Friday, Oct. 28, 1932

A fellow around today selling fish, we didn’t buy any. Bertille got the mail, seen in the paper that Clara Schulmeister & Hy Gentsch Jr. where married since last Feb. 22, at Kentucky, & Bernice Maus & Louis Wahlaus where married last Sat, & left for a honey moon trip to Ottowa Ill. Henry & Floyd where here awhile, they where up at Belleville, & got coal, Floyd got a pair of shoes. The Meeting Democratic that was to be held at Kirsch School last Tues was posponed [sic] account of the rain, & will be held tonite. There is also a play at Red Bud given by the Legion.

Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1932

It is cloudy, & raining all day. Bertille went over to Rennecker’s got the papers. See in there Daily Advocate that Robert Groom Jr. & Mary Louis Sterling where married at Carlinville on July 31, it was kept a secret till now. Mr. Groom is going to a miner School in St. Louis, when he has finished that they will make there home with Mr. & Mrs. Bob Groom West A St. Belleville. It is also in the paper that Fr. Grootens has paroled 2 boy out of jail, Chas. Burke the first one he had here & Tackett both of Belleville, they held up a filling station.

Saturday, Oct. 22, 1932

Papa got crushing done this morn. Mr. John Wiegard 30 & Mamie Kleber 21 are getting married today at Smithon [sic], with Fred & Dorthy as best, sister to the bride, & brother of the groom. They are having a dance at the Brick House, but we aren’t invited. George Boll & Ike Napier where going around selling hog meat today, we didn’t take any on account Henry butchering; he sold pork saussage [sic] & hams for 12½ & the rest for 10¢, so did Henry. Mrs. Stauenfbiel came over to see if she could ride down with us to Red Bud in the morning, she wants to go to church there.

Sunday, Oct. 16, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile. Mr. Bectholdt from Smithon [sic] was here & got his 6 pigs for $20.00. We went out to George Boll’s to shooting match but didn’t win anything, ducks & geese where raffled. We went to church this eve, talked with Marcella & boy’s Fahey’s. Mrs. Fahey is still awful weak. The St. Augustine’s Parish have euchre tonite. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Birkner are married 3 yrs. today.

Friday, Oct. 14, 1932

We fixed a gravel walk out to the chicken yard, & also brick & filled up around it. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here with us, soup, salmons, sweet potatoes. Papa & Rosalia went out & got a load of gravel. We went out to Uncle Fred’s tonite & got some flowers to plant along side of our walk. We got the Waterloo paper & took it along. Hy. Ronnerberg came a while too. Seen in the paper that Herbert Hill – Chas. Boy & Pearl Fischer, – Hy. Fischers girl where married last Sat. at Nashville, she is 17 & him 19, they live with Chas. Hills. Cyrus Hill have a little baby boy born last Sat. at St. Clements Hospital at Red Bud, they have a boy & girl.

Tuesday, Oct. 4, 1932

Bertille went over to Rennecker’s to exchange papers this afternoon. Henry brought a load of corn up this afternoon. Chas Jung got 30 doz. eggs 20¢. Rosalia sewed jumper for papa. Iromme Rapp is going to Red Bud High School started this week. Geo. Pautlis Jr. had a wedding dance at his home last Sat. night, he married Eliza Roberts from New Florence Mo. Miss Frances Doyle & a guy from St. Louis got married last Sat. Papa took the cream up to Eichenseer’s shipped it over to St. Louis to the Blue Valley Creamery have to pay him 25¢ to take it over, we had 8 lbs on our scale. Bertille got the can again this evening.

Friday, July 8, 1932

Rosalia & Bertille & Leona & the kids went to Waterloo this morning we took 3 bus. of potatoes got 60¢ at Connor’s. Rosalia went to dentist McConnell. We stopped at Geodell’s. Gambach’s store is opened now, they are checking & working books, & goods in the store. Elmer Kammler’s barber have a little boy since yesterday, they now have two boys. We went digging potatoes again this afternoon. Fridolin Bersche jeweler at Waterloo & Miss Lucille Lotz of Columbia where married last Sun, afternoon in Columbia, they left for a honeymoon trip to Peoria, & will make there home in Columbia by the bride’s grandmother.

Saturday, May 28, 1932

Papa went down to see Hy. Armstutz, this morn, to see if he could get the team & mower, so this afternoon he got it & cut all his hay & cheat [?] of. Henry & Emil where here & got a hog. Mr. Biebel & 3 more guys from Belleville where here & looked at the colt, he would give $65. There where 3 more fellows here, 2 from Jennington Mo. & the other from Cowell’s place & looked at the colts. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where at Monroe City at a sale. Mrs. Wilde. We went out to their place this evening, listened to the radio, dances all over to nite, Bill Sensel’s, Nic Cortner’s barn dance, Weber’s Wedding dance in Dab’s Clubhouse by Smithon [sic], Hy. Weber & Mary Crowk. I seen Arthur Stehl & Anna Herzog license in the paper, 27 & 21. Papa went to Hy. Armstutz & got the team, & mower, & took it back agin [sic] this evening.

Today is birthday Henry’s 28 yrs. old & also the 4th wedding anniversary. We went out this evening, ice cream, cake where served to the following: Mr. Gus Geodelle & family, Henry Birkner’s family, Albert Cleveland’s family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary. George Wagner got a fork here this morn. to straw potatoes at Chas. Wagner’s.

Sunday, May 22, 1932

We went to Red Bud. Levi Gregson came here a little while, the rest where at church. George Wagner’s family prepared dinner, chicken, etc. & took it all down to Chas. Wagner, 25 Silver Wedding Ann. the whole relation, when it was supposed to be a surprized [sic], but I don’t think it was, they found it out. Three fellows from St. Joe where here & looked at the colts. We all went over to Stere’s & sat on his porch, the sun got too hot on ours. This eve, we went out to Uncle Fred’s, Chris Buehler’s family also came, we at popcorn, beer, & water.
