We went to church at Waterloo this morn. Henry & family came up for dinner, he went around taking orders, to sell his beef. About 2’oclock they went home. Vic Eichenseer, & Mr. & Mrs. Aug. Stamm from Ellis Grove where here, he wants to buy land, they wanted to go Uncle Freds, we called them they didn’t answer, so from here they went to Freeburg to look at some. We drove to Stringtown, Burksville, St. Joe out to a place where they have all White Rock chickens, we are going to get brooster from there. This evening we drove out to Uncle Fred’s but they weren’t at home. Lizzie Boll had her birthday celebration today it is on the Nov. 3, about 22 where present, they had a big dinner of duck & roast pork.

We went to Waterloo church this morning to hear the new organ, & they have 2 weeks mission starting today. This week for the women & next for the men. We went to George Boll’s shooting match but didn’t win a thing, there wasn’t much of a crowd there, he had 11 geese & a few ducks to raffle. Fred Schaefer was here this morn. to collect his threshing bill, papa paid him $1.85, for Henry. Harry Kammler has a dance tonight, Peter Bros. playing Thurs. night. The Hecker baseball club is giving a dance in Kammler’s Hall, Herzog Orchestra.
Friday, Oct. 23, 1931
Papa & Rosalia went down & cleaned our truck patch this morning, we have our green tomatoes all picked. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up all day & pulled there turnips up, some of them, they tried to deliver some around town, but couldn’t sell many, some to Mrs. Dueker & Mrs. Ahrens, that all they sold. The egg man came this afternoon he got our 8 doz. eggs & 1 bu. pears, from Uncle Fred, & they took 14¾ lbs. of springs along for 194, that’s the price at Lipperts. Eggs came down a ¢ in the paper, they are 25¢ today. We pulled our turnips out & put them in the cellar, what we had by the roadside. They rung over the lines last night that John Schmidt the tinner, he used to be at Waterloo died & would be buried Sat. afternoon, & also that Geo. Boll has shooting match Sun. for ducks & geese. Carl Quathmer also has shooting match Sun. Willie Reagean’s, quite a few Sunday. They worked at the cemetery agan today, Braun, Grossheim, Schaefer had the teams.

Ambrose Doyle’s have a little baby girl christened Doris Jean last Sun. Papa went up town, he brought us a bucket water along, for the premium on dinnerbell butter boxes. Harry Kammler has a confettie [sic] & serpentine dance this evening. Victor Geodelle is giving a birthday dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill, adm. 25¢, musci [sic] by the White Ducks, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & we all went, it sure was a crowd. Harry Kammler’s was a crowd too according to machines. Papa was at George Boll’s this afternoon & settle up with him.

Henry & Emil had lunch, dinner, lunch here. Hy. Armstutz was also here for dinner he helped to schock some today. Henry cut his oats for him too, & he smashed the binder all to pieces, he says he won’t be able to cut his at home anymore with it. He is finished up here now. Karl Boll & Marcella Ettling are being married & gave a dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & Leona all went, but we didn’t. Bill Herzog furnished the musci [sic], they say it sure was some bum wedding dance, not many people, all was outside. She was dressed with a white dress & hat, shoes & pale pink stockings. Buddy & a girl from St. Louis where the attendants. We all went over to Rennecker’s this evening, Jake Klein’s family where also there, celebrating Steve’s birthday. He got a 1 gal. ice cream & Oh Boy was it good in hot weather?

This morning Mrs. Ben Roth, Adams mother is being buried at Paderborn also mass there at 8 oclock. She stayed at Belleville with Adam. John & George live out here. We are going to have rooster today. Henry & family are coming up, he intends to start cutting oats. They & Emil where here for lunch, dinner, lunch. This evening Rosalia Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here this evening awhile from here they went to Mike Armstutz’s birthday it was “Aunt Anna’s.” We heard today that Karl Boll & Marcella Ettling is to be married Sat. & to give a dance at Breezy Hill. There are an awful lot of people losing horses this year, the weather is to hot. Rosalia took the eggs up town got 11¢, Mamie came back with her.

It rained a good April shower last night about 11 o’clock. Bertille got the mail this morning. Walter Wittenauer’s have a little baby girl they now have 5 children. Joe Sommer’s of Waterloo have a little baby girl was born on Frid. Apr. 10 & baptized Sun. afternoon by Fr. Eschman, named Norene Elizabeth. Mr. & Mrs. Henry Miller of Lord’s Corner who have adopted a orphan boy, was surprised last week when the boy was missing. The Sheriff Gaven & his Deputy Schenider where called but when they reached there the boy had arrived again. The play given by the Broad Hollow School last Sat. night was a grand success. The dance music was furnished by Karl Boll, Ralph Rausch, Marcella Ettling. There is to be a private Calico hop there next Sat. night. The music to be furnished by the Skaer’s bros. of Floraville. There was a man here & wanted to sell matches 6 boxes for 25¢ & 3 bars soap for 25¢. We didn’t buy any because its the same as store price. Papa was over by Steve Rennecker’s a while this evening.

We all went to church this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for breakfast, dinner & supper. Aunt Mary, Rosalia, Bertille went to church this afternoon for 1/2 hr. Uncle Fred went home & come back again for supper. Papa went to Waterloo today, & from there, too Caldwell’s farm. There were school kids here pretty near every half hr. today, selling chances on bedspread, quilt, lumber jacket for 5¢. We took 3 chances. This evening Henry’s family were all up. We all went to church. Uncle Fred took care of the kids. We heard today that Harry Stiffler was runned away from Gambach’s Store. The Scheriff [sic.] was out, & also Bollinger the other day. Henry was up here this morning & got a load of corn fodder. This evening they took 17 doz. eggs along home to set the incubator again, they got about 125 from the last hatch. Bertille took 1 setting down to Lizzie Boll’s this evening, got 20¢ for them. Eggs are 16¢ a doz.

Papa is setting posts this morn. – & this afternoon is going out to Henry’s to help him again, haul logs & maker posts. Rosalia went along too. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here all afternoon. Aunt Mary, Bertille went to church. Miss Martha Boll gave us a most pleasant call this afternoon. Rosalia & Bertille went up to church.

Today is the starting of 40 hour Adoration in Waterloo. Papa went up to the store this morning. Henry came up with the team today, he phoned a piece, & sowed oats, & plowed some, for us to plant potatoes, it was 3 rows, & he also plowed Uncle Fred’s patch for potatoes, so we planted them too. Henry was here for dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for supper, then Aunt Mary, Rosalia, Bertille went to church. Martha Boll has the measles now. Elgin Eidman died & was buried this afternoon, & also that Janssen in Belleville that killed his wife & himself was buried this afternoon at Freeburg. Rosalia had cleaning day upstairs.
