Lincoln’s birthday. We went out to Henry’s butchering; killed 2 hogs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped too. Clara Wagner brought the cheese dish back, & ordered butter again. Raining tonite. The Altar Sodality is having a euchre tonite in school hall; we didn’t go. There is a masquerade ball in Smithon [sic]. Miss Adelle Probst & Floyd Quirin were married at Millsdalt [sic] this morning; her mother nee (Mary Henkel), a private reception at Daabs Club House. Schoenborn, Schaefer & B Schilling muscianers [sic] playing for the dance. Iowa is having terrible weather 25 below zero; people dying from cold, eggs raised 6¢ there. Mr. Otto Wagner of near Red Bud died yesterday will be buried Fri morning 9:30 at Catholic Church & cemetery, Clarence dad.

Henry & Emil & Grover putting up hay; had lunch dinner lunch; made 11 loads. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here a little, then went to the pinic [sic]. We went this evening, to the Catholic Church pinic [sic], but didn’t win a thing; large crowd. K C Band; Aunt Mary was lucky got pillow cases, & tea kettle, & Uncle Fred won the $10.00 chance first in book, Miss Mary Ann $5.00. Maria Braun $2.00 Jennie Coop bedspread Emma Birkner tapestry rug; Schroeder of Waterloo won ton coal & L. Dalkert a fancy quilt, the rest, rug & flour, gas went to Belleville. Willie & Jack Ganley had a razzling for a while, Jack wanted to fight with Hy Birkner, Ben Schilling took him down town; went home then.

We washed, ironed. Ruma has Catholic Church pinic [sic] today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we all left about 5 o’clock went to the pinic [sic], nice crowd in evening, Prairie Du Rocher band. We stopped at Red Bud, bought fruit jars 2 doz; Aunt Mary sold Ja Earle book chances $1.00 for the Hecker Church pinic; on Aug. 28 Fr. Witte wouldn’t take none.

Predigar is being buried at New Athens Catholic church & cemetery from the home of his grandmother Weber’s. Steve Renneckers Agnes Gregson’s birthdays today. We went berry picking after lunch got about 7 gallon’s; gave some to Henry’s & Aunt Mary. had dinner at Henry’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, had lunch here. We canned 2 qts berries & made the rest in jelly. Rose & Bert went to Mamie’s this evening, went sightseeing through town. Ivo Buehler was brought home from the hospital today, is pretty good.

Henry & family came up 5:30, him & papa went horse trading to Okawville, Red Bud etc; had lunch, dinner & supper. Rain this afternoon & warm. Wagners kids were over. Catholic church pinic [sic] at Dupo, today, we have chances to win $125.00 cash & $30 quilt, 4 times. raffling. Eggs 19¢. Berti bought 1 bar soap & got a chance to win a water set by Mertz store. Rained all nite.

We went out to Uncle Freds picked 1½ gal. berries, made jelly, had lunch there. Papa went out to Henry’s helped set up schrocks. Mr. Ralph Neff 25 & Annie Dietz 24 were married Sat. June 16 at Catholic Church in Waterloo, Celestine, bridesmaid, & Herman Diez groomsmen; they are going to live in St. Louis; were he is employed.

Papa got some whey. The Catholic Church of Ruma have pinic [sic] today. Burcham was around selling watermellons [sic] from 5¢ on up. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here awhile, they went down to Joe Gregson’s to get some pullets. Rosalia hemmed Aunt Mary’s pillow cases for the pinic [sic], & stamped them ready to stitch. It rained this afternoon. Papa sowed another patch alfalfa the morn.

We went to Waterloo to Elizabeth Freund & Frank Kruse got married at the Catholic Church, Creses & his brother where best. We took our eggs to the Monroe Hatchery also this morn, they pay 5¢ above St. Louis price. Papa went out to Henkel’s to fan clover seed afternoon. We sure are having beautiful weather.
