Today the teacher’s have institute in Monroe Co. Papa went over to Steve Rennecker’s awhile last evening. Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morning. Mr. Feldmeier was here this afternoon and looked at our horses. But he didn’t want them. Papa went to Belleville this afternoon. I seen in the paper that Mrs. Alfred Stahl was ill & Miss Luella Pfeiffer is working there. Last Sat. Eichenseer’s has a new roof put on the barn. Jacob Helfrich did the work. Mr. & Mrs. George Wagner and family spent last Sunday at Forest Park in St. Louis. George Gambach will sell out and retire from merchandise business. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this evening, they brought a watermelon along, we ate it, it tasted good. Bertille took 6 doz. eggs off and got .23¢ a dozen.

Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morning. It is raining again this morning. Papa went to Waterloo today. Bertille mailed the letter to Chicago Mail Order. Bertille got the mail & then we went down to see Deuker’s. They had company from St. Louis for a little while. Miss Mason the teacher from the upper school was also there. We 5 played ruma and then we played bunco.

Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morning. Aunt Mary was there too she came up with Oscar’s wife & Frank’s wife, Emma, then after church they & Emma Eckert, Lena Birkner, & Louise Birkner all went down to Christ Buehler’s to help quilt. We had chicken for dinner today. Talk is spread that George Lorberg is going to move in Henry Braun’s house in Hecker and he is going to attend to the farm at home, Mrs. Lorberg wanted to move downstairs, so I guess that is why they have to move. John Reagan is going to move in Mrs. Stauenbiel place in half the house. Papa furnished plowing this morning. Eggs are .24¢ at present. We sold 4 dozen last night. It is raining this afternoon. Bertille got the mail this evening. Papa went up to the bank this afternoon and then he went down to the Sorghum Mill. Steve Rennecker was fixing the machine they are going to start soon.

We all went to early mass this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Floraville to the church picnic. Mr. Carr was here from Renault, he asked the way to Bill Geodelle, to buy a team of horses. Tonight we all went to the picture show the name of it was Rin Tin Tin. Admission .25 and .10¢. At Recess Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary left for the dance down at Weber’s barn. It was a surprise party for Mrs. Weber. Today is Jake Reheis birthday. After the show this evening they raffled out the cards from the picnic. The lucky winners were, Hy. Schneider from Waterloo, John Braun 2 times, Louisa Braun, Peter Kaiser, Joe Kaiser, Oscar Schmidt from Valmeyer, Fred W. Birkner he got a pair of pillow cases. Hecker played ball with St. Louis and won 20 to 4.
Sunday, Sept. 14, 1930
We all went to first mass this morning at 8 o’clock Leona and her two girl friends, Miss Ida Whitkamp, & Miss Lena Koopman. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for lunch. Second mass is from now until 10:15. Henry came up for that. He helped to move the piano from church over to the new school hall. Next Sun. night will be the first moving picture shown in the hall. Steve Rennecker was over a little while this evening. It rain this afternoon from about 3 until 5:30, showers, it sure was nice & we need it too. Robert Laut couldn’t get his machine started so Perry Klotz pulled him down the hard road a piece until it started. George Wagner’s were up at Floraville last night. Jake Mehrmans had a dance, it also was Bernice Mehrmans birthday. Dan Geodell furnished mass.

We went to late mass this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here all day, we took them home this evening. We at the watermelon this afternoon. What we got from Lee Gregson for .30¢. It tasted pretty good. Uncle Fred gave Mr. Hill a piece to put in the paper about Rosalia’s birthday.

Today is Labor Day. Picnic at Red Bud, Smithton, Tiptown & Old time dance at Waterloo Court House Yard. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up about 3 o’clock and then we went down to Red Bud we were there a little while, then the fellow came with snakes & selling Cactus Oil & rattle snake oil. There were four fellows singing and one playing piano, Snitzelbank & Adam’s Rib. From there we watched the ladies or women saw wood on the stage. About 5:30 we all went to Tiptown picnic & dance. We were there a little while & the prizes were awarded. 1st prize Living Room Suite Mrs. Kate Brand from Red Bud, Ill. 2nd prize 9×12 rug A.L. Clifford Red Bud, Rt. 4 the same man what got the radio last year. 3rd prize wrist watch Herman Geoslling Waterloo, Ill. 4 rd. & fifth prize went to St. Louis & East St. Louis. The dancing began in the evening. Admission .25¢. Ludwigs accordion & guitar, mandolin, furnished music. Uncle Fred & Gregory Mcarthy played together. We left from there & went back to Red Bud and listened to the music a little while there. Rosalia was at church this morning.

We had to get our chicken ready for the picnic this morning. Bertille went to church. Aunt Mary & Rosalia went up to see the procession of the Bishop. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry’s family were all here for chicken dinner. Henry & Rosalia did the work this evening. They had a very large crowd at the picnic. The Smithton Band furnished music.

We all went early this morning to church. The priest passed Miss Stella Roscow by this morning at the communion railing. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner and breakfast. This afternoon we all went into Belleville. We got some cook pots. Rosalia went and got the mail. This evening Papa, Rosalia, Bertille, Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & family went up to Uncle Adam’s & Emil’s. I have seen in the Waterloo Times that Miss Ida Sommer & two girl friends from Columbia motored to Louisville, Kentucky, where they will spend a week seeing many points of interest such as Mammoth Cave, Lincoln’s birthplace at Hodgenville, Ky., The Old Kentucky home of Bardstown & Camp Knox. They expect to return home Sat. Also Miss Marie Kolmer and Louise Dalkert left Sat. for a tour of the west. Their stops will include Denver, Colorado Springs, Estes & Yellowstone parks. They will be gone about 2 weeks. A 8 lb. baby girl was born to Mr. & Mrs. Geo. Strattman, the shoe man, at St. Mary’s Hospital, East St. Louis, Monday morning. They now have a pair. On August 9, Miss Alice Hoffman became the bride of Mr. Roy Bohres of St. Louis.
