Went to mass, 7:30 from now on. Ettling from Floraville looked at horses. Leo & Rose came, had dinner & supper here. Gusta Dudenhoeffer & Margaret were here short while, out at Maniers dropped down see how we all were. Pete Matzenbacher had shooting match this afternoon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to Paderborn Totsch’s free dance & fish fry, Rheinhardt & Schoenborn, Geodelle & Bocker musci [sic] Och. large crowd. there is free opening dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill by A. Josten of Valmeyer who now has charge, Mr. & Mrs. Maul moved back to St. Louis. KMOX Radio Stars playing at Oak Grove.

Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1937

Ironed curtains & patched; had chicken soup dinner. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came scrubbed upstairs this afternoon; went to Red Bud. We went to Leo’s & Rose this eve; busy working in the field. Isd. & dad & mother [Orlet] had accident Sat. eve. at Belleville, car coming from Monroe St. came on Ill. St. without stopping & hit Isd. car, the bumper is damaged & also window shield; all shattered, no one hurt but Mr. Orlet flew from back seat to the front, was unconsious [sic] for awhile, but nothing serious I suppose they didn’t see them since it happened. Isd. was out Sat.

Friday, October 1, 1937

Cleaned room & hall finished upstairs, only washing to do. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon fixing his basement. Pap hauled 3 loads wood today with truck. Henry brought load corn. Sure hot today. Bersche brought our sewing machine all fixed $3.50 & also took Rose [Rosalia] to there place $18.50. all varnished. Mrs. Mehrmann got 5 doz. eggs. yesterday 22¢. Wheat in paper $1.02.

Thursday, Sept. 30, 1937

Bert [Bertille] cleaned 2 rooms upstairs. Pap cooked beef soup dinner; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, had dinner here, finished papering & cleaned his truck patch, pap helped him this afternoon worked it up with horse; had lunch with them, stayed for eve. awhile. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came brought cream down, going to ship it over with Buehler, then going to start hauling milk again, only not getting best price. Schmidt brought sack wagone [sic] laying mash started feeding it today. Leo & Rose also down last nite.

Saturday, Sept. 25, 1937

Rained last nite, pretty nice shower. Henry stopped in, got crushing done. H. Wittenauer working on the land. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were here. We went to Waterloo church, & Columbia to see Hermann. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were also at Waterloo, bought second hand sewing machine from Bersche for $18.50 delivered in good condition Singer, it doesn’t make a bit noise, runs smooth. Miss Amelia Kroll died Thurs. eve. at hospital from operation on gall stones, will be buried Mon. morning at Hecker church, & Waterloo cemetery. she & her mother kept house together here, her mother is blind.

Friday, Sept. 24, 1937

Went out to Henry’s got load wheat took it to Waterloo 97¢. brought some along home for crushing tomorrow; we also took our sewing machine along it, getting it repaired doesn’t sew. Electric bill was 8 hrs. this mon; little more light then last mon. Pap went to see John this afternoon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in went to Red Bud to Buehler’s, & junk pile gathering some old junk. Dr. Hatz of Waterloo dentist, is building a new house Waterloo Park sub division contract by Osterhage Builders. Siedle building gone for Teonges west of railroad tracks, lot of houses going up again in Waterloo. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down awhile this evening; lights went out for awhile.

Sunday, Sept. 19, 1937

Went to Red Bud; Fr. prayed for the sick of the parish. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came had dinner here, brought samples of apple butter, tastes pretty good; they went out to Henry’s this afternoon, get haircut. Floraville have church pinic [sic] & annual home coming today. there is Holy Name Society Rally held at Mascoutah today, for all parishes. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came about 3:30 o’clock, Bert [Bertille] went along to Floraville pinic [sic], till about 9 came home again, didn’t win nothing raffled 7 quilts, went to Waterloo, Millsdadt [sic], Belleville & St. Louis.

Thursday, Sept. 16, 1937

Bert [Bertille] went to Leo’s cooked apple butter; mother [Leo’s mother] & A. [Aunt] Mary came this afternoon; she got 16 gals. Tolin looked at stock. Eichenseers hauled in 200 bu. coal.

Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1937

Pap went to barber shop. Bert [Bertille] baked cookies. Mr & Mrs Clyde Pautler nee Arma Marie Parker, have a little baby girl born last week; also Ed Coop have baby boy; Else Pautler formerely [sic] & Willie Kreheres have baby girl. Ida Schinerbach marriage license was announced on radio last nite. We went to Leo’s this afternoon had lunch & supper peeled apples afternoon & evening Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Isd. & mother came yet to & helped 34 gals. we peeled. Fr. Joe’s birthday 34.

Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1937

Bert [Bertille] went out to Henrys got damson plums, canned 8 qts. & cooked jelly; caned [sic] peaches, the last now, have them all picked, cooked catsup; planted out flowers etc. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up. Luhrs Hatchery man & Geo Luhr. were here pap had bought a second hand feeder but he found out it, wasn’t much good so they bought a French Feeder, $34.75 better than the other, rain won’t hurt it any. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came want to peel apples tomorrow nite; for them & Orlets.
