Rain all night & morning, & heavy, showers this afternoon. We clipped chicken wings; cut lawn this evening. We got a postcard greetings from Josie Keller, she is 537 miles from St. Louis South, at present at Tenn. Sun, going to see Power House 1 Dam at Shoals Ala. Seen in Waterloo paper Anton Jaefer 77 yrs. was buried Mon. morning at Waterloo catholic Church cemetery. Mr. & Mrs. Otto Kalmer have adopted 2 orphan children, boy 2 & girl 1 yr. old. Mr. Chris Fleckenstein – Eva Armbruster’s husband was buried last week at Smithon [sic]. Clarence Osterhage & Helen Kolmer are to be married tomorrow at Waterloo. Cool this evening.

Cleaned chicken houses. Rained morning & afternoon. Mrs. Rennecker came to talk over the phone, theres dosen’t [sic] work. Berti took eggs to Merz’s got 19¢. Papa made another girl with a can..

Wednesday, June 19, 1935

Papa went to Evansville to see Volkmann, about horse trading, brought him along & he looked at the mares, had dinner, then papa took him as far as Red Bud. We went to Belleville this afternoon. Baked bread & cake, pie, cookies this morning; sold 7 springs, @ 15½¢; to the market at Belleville. We made a little girl with a sprinkle can for in front of the house, & painted it. We went out to Henry’s, Emil came & Dan Geodell’s also. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & we went to Chris Buehlers this evening, brought ½ gal. cherries along, we gave them to Leona.

Tuesday, June 18, 1935

We all went up dewberry picking this morn. got 6 gallons, had our baskets all filled, canned 9 qts.; cold packed, & rest in jelly, 12 glasses so far; & 5 pts. peas, also cold packed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo; Clara Wagner came over a little, tell us about canning peas. Rain again, in showers, & awful cold, north wind. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were at Belleville Sat, to see Ivo, he was pretty good talked quite a bit. Papa got skim milk yesterday, made cheese today.

Monday, June 17, 1935

We washed, ironed, had chicken dinner & dumplings, cabbage. Boy! was it good. Rain this morning & tonite. Eggs 20¢.

Sunday, June 16, 1935

Went to Red Bud. Rain all morning. Anton Jaeger of Waterloo, mail carriers dad died at the Hospital, was operated for a growth on the bowels, & was pretty bad. We went to Ruma to see Simpson. Renneckers came over this evening. Wagners are having double birthday celebration, Chas. & Melvin, both this week, all relation were there, about 55 people in all, some houseful; for supper. Rain again this afternoon & evening.

Saturday, June 15, 1935

Papa went over to Meng’s a little to see the barn. We got the check for our chickens that we shipped, got 17¢ medium springs & broilers 15½¢. & heavy hens 16½¢. Mertz charged 65¢ for hauling. Papa & Rose went to Waterloo with a load wheat; got 73¢ bu; there was also a train wrecked, sale on Rickert lot; things sold so cheap, papa bought paint for $1.50 & 80¢ gal; vanilla 2 bottle $1. for 25¢ etc so much. Rose went to Hecker, paid Ted Eichenseer for house insurance $24.90; some cheaper than last year. Eggs 20¢. We went to Waterloo to Pautler’s, Paderborn baseball club gave a dance, Moonlighters playing.

Friday, June 14, 1935

R. Rausch & Al. Eckert came & got a coop chickens we shipped over to St. Louis, 2 dozen young & 1 day old ones. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to lawn. Mr. Hellwing horse trader of Mascoutah was here, & papa went along out to Henry’s with him, to look at the mares, couldn’t do nothing, they were at Waterloo. Papa & Rose went out this afternoon to Henry’s. Ivo Buehler must be pretty bad, no one is allowed in, not even his dad & mother they say.

Thursday, June 13, 1935

Henry & family came up 5:30, him & papa went horse trading to Okawville, Red Bud etc; had lunch, dinner & supper. Rain this afternoon & warm. Wagners kids were over. Catholic church pinic [sic] at Dupo, today, we have chances to win $125.00 cash & $30 quilt, 4 times. raffling. Eggs 19¢. Berti bought 1 bar soap & got a chance to win a water set by Mertz store. Rained all nite.

Wednesday, June 12, 1935

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, had lunch & dinner. Uncle went to Red Bud, took wheat down & got flour; sewed Bertie’s dress; Papa went out to Henry’s; he had a little bad luck, hitches the mares to the mower, wouldn’t go; fell down, broke a piece in mower. It sure is terrible hot today. Used cars sale at Nobbe’s at Waterloo.
