Rained a little. Candler got load hay $8.00. Oliver Ruhl wheat ground measurer was here. A guy from Mo. selling & renewing the Extension Magazine for $3.00 Catholic paper & we took it again for another year, & also got a prayer book along. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, worked his lot with the mare; we plowed a patch & planted in bu. potatoes, & made sweet potatoes rows. We washed, ironed. Eggs 17¢. The Chev. Agent from New Athens was here.

Nice day. Porter Braun Chev. sales agent was here and pap went along to Uncle Freds; Wm. C. Voges was here wanted to buy oats but said 40¢ bu. was to much. Austin McDermott, comitteman [sic] on the A.A.A. project was here yesterday evening; getting the people to sign. Pap & Uncle Fred went to Belleville then to New Athens, Chev. Dealers; & we Aunt Mary went out to Henry’s to see Floyd he is sitting up now; drawing pictures. We went to Oak Grove tonite to J. Cody’s farewell dance, free, big crowd present; he is going to start farming on his place again & Joseph of Bursksville is coming at Oak Grove, going to have opening dance May 10, they say. Chas. Guebert south of Hecker, died this morn; blood poisoining [sic], just since Easter Sun. will be buried Tues. afternoon, Round Prairie Cemetery, he was middle aged.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, she went to mass. Pap went in the woods. We finished our quilting, Star quilt. Uncle Fred hauled load wheat to Waterloo & got $1.03, she stayed here only; Ed. Brand’s birthday today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to New Athens, got her lace collar again from the show at Geigers store, she received a little tablecloth to stitched, gave it to us.

Went to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary made a short call. Louis Birkner’s family of New Athens were visiting them today. At 11:30 today report came to Mrs. Renneker, that Peter Dehn’s house was on fire, he was at the house at the time, looked out the window & seen fire on the lawn, he called for help, saved a few things, & house burned to the ground, old one & new one, the wind was so high, it carried sparks over to Owen Fahey’s hay shed & that started burning from the bottom, but they got it out & plows around it, Steve & Gus Klotz & papa went over to help this afternoon roads are terrible muddy. Stutz & Keller of Near New Athens looked at the horse, said they see us later.

Pap went to town. Another beautiful day. Pap & Berti went out to Henry’s help saw wood, Cleveland & Emil also helped. Berti ironed & patched out there. Geo. Roever & Jeff Bell looked at the mare said it was to small. Alois Havey called but pap wasn’t home. The New Athens butcher looked at the heifers & cow, didn’t suit him at dads price.

Rain all morning. Yesterday was Mr. Mrs. Joe Neary’s 1st year wedding anniversary. Ida Braun 2 yrs. dead. Bill Vogt & man was here, they went to Blackburn’s, delivered a hog, then went up to Henry’s & looked at the mares. Werner & guy from over by New Athens was here, looking for a drill & other tools, but ours was already sold. Papa was by Renneckers awhile, she gave him some flower slips for us to plant out. Eggs 24¢ today.

Papa & Rose went out digging potatoes; stoped [sic] at Henry’s. Bert canned qt. pickles & ½ tomatoes. Papa hauled load wheat to Red Bud got 77¢, that is the fourth load from Hecker wheat. Bert Thompson sold his farm to Minor from Belleville; Al. Eckert Niede Rausch, Jul Rausch, are going to Waterloo High School, Fredrick Fritsche to New Athens, & Beata Stiffler to Red Bud, lots of high school students.

Rose & Berti went to Red Bud got things, flour mash & fruit jars 2 doz. 75¢ ap. Canned peaches all day, 17 qts. Henry & family came, kids stayed here & they went to Belleville, had lunch here. Rain today again, this evening, every day so far this week it rained; heavy at Belleville & Athens. Mascoutah had a terrible storm the other day, no decent tree left any more, some were saying. Harold Wagner had a automobile accident Sun. night at Athens some one ran into him, without lights, machine is being repaired at Smithon [sic] garage. We went over to Renneckers awhile.

Predigar is being buried at New Athens Catholic church & cemetery from the home of his grandmother Weber’s. Steve Renneckers Agnes Gregson’s birthdays today. We went berry picking after lunch got about 7 gallon’s; gave some to Henry’s & Aunt Mary. had dinner at Henry’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, had lunch here. We canned 2 qts berries & made the rest in jelly. Rose & Bert went to Mamie’s this evening, went sightseeing through town. Ivo Buehler was brought home from the hospital today, is pretty good.
