Cool wind this morn. Sheutte by Waterloo died, the man, that Mrs. Sheutte insane, put poison in there food. A free dance at Donahue’s musci [sic] by Nite Hawks & a free wedding dance in Pautlers Hall, musci [sic] by Moonlighters tonite. This morning about 10:30 Irvin Buehler, 7 yr old son of Chris Buehler, was struck unconsious [sic], while playing with tires on the hard road, in front of Parker’s house, they were all there helping with threshing, the driver of the car, was Frank Schwartz of R.R.1 Belleville. Irvin was brought to Hecker to Dr. Eckert & then the ambulance was called & taken to Belleville hospital, where he is still the same, fractured head & back & wrenched leg. The car nearly hit Cletus to. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & papa went to Hyde sale in Red Bud, who lives in John Rennecker’s house, bought a few articles. Henry & Leona went to Belleville, left kids here, bought new shoes & dress. this evening took us along, kids stayed here, went to Pautler Pavillion, Kopp’s Wedding dance; pretty large crowd. Donahue’s was nothing some said. Boy! did Walter Reheis feel good!

Two & three years today of Hy Braun’s death & also Virgil Parkers, Papa & Rosalia hauled water from the cistern out for the pigs, in the barel [sic]. Water is getting pretty low, everywhere at present. Mrs. Rennecker was here awhile. Oscar Klotz finished his run today, pulled home.

Washed a few pieces; Mr. Rennecker was here awhile. A man around selling bonnets 35¢ & few other articles. Papa & Rosalia went out & hauled cheat wheat for him, chicken feed. It is awful hot today. Mr. & Mrs. George Parker have a little baby boy born yesterday on Oscar Birkner’s birthday also. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary called here awhile this evening. The new fire engine was to be tryed [sic] out tonite, George Wagner’s went to watch the performance. Chas. Hill has his house build on a truck now, & have the car here to, staying by Hill’s here at present, then will leave later, house isn’t all finished in side yet, they have stored the rest of furniture etc., with Horn & Hill’s.

Went out threshing again, had them for lunch, carried it out, & had dinner & lunch again, then left for Levi Ganley’s. Papa & Rosalia were hauling wheat all day, taking it home in chicken house. Henry threshed 1085 bus. wheat, we got 361 bus.; one of his fields average 24 bus. to an acre. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had to leave & go threshing by Henry & Oscar Birkner. It got awful cloudy & rained a little, in Jacksonville, Ill: there was an awful Tornado $75,000 damage. & in Smithon [sic] it was pretty bad, trees all torned [sic] to pieces, houses over roofs off. It looked awful black in the north. Eggs were 9¢ but now up to 11.

We went out to Henry’s, got ready for threshing, washed, had lunch dinner. The thresher got there about 1 o’clock, had to carry lunch up to the field; had supper, 4 men stayed that is all; this year. Papa hauled the wheat home; our share. Henry got Buehler to haul him a 100 bus. to Waterloo got 78¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Mrs. Geodelle were also there. Gus came out in the evening.

We washed, ironed & patched. Papa hauled 4 loads wheat, for our share from Pabsts, got 73 bus; nice wheat. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up towards evening awhile. Mamie birthday. Emil came down & papa paid him for building on barn, 30 hrs & 20. $6.00. Rosalia fed Rennechers chickens yesterday & today, they are threshing at Klotz.

Went to church, Catheral [sic] Belleville at 5:30 mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner with us, spring chicken. Loyd Pabst was here, said they were going to thresh tomorrow. There was a boy 14 yrs. old from Iowa, visiting Ed Rehling’s, was killed instantly, when riding on a byicicle [sic] coming out Rehlings road, onto the hard road, Shloemer Ford Motor man of Waterloo, was coming down the road, & hit him, & upset his car & was hurt somewhat. The Rehling’s were visiting relatives at Waterloo at the time it happened; the first accident on the new hard road. Turner Pinic [sic] in Smithon [sic] today. Mr. Herman Wolf of Red Bud is having a free dance at Oak Grove tonite, Moonlighters playing. We went, & what a crowd, had nice time. Eggs are 9¢, wheat 80¢.

Mr. Rennecker was over, he told us to feed his chickens for him, they went threshing down at Klotz’s. We went to Belleville this afternoon. Went to Donahue’s tonight to Erna Braun’s 18 birthday dance, free Phil Carlis & musci [sic], & a nice crowd. It is also Margaret McDermotts birthday. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary finished threshing at Henry B.

It rained this morning. Meng’s couldn’t thresh, till this afternoon. We baked bread etc. Papa took the Whip to Probsts to get it fixed. The Waterloo paper has that Albert Niebruegge residing 7 miles from Valmeyer, was instantly killed when struck by lightining [sic], last Sat. at 5:30 & also rendered his farm hand unconscious for some time. He was carrying a hoe at the time & had just passed beneath a tree. George Hoffmann, who resides 3 miles east of Waterloo died last Wed. night, aged 61 yrs. illness of 2 weeks. Mrs. Richard Butler (nee Curran) of Burksville passed away last Thurs. June 28, after a long illness, aged 64 yrs; was buried at Waterloo, also funeral with Father Kuhl’s, Nonaghan & Traynor Eschmann, were Deacon & sub deacons; she leaves 7 children & husband Richard at home, & James, & Mrs. Ray Schmidt of Waterloo.

Chas. Wagner’s threshing now. George Emery went on Cliffords place today, he got hurt yesterday, fell from the wagon. Nice an cool this morning. Wm. Wiegand Jr. while going home from threshing, one day nite last week, was hit by John Schaefer of Waterloo, Wiegand had no lights on his wagon, they didn’t notice him, smashed in to him, wagon broke all to pieces, frame & all, he is going to get a new one, & have a reflector put on it now. He wasn’t hurt. Vic Braun came & asked if Klotz could drive through this way over to Mengs; but he came through the alley any way.
