Friday, Sept. 30, 1932

We made a lb. of butter again this morn, but no chance selling it. Rosalia & Bertille went to Red Bud this afternoon to see Mr. Voss grocery store, wether [sic – whether] they buy cream, they buy it, so I guess will sell it there, 14¢ today, they are paying, take it anyday. While at Red Bud we went to see Mrs. Owen Fahey, she is pretty weak, but I guess will get along alright now the way the doctors’ say. She got operated last week on appendix, now a lump of matter formed, & they opened it up this afternoon while we were waiting. Marcella was there. Rosalia got a letter from Miss Bell asking us all to come & see her Sun. all day, so we stopped in there to & told her, we couldn’t come on Sun. Angela Eichenseer is getting along good at Belleville, she will come home by Mon. She got adenoid & tonsils & growth in mouth removed, she is in a room of 5 patients, it costs her $12 a week. Mrs. Griffin is so awful weak, she is on the same floor with Angela. I seen in the paper that we have a Dentist Schilling in town in Maniers place started last Wednesday.

Wednesday, Sept. 28, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here, then went to Sparta Fair. Mrs. Griffin is awful sick, they took her to the Belleville hospital Sun. morning. Angela Eichenseer got operated on a growth in her nose. Papa & Rosalia went out in the woods & made a few posts. Chas. Jung egg man was here, he say he’ll take all our spring chick tomorrow morning. Henry & family where up this evening, he brought 4 barrels up to the whey place.

Sunday, Sept. 18, 1932

We went over to Aunt Mary’s for chicken dinner. Mr. Hill came in the afternoon awhile, & put on some lectures. We had cake. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie awhile, Mrs. Eichenseer’s sister Mrs. Erle & her daughter where also there, we had lunch there. This evening we drove out to Uncle Adam’s & Emil & visited them awhile. Today is Homecoming at Floraville. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary talked about going. Mamie weighed us today Rosalia 173½ lb. Mamie 137 Miss Erle 137 & Bertille 131.

Wednesday, Aug. 31, 1932

Papa is hauling wood again today. Bertille went along out to Henry’s a little while. Louis Lenhardt girl Ester, 25 yr. old died Sun. from T.B. & will be buried this afternoon at 2 o clock at Waterloo. Papa & Henry where both up to get whey, but neither could get any, they aren’t marking no casein today. They had to have the milk for ice cream. Papa & Rosalia took the mule out to Henry’s. Bertille went up to Eichenseer’s corner. They said up there that Edna Wacthel was going to Waterloo Catholic School this year. Mr. Jung was here & got 20 doz. eggs, 15¢. We went over to George Wagners a little while this evening.

Saturday, Aug. 6, 1932

Papa got whey. This afternoon he went to Nic Noveslac Sale by Burksville station on Bozzay Place. Mrs. Minnie Staufbiuel was here & asked for to go along with us to Red Bud tomorrow morning to church. Harry Kammler is having a dance again to nite, musci [sic] by Dixie Blue Boys. Joe Herzog’s is also having another floor dance. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to spent the weekend here. We went up to Eichenseer’s corner to listen to the musci [sic] he didn’t have a very big crowd, the weather got bad, so we went home. It rained a little, at Waterloo & Red Bud they had a good shower.

Monday, August 1, 1932

Papa got some whey this morning. We didn’t wash it looked to much like rain, cloudy. We cooked catsup & caned [sic – canned] pickles, we got 8½ qts. pickles so far, but the vines are right nice. We dugout 6 rows straw potatoes this afternoon. It rained this morn, so this afternoon it went nice digging. Henry was here & Hy. Armstutz, Jatho, Vic Eichenseer, but we where in the potato patch. Eggs are 11¢ today. Papa took them off 24 doz.

Tuesday, July 19, 1932

We washed, ironed. Papa helped Uncle Fred dig potatoes this morning, we all ate lunch over there. The New Athens’s cleaners around again this morning. Papa was over by Steve’s this eve. while Bertille went after the mail, & Mamie & Lucinda came home with her. All the threshing outfits pulled in today, all finished.

Thursday, July 14, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & her & Rosalia took the car & went out to Henry’s help prepare for threshers, they had dinner there. Hy. Armstutz was here this morning & evening. The threshers came here about 2 oclock, gave them lunch. Henry threshed 59½ bus. wheat, we got 19 bus. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went threshing at Henry Birkner’s they had them for supper. Eggs are 10¢ wheat 45 at Freeburg. Mr. Joe Eichenseer, Anton’s brother was buried this morning at Ruma, he had blood poison had a scratch on his arm. Frank Degenhardt died this afternoon at 4:30 he had T.B.

Sunday, July 3, 1932

We went to Red Bud. This afternoon we went over to Uncle Fred’s, George Wagner’s family come & Hy. Armstutz awhile, we had lunch there. This evening they went home again. Mr. Eichenseer’s brother priest said the mass in Hecker this morning. Mr. Jac. Maurer is awful bad sick the way we heard this morn, he is paralisied [sic], he sees double out of one eye, & his tongue is all crook & swollen, he can’t hardly talk. It rained nearly all afternoon & night. Carl Quathammer is giving a dance this evening.

Saturday, July 2, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went home this morn. & coming back tonite. Papa is plowing. Today was a few sisters celebrating fifieth [sic] jubilee, Mr. Eichenseer’s sister was one they went down to Ruma. It turned awful cold last night & rather cool today. Tomorrow is birthday anniversary of Willard Gambach, today & Hy. Armstutz. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here awhile then went to Hy’s Birthday.
