We are going to wash quilts today. Leona & the kids came up. They where here for lunch & dinner. We washed in all 12 quilts, & front room curtains, & table scarfs, & also washed windows, & cleaned the front room. Papa & the boy’s & Clifford where picking up rocks in the chicken yard & put them on the truck & hauled them on the road. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, she went to the play in the school hall given by the children, there wasn’t many there, about 12 people, it is to be tonight again, but it is raining all the time. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch, she went over to George Wagner’s a while. Tonight they want to go to Ike Napiers, it is Dorothy’s bithday & they are giving a dance party. They didn’t go account of rain. Mr. Jackson a medicine show man was here to see Papa, if he could stage a show on our ground by the highway for a week but Papa told him no. So they are going to have it on the School grounds beginning tomorrow evening. They have no tent just seats. Mr. Peter Dehn died Mon. evening at 7 & will be buried Thurs. afternoon in Red Bud cemetery. He was 86 yrs. old & sick about a year, most of the time in bed. Mrs. Philip Lehr was buried this morning in Red Bud.

Today Papa is 53 yrs. old. Ike Napier was here & brought some cheese for Aunt Mary a bowl full. Today is also Mamie Mueth’s birthday, she is 17 yrs. old. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & family where here for dinner & lunch we had chicken dinner. Henry & Leona went home & did the feeding & left the kids here, we all went to the truck patch. In the evening Henry & Leona & Aunt Mary, Rosalia Bertille went to church. Bill & Creses where out too. The evening was spent in playing music, singing, cake & Beer where refreshments served. Hecker & Belleville baseball club played today. Belleville won in a score of 18 to 4.

We all went out to Henry’s this afternoon. Papa & Henry started building the milk house. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here but there was nobody at home. They came back again this evening a little while before they went to Elmer Parker’s birthday dance, we where not invited, Mrs. Blackburn told them to come. Bertille got the mail today. In the Waterloo Times it was that Jac. Schaefers have a little baby girl. The Misses Rose & Alice Harbough went to Mc’ellester Oklomoa [McAlester, Oklahoma] to visit there sister Elenora. Ed Meng sold his 85 acre farm on Richland Creek last Sat. Henry Kleber of Floraville was the buyer, at about $40. an acre. The Hecker bank was appraised last Sat. morning, the lot & building at $1200, & fixtures $650, Albert Gardner, Emil Hartman, H.M. Hill where the appraisers. There was Central Examination held last Sat. in Hecker Public School by Mr. McCarthy & various schools in Prairie Du Long the teachers present where, Miss Gladys Hull, Miss Hilda Wihelms. Last Friday Mrs. Dan Mendel the barbers wife was taken to E. St. Louis to the hospital for treatment. The John McCarthy farm was sold at Master’s sale last Sat. Dr. N.B. Pautler Dr. for $2500. We had lunch out at Henry’s today.

Today is Aunt Lizzie’s Birthday. We painted the top on our Chev. today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this afternoon, from here Papa & Uncle Fred went out to see Wm. Harbaugh, then they went to Waterloo. Aunt Mary, Rosalia & Bertille went out & helped Henry plant his potatoes. This evening Fr. Grootens called for Papa & Uncle Fred to come there, so Papa went up to see him. Jac. Erle was here & left a card on the door, because nobody was at home.

Today is Bobby’s birthday, he is 5 yrs old. We all went out, this evening. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were there too, but that is all. Cake & lemonade were served. Papa is fixing chicken pens for our little chicks, they are hatching today. Ted Eichenseer’s kid & Pours, Reagans, kids were here & asked for permission to play ball on that piece of ground here by the house. Papa told them no they couldn’t. Henry was in Waterloo this afternoon to the doctor, he told him he should go home & go to bed, he had tonsilitis.

Today is Floyd’s birthday, he is 2 yrs. old, we were out there all day, for dinner. Papa & Henry worked in the woods. They hauled our woods together 20 loads we got. This evening we all went out there again. Uncle Fred Aunt Mary, Gus Geodelle & wife were all there, cake & lemonade were served. Eggs are 17¢.

It is snowing & awful cold this morn. Papa didn’t go to church today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner today. Henry was up & got medicine for Floyd, he has the measles now. Papa paid Uncle Fred for the seed potatoes today. 2 bu for $1.80. Today is August Blackburn’s birthday. Fr. Grootens went down to the Evangelical Church between our masses, & before there service & preached a sermon about the bank. They should do as he says & everything will be allright. Fred Schaefer brought Rome Meng home this evening, he was snowed under he couldn’t hardly hold him up. Philip & Bill Freund were here this evening & we all went to church.

It is Christ Buehler’s birthday today. Leona was up for first mass today & Henry for late mass. Uncle Fred is working on the bed what he bought yesterday, he is cleaning it with coakol [charcoal?]. It just seems that everybody what didn’t have the measles yet are sure to get them this year. Agnes Gregson, Karl Boll, Hugo & Robert Probst, Oscar Birkner’s children, & a good many others all got the measles now. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry, were all here for dinner today. He tried to fix our incubator. Tomorrow he is going to sew oats up here. George Reheis is to sew it for him. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Rosalia put up curtains upstairs in the house across the street. They took Cyrus Hill’s wife to the hospital at Red Bud to get operated on appendix. Rosalia went to church this evening.

We sent a birthday card today too Martha Boll, her birthday is Sunday, & also it is Frieda Buehler’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here a little while this morn. & then they went down to Red Bud to help Christ Buehler’s move, they are going to to move on Mrs. Threfall’s farm today. He has already 4 horses, & a wagon. He only took 3 horses past here, & 2 truck loads of furniture & things. Mrs. Buehler is also helping them. Bertille went to church this evening.

Leona sent a 1/2 gal. milk along with the milk driver & this afternoon Bertille baked Cream Pies. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came down this evening first before they went up to the euchre. They brought our cabbage plants along. There is a lot of cases of measles around now, Adam Eckert’s, Ed Cortners children all have them now. Mrs. Threfall moved a truckload of her things out today, they are going to move up by Darmstadt, they are to be out by Thurs. or’s they have to set them out. The Waterloo Bank has it in it’s hands. Christ Buehler is going to move in just as soon as their out. Today is Elvis Jatho’s birthday.
