Tuesday, Aug. 15, 1939

Went to 6 o clock mass. Cooked catsup. Leo & family came, went to Burksville sale; such crowd. Chas. Mueth got bu. peaches. Leo & family stayed for supper. Bill [Klein] came from work, Bert [Bertille] went along home with him. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were also at sale. Emil was visiting at Henry’s, we took bu. peaches along out for them.

Sunday, Aug. 13, 1939

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile took some peaches along. Leo & family came for dinner. Bill [Klein] & Emil came this afternoon, had watermelon. The Ladies Aid having pinic [sic] at church hall, we went this eve. pap won cake cover & little dish playing bluey. New Athens band furnished musci [sic], pretty good & had nice crowd, large.

Saturday, Aug. 12, 1939

Raining showers on & off today, some pretty heavy ones; 3 houses were on fire in Waterloo this morn. electric wire, ran from one house to the other. Canning peaches so many fell of [sic] from wind. Pap went along with Emil out to Joe Schillings sale; things that Hess had bought on the other sale; Kettler has moved in there alreadys Hess lives on Uncle Adam’s place now; things went cheap at the sale. Ray Schmierbach & Luella Koerber are getting married in St. Louis today; dance tonite at Turners Hall in Smithton. Everybody welcome. Wagners left this afternoon, for supper. Hillsheim painted Wagners car blue & black; looks pretty good. Plenty rain for Wedding; Koerber boy & Verita Muhrmann & 2 from his side attendants; they had Favres V.8 Demonstrator, & Elmer Schmierbach turned it over, on slab near Smithton, car was damaged, but no one hurt.

Tuesday, Aug. 8, 1939

Washed, ironed; canning peaches, tomatoes. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, he helped put up stands for pinic [sic]. German band played for John Myerscough, Daougertys. Elvira Haudrich have a baby born two weeks ago, twins were just yr old Sat.; now have 5 children. Rained this eve. little shower. Emil takes care of Ben Heyls stock & Peffers are living in house till Ben Heyls get back, are visiting Ed Brand in Alabama. Nearly all threshing machines finished today & pulled in sheds, Bruns is still out yet. Frischkorn & Schillings Klotz’s finished.

Sunday, Aug. 6, 1939

Went to mass. Pap went over to Emils, Levi Gregson was there also this morn. Cloudy today. Firemens pinic [sic] in Red Bud last nite & today; parade at 1:30 today. Orville Schmidt & Lorreta Braun were published 1st. time at Red Bud & Hecker today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Bill [Klein] came, went to Red Bud Firemen’s pinic [sic] & parade at 1:30. Mrs Staufenbiel also went along she went to church. Had supper here had chicken today. Totsch’s have free dance.

Tuesday, August 1, 1939

Canned qt. tomatoes; baked cookies. Went to Red Bud took things down for pinic [sic], 2 chickens, cleaned & cut, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, cabbage, 1/2 doz. eggs, prize for bingo stand. Cloudy this eve. & little cooler. Eggs are 14 [cents]. Emil was over a little while this eve. Wheat 56 [cents].

Wednesday, July 26, 1939

Sun shining nice this morn; awful wind last nite. Henry came brought potatoes. Emil was over. Bert [Bertille] baked pie etc. send peaches along with Henry home. Leo & family came this eve; might thresh oats tomorrow. Wittenauers finished threshing here today 5 20 1/2 bu. from 23 acres; we got 174 bus. finished about 6:30 threshing.

Saturday, July 22, 1939

Cloudy, & thunder this morn. again, no threshing today again. Wittenauer stopped. Belleville has homecoming, yesterday & today. Started in threshing here this afternoon at 2 o’clock; plenty wet, Klotz’s machine is also threshing; all worked pretty late. Emil came over.

Monday, July 17, 1939

Washed, ironed, patched. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up. Ozie Neff car was hit by a car coming in back of him, both going same way crossing the creek at Blackburn School, Myrtle had a little scratch, she was in back seat. Harry Wittenauer was here to look at wheat, no threshing yet to wet. Raining & heavy thunder & lightening this evening. Leo & family came this evening. Emil was over.

Sunday, July 16, 1939

Went to mass. Raining all morning. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to Ellis Grove & to Gross Peach Orchard got some peaches, they are related to Bill; we also went to Fort Gage. Ed Brand & wife & Joe Gregson came a little while to say Hello; they were all at Emils today; going to leave for Ab. [Alabama] tomorrow evening, going to Levi again this eve. tomorrow to Heyls Bus. then to Waterloo & home again, drove from Alba. [Alabama] to Waterloo in day 680 mi. trip. Susie Gal of Hills is playing at Floraville tonite.
