Canned 1 qt. pickles & ½ pt. tomatoes. Rose fixed Bert a skirt. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was up had lunch here. Bert took some cucumber pickles over to Clara; they got a 6 lb. fish from Hy. Armstutz. Mr. & Mrs. Milton Wagner have a 8 lb. baby boy born this morning, everybody is well they say; that increases the Hecker population to 201. We went to Red Bud, then out to Tiptown to see Mike Elonka, about some pigs, but his were sold; then went to Burksville Station to see Van De Reit, to see a cow that Finnerty has to sell there for $40.00, old; then to Waterloo got beef bone for soup tomorrow; then home, had supper.

Canned 2 qts. pickles & ½ pt. tomatoes. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s helped put up hay; made 17 loads, stacked; Emil & Clem Parker helped; they had lunches & dinner there. Bert got flower slips from Mrs. Rennecker & Mamie; planted them out. Mrs. Rennecker came over this evening & got some from ours. George Lorberg’s have a baby girl born last week; getting along nicely. 3 girl 1 boy. Frank Kroll moved his furniture & family from Al. Monike’s place to upstairs in Manier’s place, couldn’t agree together. Dr. Isselhardt was in Hecker at his office in Kammler’s building, opened up again Wed. from 1 till 4 o clock, every week; Rev. Hosto hit a 80 yr. old man at Mascoutah & killed him, he was only driving 20 mi hr. the policeman saw it also, the man ran in front of his car.

Papa & Rose went out digging potatoes; stoped [sic] at Henry’s. Bert canned qt. pickles & ½ tomatoes. Papa hauled load wheat to Red Bud got 77¢, that is the fourth load from Hecker wheat. Bert Thompson sold his farm to Minor from Belleville; Al. Eckert Niede Rausch, Jul Rausch, are going to Waterloo High School, Fredrick Fritsche to New Athens, & Beata Stiffler to Red Bud, lots of high school students.
Monday, Sept. 2, 1935
Labor Day. We canned damson plums & jelly. Firemen’s pinic [sic] at Red Bud; chicken supper at Donahues, Tipton parish giving it there. We went to Red Bud to see the parade & pinic [sic] awhile then went to Donahue’s, stayed for the dance. Adm 25. A C Buchon’s Orch. It started in raining about 5 o clock, & went home then. Not much of a crowd in the evening, quite a few had supper. The Smithons [sic] Catholics have pinic [sic] also, we have chances on there, things that are to be raffled, cash, – etc. Henry started plowing this afternoon here, had lunch.

We cleaned chicken house; canned peaches got 93 qts. Made perserves [sic]. Henry & family came got pk. basket peaches to cook as perserves [sic]. Elmer Weihl has a baby girl born at E. St. Louis on Aug. 23, – 2 weeks later than Rochies [? – unclear], make 2 grandaughters [sic] of Louis Weihl. It was in the paper that Al. Eckert 15 of Hecker was arrested for speeding last Sun. night at Belleville.

We canned peaches, tomatoes, pickles, baked pie. Henry came to cut hay, had lunch. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon; it is there 37 Wedding Ann. today we went out this evening, had supper. Henry & family went to Waterloo to see a 10¢ show. Mrs. Mary Cody died last Sat. aged 74 yrs. she is Mrs. Perry May’s & Jack Cody’s mother. There sure was some fellow, entered the home of a aged couple at Maeystown & intended committing murder, but the gun didn’t fire; so he hit the couple unsconsious [sic], the door had been open & screen door wasn’t hooked; had blood hounds to trace it; & tracked through a woods to a car track so far nothing has been found, he left his gun lye, & it is at the Sheriff office at present. A robber also entered Louis Stadter’s home near Poe Station, gaining entrance by forcing the door open with an axe, Sun. afternoon, awhile the family were helping threshing took 2 suits clothes $4.00 each etc. & he wasn’t found either so far.

Went out to Henry’s peel peaches, got 10 bus for $1.50 at Centralia, canned 60 qts. made peach butter & preserves, had lunch & dinner. Mrs. Geodelle & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped.
Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1935
Canning peaches. Papa went up in the woods; this morn, & afternoon; counted trees what they cut down. Henry & Mr & Mrs Cleveland went to Centralia after peaches today; left 5:30 this morning. The motor cop examined the track what Wittenauer made, & said they should measure it, so pap did & it was 100 ft. were the colt was throwed. Tonite is Coummity [sic] Pinic [sic] in Red Bud Band concert & drawing of tickets, boxing wrestling matches, & dance in City Hall beginning at 10’o clock; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went to Red Bud, to the drawing. Mrs. Leonard Hoef won $7.50 in trade; in 10¢ ticket, Rosalia won a box paint & polish & radiator cleaner for Machines; in 10¢ ticket & Rita Pour & Mrs. Wm. Keonistien were among the winners from Hecker, also Noell Roscow; between drawings was tap dancing by A. Buchreon’s kids & singing by Box Chorus, with Dr. Schmidts wife Director, & 3 boys sang “Home on the Range,” “Isle of Carie” & “Old MacDonalds Farm,” Shade of the Old Apple Tree. Drawing of $1.00 tickets, Henry Steibel winning the $15.00 in trade, had all nice prizes, & large crowd present.

Leona got the kids. We canned 5 qts peaches. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, him & papa went to Waterloo & to Walter Kelley’s; had dinner & supper here, then we cut lawn.

We canned 12 qts peaches this morning, went to Belleville this afternoon. Buehler’s are threshing again, awful warm. We went to Pautlers tonite, Osie & Bill Matzenbacher’s birthday dance, nice crowd, Moonlighter Orc. Adm. gents 25 ladies free.
