Awful hot. Ironed, patched. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came for church pinic [sic], they have to be in winner stand. J. Keller came got eggs, tomatoes; we went up to pinic [sic] this eve. Ray Wittenauer won set dishes. Doval Eichenseer 48 lbs. flour. Alice Hess – 100 sugar, Elmer Haudrich taspestory [sic – tapestry] quilt to Mrs. Burke St. Louis, awful crowd, Smithton band, played musci [sic] . Leo & Rose [Rosalia] & baby [Marita] came this eve; pinic [sic]. Mrs. Merhmann came wanted eggs. Chas. Dougherty (Elvira Haudrich) have twins, Aug. 5. girl & boy; 6 3/4 lbs. each; 1st. set of twin that Dr. Werth & Helwig caught; doing fine now.

Friday, Feb. 19, 1937

Pap hauled in straw. Rose came down, helped quilt all day, had dinner here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came to stayed awhile by Bikners this afternoon, Lena came here last night wanted to get him to come up, but they weren’t home, so she called Frieda to come up last nite. Pap got the mail; not much in the paper, Gilbert Dinan of Ames had twins born Sun; she is formerly Hilda Pretzilk – Franks daughter. The light bill is the same again $1.47 for Jan; same as last month.

We went to first mass at Waterloo, Henry got up again today. Went out to Aunt Mary’s had dinner & supper, Miss Jo Keller was out to came here in evening, got eggs, went up to Maniers Park, 4H Club girls dance, Jos paid our way in, & Boy! what a time, & hot. Novelty Nite Hawks orch. of Belleville. Walter Pours called there babies Leo & Louis twins.

Sunday, July 14, 1935

Went to 7 o’clock mass at Waterloo. Gus Edler came paid Int. for Uncle Fred. New Hanover Ball team playing Hecker this afternoon here. We went out to Uncle Freds had supper there. We send a film of pictures away yesterday to Ray’s Potho [sic – Photo] Service at LaCross [sic] Wis. Walter Pour’s have twin boys born 9:30 this evening; second set twins; 9 children.

We washed. Leona & Billy [Willis] came she helped quilt all day, had dinner & lunch. Christ Buehler came, looked at our ten chicken coops & bought them all for $12.00 – 12 of them. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came went to Belleville & E. St. Louis, papa went along as far as Belleville, looked at horses there; came back had supper here. We went to Red Bud to church; Jack McDermott told us that Willie Doyle’s had twins & boy & girl born today; 5½ & 6½ Red Bud Hospital.

Papa strawed the potatoes this morn. this afternoon he went out to help Ettling fix the bridge on his road. It was in the paper Waterloo yesterday that Zeno Mendel barber of Waterloo have a little boy born last Sat. at the Red Bud hospital. They now have 2, a boy & girl. The twins of Emil Quernheim born on leap year where babtized [sic] Sun, Paul & sponsor Mr. & Mrs. Aug. Bodebach cousins, & Margaret, sponsors, Olga & Edna [unclear] Quernheim sisters of Emil. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to stay overnight in Hecker, they came over here, they where at Belleville this afternoon & brought us each a dress goods along.

Today is Eddy Brand’s birthday in Albama [sic]. We set 3 hens last night & the incubator. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, she helped to quilt, & he worked in there garden. Bertille was over at Renneckers to get the paper to see about Hy. Frischkorn having sale tomorrow. There was a man around trying to sell chicken medicine, we didn’t buy any. the Eicheneseer’s boys was down & looked at our little pigs & chickens. Seen in the Waterloo paper that Emil Querheim had twins a boy & a girl born 9 clock on Feb. 29 leap year, they have 4 – 2 boys & 2 girls. Alois Havey have a child born in the hospital at St. Louis & Hy. Eichleman Jr. have a little boy, the first born.
