We went to Waterloo church, papa went to see Mertz. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here awhile. Hy. Armstutz & Cleveland stopped in. Surely is warm. We slept all afternoon, went over to Renneckers awhile this evening. They had solemn Coumioun [sic – Communion] at Red Bud, today Irene Buehler’s is along too, she is 11 yrs. old.

Saturday, May 19, 1934

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came helped carpenter, had lunch, dinner, lunch. Henry & family came, left kids, here. Bertille went along with them to Belleville also Mrs. Cleveland went along. Mamie & Lucinda came down awhile, & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we went to the fire Co. dance at Kammler’s Bresacker’s Orc. Adm 25 [cents], but not much of a crowd.

Friday, May 18, 1934

Papa & Rosalia took hogs to Belleville, Bertille made doughnuts. Walter Reheis & Bill Freund’s birthday. The 3 hogs weighed 525 lbs. @ $3.45. Henry was up with the wagon got lawn mower. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, had lunch, supper.

Thursday, May 17, 1934

Emil, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry came this morn, had lunch & dinner; from 7 to 6. Cleveland worked this afternoon, – 1-6. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary left right after dinner, went to Adam Eckerts, Emmies birthday, he went over to see Hy. Kerber, came back here again, had supper. Mr. Rob. Mertz & family stopped on there way to Red Bud, see how far we was with the barn, he is going to put the tin roof on. Rosa sewed my dress today. A gang kids was here selling chances for a quilt to be raffled out after the childrens program, on May 24, we took one – 5¢. Mr. Chas Mehman of Belleville is sick. Hy. Braun of Hecker, worked so hard in the garden, that he is now deaf.

Wednesday, May 16, 1934

Henry, Emil, Cleveland all came again, had lunch, dinner; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary too, they also had supper, the rest not. Emil drove, worked from 7 till 6. Ed Pabst brought the lumber from down there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she went to church, they took us along, out to Ed. Parker’s barn dance, not such a very large crowd.

Tuesday, May 15, 1934

We ironed, patched. Nice again today after the rain. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family, Emil, Mr. Cleveland, were here for lunch, dinner, lunch. Robert got a fish, took it along home. Uncle also for supper, all worked on barn, all standing & nailed shut, on sides; Rosalia cut her a dress out. Aunt Mary was talking to Frieda Bueheler, she told her, they were going to move on Skaer’s place, were Bill Geodelle now lives, he is going to move, on Threfall’s farm; some moving around Oh! Boy.

Monday, May 14, 1934

We washed, hung in basement. Oh! Boy! is it raining, all nite & all day, surely is fine. Mrs. William Klotz is very bad sick, heart trouble. Henry & family came for supper, get tomato plants. Papa took eggs up, got 13¢. Lester Braun’s when going home from work, slipped, & hit the culpirt [sic-culvert], down the road, by Braun’s, he had heard something & looked around, his machine is damaged, the fender is hanging on the tire, Eichenseer’s truck pulled him in; to the garage to get repaired. David Hardy 90 yrs. old died Sat; prominet [sic] land dealer, in & around the vicinty [sic] of Waterloo.

The Sunday School children & parents have basket pinic [sic] at school grounds today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped awhile, then we went out to the cemetery, see Mr. Scheinder, went over to Uncle Freds for dinner. It started to rain, we went home. Mr. Edler came there to see him. Clarence Weigand has a barn dance tonite, 70×30 floor, Rheinhardts musci [sic]. Uncle Adam & Emil stop on there way home, to see if we was going to work at the barn tomorrow; he told us that someone drove over Bert Thompsons heifer on the road, knock it over, but it got up again, but weak; the car didn’t stop; he also told us of a politician meeting in Kammler’s Hall last nite, keg beer treated we knew nothing about it.

A Public sale of household & furniture, top buggy today at Chas. P. Geodelle place 3 mis. east of Waterloo. School election today in town, relecte [sic] a director, Julius Rausch resigned after the other election. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up. Rosalia & her went to Red Bud, she came up. Rosalia & her went to Red Bud, she went to doctor Pautler. Rose got chick mash. A free birthday dance at Donahue’s Inn, tonite, musci [sic] by Blossom City Boys. John Lipperts has another barn dance tonite had one last Sat. night & a large crowd, musci [sic] by Hubers Riverside Orc. Moonlighters play at Dreamland Mrs. Gus Kipping birthday, tomorrow Mothers Day, a free dance given there, musci [sic] by Pals of Harmony. Nice cool day. We went to Donahue’s tonite, & a large crowd. Mr. AuBuchon & his 2 sons & Rahn were the Blossom City Boys.

Mrs. Geo. Kuhn Jr. returned from the hospital with the little boy which was born Apr. 29; they have 2, girl & boy. she was Miss Emily Wiegand. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, we all had lunch together here. Uncle got each 1 box ice cream from Griffins, Oh! Boy was it good. We went out there this evening after the ladder & bucks. Miss Marie Harbaugh, daughter of Wm. Harbaugh of Waterloo became the bride of Mr. Herman Miller, son of Frank Miller, last Sat. May 5 in Catholic Church by Rev. Elmer Schumacher, cousin of the bride at 8 o’clock mass. The bride was attendanted [sic] by 2 sister Irene & Rose, wearing canary & blue silk next, blue hat & carried roses; while Rose wore pink silk net & pink hat, also carried roses. The groomsmen were 2 brothers, Ray & Robert Miller, attired in Oxford Gray. The bride had white satin. In the afternoon the Bridal party left for St. Louis to visit Sister Ann William, so she could see her sisters in wedding attire. The bride is a musci [sic] teacher in piano. He is employed by Quick Meal Stove Co. Mr. John Fisher the heater & plumber business of Waterloo died May 7, 59 yrs. buried Thurs. afternoon. The picture of Mr. & Mrs. James Parker is in today’ Belleville paper, he will be 85 yrs in Sept.
