Pap 58 birthday, but he is sick, can’t walk much, Rose & Bert went to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came she brought roast along for dinner, boy had a real dinner. Herman Kettler & son of Paderborn came & invited us to his barn dance tonite, a new one just been build & Elmer Parker & Omar Schilling are giving a free dance at Paulter tonite, musci [sic] by Scheonborn, Schaefer & Schilling & Boy the crowd. They have a play in the school hall here, “Home Town Girl” was the name of it; we didn’t get to see it; same boys were in it.

Pap & Rose took load wheat 86¢ to Waterloo & got chick mash. Rained last nite a shower; but not near enough. Irene Reheis of Belleville & her piano pupils are having a recital & dance at Hotel Belleville tonite, & there is a euchre in the school hall here given by the Holy Name Society; just everything, in one nite. We planted flower seed nasturiums [sic]. Friedrich of Belleville was here agent for paint, alumium [sic] $2.95 gal. delivered. Pap went out on business. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he stayed across the street, has a bad cold, he went to bed over there. Rose & Bert went along with her to the euchre in school hall, she got a broom, we didn’t get nothing.

Nice day. Porter Braun Chev. sales agent was here and pap went along to Uncle Freds; Wm. C. Voges was here wanted to buy oats but said 40¢ bu. was to much. Austin McDermott, comitteman [sic] on the A.A.A. project was here yesterday evening; getting the people to sign. Pap & Uncle Fred went to Belleville then to New Athens, Chev. Dealers; & we Aunt Mary went out to Henry’s to see Floyd he is sitting up now; drawing pictures. We went to Oak Grove tonite to J. Cody’s farewell dance, free, big crowd present; he is going to start farming on his place again & Joseph of Bursksville is coming at Oak Grove, going to have opening dance May 10, they say. Chas. Guebert south of Hecker, died this morn; blood poisoining [sic], just since Easter Sun. will be buried Tues. afternoon, Round Prairie Cemetery, he was middle aged.

Pap went out & helped Henry bring his mares up; brought 1 along to leave here, so he could plow a few patches. Pap went to Dr. A. Wagner’s sale this afternoon, selling all things. Congratulations was heard on the radio, german band for Arthur Mehrmann by sisters & brothers of Floraville, & for Mary Wagner of Belleville by Bernice, Charles & Melvin Wagner of Hecker. Sam Mosio has a free dance & fish fry, tonite music by Webers Bros. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here, he is hauling rock again & she stayed here. Mamie Eichenseer came down awhile. Manier has fish fry.

Hauling logs all day. Uncle Fred helped to, they had dinner here. Aunt Mary & Rose went over to Minnie’s fixing her dress, Rose smocked it. Leona brought Floyd to the Dr; cut his hand in chopping box, fingers nearly of [sic – off]; took him to the hospital at Belleville, to see what they could do. Gus Geodelle went along in, she stayed there with the boy’s. Henry Birkner’s, Glenn fell from L. Birkner’s sink in Hecker here Sun, & bit his lip & tongue in through, & had to take it also to hospital & have it clamped together. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening.

A man here wanted to rent Uncle’s house across the street for a dentist office; he came from Millsdadt [sic] – they won’t rent. Martha Boll gave us a visit for about 1 hr ½ this eve. Miss Luella Koerber of Floraville, is having a birthday dance at Paulters tonite, & boy what a crowd. Gents 25 ladies free, Rythm [sic] Kings played pretty good musci [sic], & crowd. Lot from Hecker.

Went to 8 o’clock service at Red Bud; then again at 12 till 3 o’clock, there are Devotions. Felicia Rascow came along up to Hecker, with us yesterday to got to Mrs. Staufenbiel, & went along back to Red Bud with us this morning. Roth of Brickey was buried at Round Praire [sic] cemetery this afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. Leo Kohler of Waterloo have a baby girl born at St. Marys Hospital.

Pap went out & helped Henry sew oats, had dinner. A fellow from West of Waterloo was here wanted to know the road to Uncle Freds, he wanted to buy a wagon etc, but he never got out there; They were up this afternoon, making a garden, also did we, planted out onions, lettuce peas, radishes, & helped Aunt Mary with there garden, she took ½lb. butter along. Eggs are 15¢ today at the store here. Windergast barn & shed in the blackjacks burned down today; the Hecker fire department was called, but Waterloo was there about 10 mins before, so they did the work; they were burning weeds, & the wind took a spark on the old shingle roof on the barn, & started in to burning; the fire department here, went the wrong way. We sewed oats in the chicken yard; sure nice weather now.

Rose went out to Henry’s with the wash; sure wonderful weather. Bernice brought the mail. The parish in Hecker have mission for a week now.

We put quilt in the frame, Herzog fruit tree agent was here. Nice day; Eggs. 19¢ sure some drop. Paderborn had euchre & dance tonite. Mrs. Ahrens died last nite, will be buried Wed. afternoon; the oldest person, living in Hecker. Was a bum here this morning, asked for a piece soap.
