We washed, finished our quilt. Uncle Fred & Berti went to Waterloo, he got his car inspected & all greased; they had dinner here, chicken. We got 100 lb. flour & laying mash.

Beautiful day. Bill Fritsche look & fix our furnace. Pap went up in woods, got load corn fodder. Frank Kroll wanted to see him, about lots at cemetery, so he had to go out there. Henry Schaefer of Waterloo died, to be buried tomorrow, at Hecker cemetery. Fr. Aydt to have mass at Waterloo at 10′ o clock then out to cemetery, there is 3 funeral masses at Waterloo, 2 are Stackels, one being Hy. Emery’s father in law, & Schaefer. Joe Gregson & Lester bought 2 acres of land from Wil. Harbaugh, $800.00, going to operate & build a filling station, it is already staked of. We went to Belleville this afternoon, pap went to dentist again.

We went to Waterloo, took wall paper back, went to Hawson’s sale, didn’t buy anything, junk. Jerome Meng & Gundlack from bottoms was here, looking for drill. Henry & Floyd brought load corn up. Billy [Willis] isn’t feeling well.

Mission Sun. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here awhile. Omer brought 2 fish here this afternoon & boy we had fish fry, sure were good, couldn’t eat it all. People from South of Red Bud looked at the heifers. E. Rieso & W. Mueth have birthday dance at Pautlers. The Hecker bank was sold at Public Auction in Waterloo, Court House last Sat. Yesterday Ed. Weber bought the building $500. Articles that was in it & safe Burkhardt of Red Bud got for $35.00 & 80 acres farm. Wolf real estate agent got $1300 & 40 acres Weber $800.

Pap went out sewing wheat again with the spring wagons. Rose took load wheat to Waterloo $1.13, we helped Leona, washed & stretched curtains; no school today Teacher meeting. We had dinner out there. Wheat is $1.13 that is what we got. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon. A Hucksteer [sic? – huckster], from Red Bud was here comes every Thurs. has fruit & vegetables, we bought bananas. Budde got our old radio, took it to Guker’s at Red Bud; we kept his Philco electric, on even trade.

Beautiful day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner. Butch Fisher of Waterloo looked at the heifers, to high priced. We went to Floraville to a free dance, musci [sic] by Schmidts of Red Bud.
Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1936
Pap harrowed for Chris Buehler, in our field. Mr. Emil Geodelle plaster of Waterloo fixed the front room ceiling, finished at Kemps to. Pap & Rose went to Belleville, he got 3 teeth pulled, at Dr. Wagners. Omer & Bertie went to St. Louis to Emil’s, seen the Veil[ed] Prophet parade, was real nice, had 20 floats, different states & bands etc. It rained this afternoon. Hecker Catholics had euchre party tonite in school hall, 26 tables; quite few from other place they say.

John Wittenauer looked at the drill; also John Schilling. Pap went to see Roland’s & Geo. Boll. Jerome Meng was here, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up to. The Waterloo paper says Jac. Schmidt is resigned at the National Bank, & will now work as vice pers. of State Bank there.
Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1936
Cloudy this morn. but Sun shining now, getting cooler. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here went to Waterloo to get wall papers. Vic Eichenseer came & got there radio again this afternoon, no trade yet. Mr. Odello Eichenseer & Dorthy Meyer are being married at Belleville at St. Threasa [sic] this morning; wedding dance at Daab’s Club House tonite, we are invited to attend; & we went. Schmidts Merry Makers played; her twin sister Doris & friend best & Mamie maid of honor, & Cyril; usher; wasn’t a very large crowd; drinks beer & cake free.
