Papa went out helped Henry saw wood. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, we help her quilt awhile, then him & Rosalia started fire for butchering, 10’oclock. They had dinner & supper here. We started butchering 185 lb. hog this afternoon, finished about 4 o clock. Mr. Nic Helfrich & Isa. hauled load corn, 41 bu. 50 lbs., he bought the liver for 25¢. Emil was here wanted block & tagle for butchering tomorrow, but it is out at Henry’s. Miss Josie Keller went to Lizzie Boll’s & rang up, then drove down here, she was at Red Bud today; we saved the kidney & snoots for her to eat; she bought $1.00 took it along, liver, pork, blood sausage.

We washed, ironed. Oscar Klotz was here, to see if we wanted to buy corn. Klotz has some to sell; for 40¢ bu., but we got ours now. Mr. Hill was here gathering news for the paper. It is an awful nice day, warm. Josie Keller is spending, Sun. & Mon. at Ben Heyl’s & Tues. at Triveollers at Red Bud, then she is going back home again. Kenneth Kemp got a new coupe Pontiac cars. We sawed wood this afternoon. Henry, Cleveland, Emil. Uncle Fred helped. Aunt Mary stayed here, we put her quilt in the frame across the street, they had supper here, then we played 5 hand pinochle.

Thanksgiving Day. We went to Red Bud church. Then went on to Aunt Mary for chicken dinner & supper, backbones, Iceberg lettuce, cranberries. Oh Boy! Did it taste good; Cream cake, pumpkin pie. Hot Dogs! Hy. Meng came, paid for his hog. 23¢ lbs. at $3.75. Hy & family came left the kids, here & we went along with them to Brezzy Hill to Myrtle Rau, Quentin Schroeder, wedding dance, bride wore white & veil, bridesmaids wore green, blue. Country Club Orc. from there we went to Oak Grove, to Mudd & Hendrick wedding dance, & crowd, Oh My! on both places, string band. Myerscough & Deukers where all there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Josie, came up, so they played, pinochle till 12′ o clock. Henry sends his milk to Waterloo Creamery now.

George Wagner came, payed [sic] for his hog $3.80 lb. Hy Meng got one to & butchered today. The Moonlighters played at a dance at Foster Pond last nite, wedding of Simon Matthews 19 & Agnes Scheinder 19 & to best, where Chas. Shilling & Mary Matthews. Tonite they played at Pautler’s park; Gents 25 ladies free. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stoped [sic] in, on there way to Red Bud, moving Christ Buehler & family down there, all the Birkners is helped. Frank Buehler moved into a different place down there. Miss Josie Keller was here for supper, she brought us each a dress goods, & quilt patterns. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then we went to the free show in school hall. Rheinhardt from Belleville & Scout Boy’s; all free. When we left Josie got flat tire. Braun’s kids fixed it for her. Ed Pabst brought load corn.

We went out to Uncle Freds for dinner & supper. Mrs. Authur [sic – Arthur] Roscow came along from church up here, she went to see Mrs. Stauenfbiel; they came here awhile after we got home. Henry came up & got our truck to haul hogs to the market tomorrow. Miss Josie Keller & Miss Kuhn where here this evening for supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came to; had watermelon lunch, they left about 9:30, then the alarm ring came of Ald. Rittmeyer’s house was on fire, went over to Wagner’s, papa & George went out; everything was ablase [sic], summer kitchen & house, burned to the ground, & all that was in it, they where up at Belleville, so all they have left is what is on there backs 1 car, Smithon [sic] fire department came but no good, no water no where’s. Mr & Mrs. H. M. Hill observed there golden Wedding Anniversary today, which will be Aug. 30 Wed; all the children, grandchildren where present, lot of musci [sic] furnished.

Deocration [sic] Day. We worked our truck patch & garden this morning. The St. Augustine Parish have pinic [sic] this afternoon & evening. There is School Pinic [sic] at Waterloo at the Kniting Mill Park. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came for the church pinic [sic], Miss Keller & Miss Kuhn stopped in awhile then went out to Aunt Mary’s for dinner. Bill Freund was here for supper, then we all went up to the pinic [sic] to, didn’t win anything, Mamie got a nice quilt. The Prairie Du Rocher band played.

Josie came up for church this morn, & she came down here & brought papa glasses along, he forgot them last night, Papa is sewing clover seed. It is cloudy & cooler today. Mr. & Mrs. Joe Geodelle nee Fritz have a little baby boy Joe Jr. born Feb. 24 Friday. Mrs. Kreitner of Edison Place obtained a divorce from her husband, lawyer Eugene Kreitner, charge cruelty. The Farm Bureau Office at Waterloo is moved 2 doors west in Ruch’s building, on account lack of space. A transfer of Christian Betsman & wife to Dominic Klein in in the paper. Dr. Werth & A.A. Brandt, where purchasers of new Chev, Coupes. There where 2 fellows here looked at our mules. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Josie came up for church, we played cards, 2 games.

Today is Ash Wed. lent starts. Henry Armstutz came & told papa to work on the cistern if he could, so him & Uncle Fred helped, 10 men altogether, digging it out for fire protection in town. Aunt Mary & Josie went to church, & then come here, for dinner & supper; she brought a spread along what she is stitching; this evening they went to Buehler’s, Christ’s birthday. We went to church this eve, & received the ashes.

Rosalia & Bertille went out to help Leona quilt today, this afternoon. Josie Keller came out to Aunt Mary’s on a surprize [sic] this morning; this evening they went to Oscar Birkner’s, Gilbert’s birthday.

Line’s 12’s members are all online 2 now, so they are all out working, setting posts. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s, papa is going to use Henry’s horses & wagon & haul wood together. Rosalia is coming back home again. We took dinner up in the woods to papa, got 9 loads wood hauled up, then Henry came up there for the team to get posts out for the line; so he had to quite [sic – quit]; we took a load of fire wood along home, stopped at Henry’s a little while then went home. Papa hauled cinders from back Henry’s sheds, hauled them in our road. Bertille got the mail, there was a letter there from J. Keller for Aunt Mary, I called her up, & she said for me to open it; the letter was mailed last Fri & was in Hecker on Sat., but no body got there mail till today, she had written that she would try & come out Tues. or Wed. but she didn’t show up those day, anyway’s nobody seen anything of her. Renneckers & Wagners went to Lauts tonite. Mr. Ed. Pabst brought a load of corn this afternoon.
