dupo, Valmeyer, Floraville in it, awful nice our no is 2 l 18. Henry & family came up this evening, he went to the Dairy meeting at the new school hall. Jonny Reheis in Hecker, our accesor [sic] was around today. Rosalia, Aunt Mary where at Hill’s got prune trees 2 for each one.

Sunday, April 3, 1932

Went to Red Bud. Church in Hecker, this morning is 9 & 11 o clock, because he [Fr. Grootens?] couldn’t be home, he was gone some place. In Waterloo the children are making there solemn communion. Joe Gregson & Lester & Lee & Rob where here looked at the colts, but it was to much money for him. We went out Uncle Freds, for dinner & supper. Henry came there too awhile, he had been up at Floraville to see Kerculeis, he bought his pigs from Henry & a heifer, $15 & pigs $3.00 apiece. Maryben Pickett & family came there too & wanted to rent there house in Hecker, but he won’t rent it out. Mrs. George Wagner called up & said we should come over there for a game of cards, so we & Rennecker’s, Bill Fristche’s, & Autheo [?] Mehrmann where there. Bertille got toothache. Mrs. Wagner was lucky to have 1500 trump.

Saturday, Sept. 26, 1931

Wm. Ganey was here & paid part interest $66.00 & still $59.00 due.  It turned cold awful sudden today.  The St. Augustine’s Church of Hecker, has pinic [sic] today, & Anhuser [sic] Busch from St. Louis is to be there with radio musci [sic] & donkeys.  Miss Laurena Mehrman & Orlando Skaer are getting married at Floraville this afternoon, an a dance tonight there.  We where all at Waterloo this afternoon & went to confession, we came through Red Bud home, stopped at J. Ducars, they have a team mules for sale.

Sunday, Sept. 20, 1931

We all went to Red Bud church.  The Hecker Priest read Ignatz Neff name off this morning, he signed the paper at Belleville, this week his kids can come back to school if they want too.  Osie Neff was here looking for Uncle Fred.  Today is homecoming at Floraville.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here & then about 4:30 left for the picnic.  Joe Hibbert the carpenter & his brother Frank & a cousin was here for a short visit.  He was visiting Hecker friends this afternoon.  This evening we drove out to Henry’s took them along & went to the basement floor dance at George Freund’s.  Adm. 30¢ as enter.  Rheinhardt & Skaer furnished musci [sic], 3 pieces.  Papa was up at the store awhile & he also stopped at George Wagner’s, she said that her sister Lorenia Merhmann & Orlindo Skaer are getting married next Sat. Sept 26 at Floraville.
