Friday, Nov. 15, 1935

Cloudy, rainy. Mehrmann got 3 doz. eggs. 30¢ doz. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in, they went to Waterloo. It is in the Times that Ralph Rausch now works in Kroger store at Belleville; also the Wedding of Haudrich & Daugherty going on a honeymoon to Chicago, then make there home at Ridgwood Mo. Miss Vera Grasse & Jim Mueller were married at 6 o’clock by Rev. Kochheim at the home of the bride’s parents, were they were also remarried on there wedding anniversary on Nov. 12; she had 3 showers; kitchen, miscellaneous, & groceries, & was given a mix master & ice cream freezer in the Hughes home. Mueller is secretary at Farm Bureau office.

Monday, Nov. 4, 1935

Raining all day. A Midwest truck driver fell asleep driving & ran off the road on the other side of John Brauns house in the ditch & upset, took so long to get them out, lot town people went down; to see it. Alsace Eckert had a accident yesterday at Belleville, she was cut in the face, & car is a total wreck, they said. Harold Wagner was here & drove his pigs in our yard, they had just bought them, & got out & ran away on them, were out on the hard road by Meng’s lane, he was looking for them all morning. Surely is raining something terrible going around in the north, getting colder, yesterday we had the doors open, we went to bed early; this evening.

Thursday, Oct. 31, 1935

Halloween. Leona came & got the boy’s; they came home from the wedding, about 12 o’clock, Hilda’s dad didn’t come over; in the evening. Gus, Dan & Geo. Geodelle’s families were there, & Mrs. Susenwind & family were there all day; swell supper & beautiful cakes, 2 kegs beer. Started painting the houses, window frames today; Pap went to Red Bud got oil & things, chick feed. Walter & Hilda got 1 bedroom no kitchen, furniture from Querheim. Henry brought load corn. We went to Belleville. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, she won a quilt last night, playing 1 gamelotto.

Monday, Oct. 28, 1935

We washed, cloudy day. Papa is making axe handles. Henry brought load corn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped a little while just came from Belleville. Rain again this evening. John Whitesides & Hilda Boll have a little baby boy 10½ lbs. Hugo Probst’s are going to call there boy Wayne; Lena said. Mrs. Emil Bestman is in Red Bud Hospital, appendix trouble.

Monday, Oct. 21, 1935

Rained last nite, cloudy today, we washed, ironed; cleaned basement etc. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Belleville; came here brought a berry set along for us to give to Norma Geodelle’s wedding next Wed. Bernice got 1 doz. eggs. Rose cut herself a dress & sewed it this afternoon.

Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1935

We cleaned front & bedroom today, little cloudy & rainy. Schwarz from Mound Ill was here selling apples we took 2 bus. 75¢. winesaps Roman Beautys & 1 bu. twigs 65¢, half for Leona. Uncle Ret’s [?] birthday. Al Gauen came & got 2 hams 24½ lbs. 35¢ & ½ bu. sweet potatoes 50¢. Berti baked molasses cookies. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Belleville to Breautigams funeral from Gunlack chapel to cemetery. Papa used mullin leaves this evening for the first time.

Monday, Oct. 7, 1935

We washed, ironed; cleaned chicken houses, put in straw, clean garden & flower beds, so cold dalias [sic] & froze last night we took them in; Papa burned potatoe [sic] straw & weeds. Rose & Berti went out to Uncle Fred’s, got Mullin leaves for papa to use; they got some from doctor at Belleville. Mr. John Breautigam – Clara Birkner’s husband died last night of T.B; was sick so long.

Tuesday, October 1, 1935

Beautiful day; Church pinic [sic] at Columbia, we have chances for that 110 pc. dinner set, 100 lb sugar, 2 pr pillow cases, cedar chest, quilt; Catholics got euchre & dance at Paderborn tonite Hillsheim & Braun wedding, 9 o clock mass. Uncle Fred, & Aunt Mary came & her & Bert went to mass. Walter Pour’s twin boy ring bearer & Doris Braun her sister flower girl dressed in blue; then came Cecilia Pour, dark green. Velvet dress & hat & flowers, she was maid of honor; bridesmaid Alvera had purple velvet dress & had, both had silver shoes; her oldest sister; then the bride with white satin dress & long veil, carrying lilly [sic] of Valley boquet [sic]; groom & his brother best man came in at the sanctuary, dark blue suits, they showered them with rice; lot people in church, Jatho’s all through [sic – throw] rice too, he used to board there; he works St. Louis Dairy here; all kind of ribbons & tin cans, card boards hanging on. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went along to the wedding dance at Maniers Hall, nice crowd, Mellow Moon Orh. of Belleville played; a rose was given to all the ladies; & slipper was sold $1.25 & collection was taken up for pay expense. “Let Me Call You Sweeheart [sic] waltz” was playing for bride & groom; she received an awful lot of presents. Manier sold the bar & sandwiches at the park outside. Henry was here all day harrowing, had lunches & dinner. Clara Wagner & Mamie Eichenseer got flowers slips here; we planted some more out to.

Monday, Sept. 30, 1935

We washed, ironed, patched. The Ladies Aid of the Evangical [sic] Church is giving a euchre party at Kammler’s Hall tonite. Werner Kammler is hauling coal in for Geo. Wagner. Al. Eckert had a accident in Belleville Fri. night, fender, & wheel smashed, to the corner to fast & upset on curbing, has the car fixed now. Milton Wagner’s called there little boy Darwin & Geo. Lorbergs called there girl Romona. Rose & Bert went to Waterloo, took papa watch in again & left it there for awhile now; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went to the euchre, Uncle had 11 & got sauce pan, & Bert had 10 got little rug; not much of a crowd, & no prizes, 7 euchre tables.

Thursday, Sept. 26, 1935

Rain all day. No Sparta fair today. Ed Pabst brought the potatoes this morning; quite a few, about 8 bus. Rose sewed a jumper for Billy. Loyd Pabst & Alvin Voges is working in the Eagle Stove Foundry at Belleville now.
