Rain in showers this morning. Went to funeral, while at cemetery it rained heavy. We had to go to there place for dinner, had all relatives there. Father Weskhamp made such nice sermon; church was full, couldn’t all get in. Pallbearers were newphews, 2 Englerth Boys & 2 Klien & John Mueth & Dominic Rheinhardt. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary had been here went to sale by Waterloo. Emil came got step ladder to fix garage door.

Cold froze hard. 26 degrees guess peaches are done; suppose to be freezing tonite again. Bill [Klein] & sister came, found his dad Dominic Klein dead at 3 o clock in bed; he was 63 yrs old; is at Waterloo till tomorrow morn. Bill said; funeral would be Sat. morning. Bert [Bertille] cleaned front room wall paper; got pictures today all pretty good. Chas. Helfrich came looked at hay. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were by Frank Birkner’s today. The Floraville choir have a play tonite – “District School.”

Cloudy & colder tonite suppose to be 30 tonite, with frost. Bert [Bertille] washed. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in he went to Red Bud she stayed at Buehler’s. Raining a little. A. [Aunt] Mary said that Mrs. Threfall got married to Stoeckel of Waterloo. The Young Ladies have euchre tonite in School Hall. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came here awhile before euchre.

Easter Mon. Went to Waterloo took 12 bus. wheat in @ 65 [cents]. Went to New Hanover to Kettler to get hatching eggs & he never got our card so he had not saved only got 5 doz.; went to Leo’s had dinner there & went & ordered eggs white wyandottes from Rese’s till Wed. Leroy Haudrich & Lorreta Scharf were married a week ago today in St. Louis; had to be married during lent living with his folks now at present, picture was in paper. Alb Cleveland was here wants to work up the wood in woods for 10 [cents] load.

Good Friday. 28 degrees; warmer again for today. Went to church 7 o clock. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in. Pete Hoffmann of near Waterloo died at Querheim Parlor & Mrs. Glessener, Kroll’s sister, passed away to [sic]. Mr. & Mrs. Farbers were here looked at mare. Bert [Bertille] fixed doz. eggs & 9 for A. [Aunt] Mary’s. Went to Red Bud 3 o clock church. heard Fr. Ore Service on radio. Went to Waterloo to see Pete Hoffmann & Mrs. Glessner, they have 3 people laid out, being awful busy all week. Mr. Hill came collected telephone dues. Bert Thompson & family going to move on Weber Farm & Webers moving to New Athens.

Raining this morn. Uncle Fred went to Waterloo get oil changed. Aunt Mary stayed here. Leo & family came Marita stayed, they went to Athens to dentist; had dinner here. Sewed some lettuce & tomatoe seed & peas. Bert [Bertille] fixed curtains upstairs & put up. Received wheat check 1938 – $16.80. Bill [Klein] & Bert went to church.

Cold this morn. Pap took 17 bu. wheat to Waterloo 63 [cents]; went to Odd Fellows Hall electric show. Chas. Stookey & Nichobaun sisters of KMOX were there. Aunt Mary & Bert [Bertille] went to Red Bud to Raffte for permanents Bert got $2. & A. [Aunt] Marys wouldn’t take, color came back again; so she cut them up short. Eggs 15 [cents]. A hair dryer & electric clock was given away at Waterloo today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Bert [Bertille] went Waterloo to show. Marie Kolmer won percolator & Mitchell Electric toaster & hair dryer as attendance prize, large crowd.

Nice day. Went to the funeral of, Tom Crowe at Waterloo, wasn’t very large. Pallbearers were Levi Ganley, Joe Mueth, Fred Reheis, Ben Schilling, Emil Geodelle, Jeff Payne. German band played for a whole bunch of Paderborn. Neff & Karban’s, Cortner’s also for me & Bill Klein, all boys & girls, & said from St. Louis. Alfred May & guy were here this afternoon. We went to Tipton to see Farago. Willie & John Braun were here again for signing & leasing oil ground again. Leo & family & Bill [Klein] came this eve. Bert [Bertille] fixed Roses [Rosalia] hair.

Beautiful day. Pap fixed fence. Bert [Bertille] cleaned 2 rooms upstairs, started in today. Davis of Belleville was here. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, she went quilting, at school hall, he worked garden. Mrs. Stehfest had a stroke this morn. she is pretty sick. Tom Crowe 81 died will be at Quernheims funeral parlor tomorrow funeral Sat. morn. 9 o [clock] at Waterloo.
