Went to Belleville, papa got 3 teeth pulled by Dr. Wagner $3.50 was allowed $1 for gold crown on tooth. Rose & Bert went to Red Bud, went to Felcias Roscows got dress pattern, & we got 2 sacks feed from Zipfel. Rose took 6 doz. eggs. 21¢. Dr. Smith of Red Bud, his wife left him Sat., also Krehns fired hired girl. Henry came after wire stretcher, this evening.

Finished the dresses. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here, then went to Belleville, they brought us 5¢ – 2 gal. skim milk along from the creamery, to make cheese. Papa got hair cut. We cleaned hen house, & put the young spring roosters over & fed them up to sell. Clifford gave up his job by Waterloo, & came back to Meng’s again now. Eggs are 20½¢ at Mertz today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she went to church. It started in to rain again a little this evening & cloudy.

Raining all morning. We went to church. Spirtas was here & went out to Aunt Mary’s. Hecker is playing the first ball game today, here with Waterloo, & Hecker lost, the game & Boy some yelling they did, & terrible noise. Miss Melba Hepp & Leifer are being married this afternoon at Belleville, double bredismaids [sic]. Mildred & Erma, sisters of the bride, dressed in pink & blue, bride in white; all relatives that is Uncle & Aunts invited for supper & this evening 200 guests invited to Daab’s Club house for dance. We went out to Henry’s stopped a little while, then went to Waterloo to Mary Matthews birthday dance, Sunset Synodabt playing, but went we go there, it lightened & thundered, we went home again, it rained during the night; there were quite a few cars there.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Rose went to Belleville had dinner here. Mr. Hartman of Red Bud looked at the colt etc. The Puro Product man was here; Wangelein of Belleville was here & bought dairy mare for $30.00, got it this evening. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up again brought yeast along. Koestine’s on Reheis place have a little baby boy. Lester Gregson is being sued for an automobile accident, which happened a good while back. Berti took Mrs. Staufbiel’s pattern back again.

Beautiful day; but the ground is still terrible wet yet. We went to Belleville, Rose went to dentist & got the packing out of her tooth, all opened now. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up again this afternoon; we planted beans. Bertil got chain letter from Mrs. Kruse of Burksville; today Mrs. Rob. Merz of Waterloo was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital & operated for appendix, same day, last week; getting along OK present; Mr. Otto Horn was here. Mr. Davis of Belleville, here look at colt & horse.

Rain this morning; then sunshine & windy. We went to Belleville, Rose & papa went to Dr. Wagner dentist, Rose got wisdom tooth pulled, terrible one, took at exray [sic] first, it grew backwards she was in the chair 2 hrs; having it pulled out, cost $5.00 wit exray [sic] $2.00 & medicine; she came home, went to bed. The stove foundry men aren’t working today, on a strike up there again, its awful. It sure is dangerous in Belleville now, there looking any time for the electric plant to blow up, people watch day & nite, found dynamite sticks all over the yard already, search every strange car that passes by, orders is if they see any one, should shout right away, its awful up there. This evening at 9:30 alarm ring, fire at Mrs. Staufenbiel’s house, papa went over; fire department came & soon had it out, burned hole in the roof on Volkman’s side, the nurse had put a grease rag in the stove & damper opened it went straight up, sparks set fire on the roof. Mr. Volkmans is getting along pretty good now, fever is gone but he is awful weak; he asked what the noise was when they started water on the roof, they told him, washing machine was going out in the shed. Good many people came right away, helped Roy was up L. Armstutz car was backed out of shed.

We washed, ironed, & what a day terrible windy & cold, my! clothes freezing stiff on the line, imagine, sun shining. Papa went up town with the eggs; got 21¢. They say there was ice 6 in. last night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he spaded his garden, she helped us quilt, Mrs. Rennecker also came over, on a visit, & helped to quilt, so we finished it & took it out of the frames; sure pretty. Cotton Reifscheinder of Belleville, delivered our 2 heifers for $28.00 this afternoon; Papa went to Red Bud to Zipfel & got chic & laying mash. Uncle & Aunt & Rennecker had lunch here; eggs this afternoon 20¢. Mrs. Euler is over in E. St. Louis at St. Mary’s Hospital, she had a tooth pulled, & it never grew shut, must be some kind of a growth or cancer in her mouth, taken there last week, she had extry [sic – x-ray] taken at Red Bud, but they can’t do nothing for her. Mr. Eugene Bruns was removed home Sat, from Belleville hospital & is getting along fairly well. Jonny Henkel bought a seperator [sic], going out threshing this season with tractor. At the School Election, Sat out there Gus Blackburn, was elected director with 14 votes, Fred Reheis 1 Emil 1 vote. Cleveland term was expired. Aunt Mary sent two Easter Greeting, one to Mrs. Ros Winters at Kentucky & told them they were planning on visiting them this summer & also Frank Jermings at Shumay [sic] Ill; I guess they surely will be surprised!

Today it is a little warmer, Palm Sun. The Evangical [sic] churches have confirmation today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this morning, went home & came back this afternoon, for services, had supper here. A guy from Foster Pond was here & bought our drill for $10.00 cash. Dominic & Alois Roth was here, looked at our horses & colt. We went up to Reifsceinder’s farm by Belleville looked at his hiefers [sic], has 2 nice ones there, then we went in there to see him & bought the 2 delivered for $28.00. When we came home Henry & family came they had been here, went out to Aunt Mary’s awhile, & came back here again.

We washed. Leona & Billy [Willis] came she helped quilt all day, had dinner & lunch. Christ Buehler came, looked at our ten chicken coops & bought them all for $12.00 – 12 of them. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came went to Belleville & E. St. Louis, papa went along as far as Belleville, looked at horses there; came back had supper here. We went to Red Bud to church; Jack McDermott told us that Willie Doyle’s had twins & boy & girl born today; 5½ & 6½ Red Bud Hospital.
