Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed in Hecker all night last, & part today. She went to church this morning high mass, Fr. Jubillee 20th. there where 3 strange priests. Adam Braun & Melching where here electioneering him & Joe Brauch running for road commissioner. Papa went out to help Henry sow oats, there for dinner. We made quite a lot of garden, but is rather cold, eggs are still 9¢. The School children are having a free play tonite, all free. We had lettuce for supper, it is good.

We went to Red Bud church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner & supper playing 5 hand pinochle. The St. Mary’s players from Belleville have a play in the school hall here tonite.

We went to Red Bud church this morn. Christ Buehler’s family were all at Red Bud church too they are finished in Hecker, Fr. Grootens told him either pay pew rent or take his children out of school, so tomorrow he will sent his kids to Red Bud school. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner, this afternoon we went out there had supper, Uncle Adam & Emil where also there, played pinochle. Ed Meng was here this morn, to see Uncle Fred. Tonight Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker & George Wagner’s family where here played cards. Steve held 1000 Aces & George had 300 pinochle & 150 trumps. & In the same game Rosalia had 1500 trump. The St. Mary’s players are giving a play in the School Hall tonight Adm. 35.

Today is Holiday. We all went to Waterloo this afternoon, we went out to the clump [dump?] pile, but they haven’t got it gathered up yet in town. From there we went around Red Bud home, we stopped in at Caldwell’s House, & at the place where Bozzay lived. We stopped at Red Bud, Papa went to talk with the butcher, & we where talking with Levi Gregson’s family. Bill was here for supper, in the evening we went along to Waterloo, to get Creses, then went out to Coxey to Greatling’s Hall, Mrs. Pete Keim celebrated her birthday there. Henry & family, Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Papa went to the show, this evening. Bernice Wagner got the beads, & Ruth Braun the perfume for singing Springtime in the Rockies, Niece Rausch, & another girl each got 25¢. Mrs. Estelle Stovall got the perfume & Bobby set for calling the loudest for her Husband. Wilfred Eichenseer got the cigarette case, he got the most cheers. Leslie Raush also was in that but didn’t get anything. The name of there play was “Crazy Sister.”

For once we got a real nice day again. Mrs. Dan Mendal, the barbers wife died & is being buried this morning at Waterloo. Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morning. We went down in the truck patch this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for supper. They bought a piece of beef & then we had a good supper. We all then went to the show, & always a crowd. There play was Mr. & Mrs. Brown. There is a dance at the Brick House tonight given by the Horse Creek Ramblers, lots of people went there after the show. Eggs are 12¢.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family where all here for dinner. Philip & Bill where here for lunch. In the evening they came back & we went down to the Brick House, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went there too. Bill Herzog furnished musci, [sic] they had a pretty fair crowd. They charged the gents 25¢ ladies free. The Red Bud Dramitic [sic] Club came to Hecker to the new school hall & gave a play to-night. There was a terrible accident in Hecker, this evening, there was a car came from the west & didn’t make no stop, & Eugene Bruns was going by & then smashed together, nobody was hurt but the cars where both damaged. The stranger car was a man from Belleville & one from Chester, they where intoxicated. The Sheriff was called & he arrested them took them to Waterloo to jail & the way they said they would have to pay $100 fined & 10 day in jail. I don’t know who is right, we heard now again that the boy’s where uncosinence [unconscious].

Looks like snow this morning. It started snowing & kept up all day. Henry & Leona went to Belleville this morning & left the kids here. They were back again for dinner. We baked delicious cookies this morning. Harold & Virgil Eichenseer were here this evening and brought us a letter for an invitation for a play in St. Augustine’s Hall next Tues. afternoon given by the school children, admission fee says 11¢ in this letter. We got a Christmas card today from Creses Freund.

We washed this morning & hung it in the basement. It is awful cold. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this afternoon. Tonight the Y.P.L. is to have their play in Kammler’s Hall, the name is “Dangerous Waters.” It was pretty nice, the characters were: Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Hepp, Henry Spalt, Henry Keorber, Milton Wagner, Ralph & Clarence Rausch, Flossie Kammler, Katy Keorber, Alvera Jatho, Marcella Ettling. Karl Boll made it thunder & lightnin’ & rain. The reserved seats were all taken. Henry Wiedeman & Woods furnished the music, accordion & violin. Henry came up this evening, he is going to butcher tomorrow.

Papa & Bertille went to first mass this morning. It rained a little, it is supposed to rain seven Sundays because it rained on Easter Sunday. Today is Olivia Laut’s birthday. Papa, Rosalia, Bertille, Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary went to the play and dance at Kammler’s hall. The name of the play is “What Happened to Braggs.” It was 3 acts. That that were in the play are: Milton Wagner, Ralph Rausch, Henry Wieg and Ralph Wiegand, Henry Spalt, Karl Ball, Alvera Jatho, Marcella Ettling, Eunice Blackburn, Flossie Kammler. They had the play in the afternoon too.
