Papa went out to get wood, but it was to muddy, couldn’t get there; he was by Uncle Adam awhile, he says he is just the same. Papa went to Red Bud got laying mash; he also was by Henry this morn, & got pay check; hog – it was $23.93 but isn’t settled right yet.

Papa went out to see, how it would be to have wood up, it don’t work; he stopped in at Uncle Adams, a little while, he isn’t feeling well at present, had the doctor, is up & down, priest was out the other day to see him. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Art Schaefer where here for dinner, Art wants to buy hay, he looked at the stack. Mertz paid 26½¢ for eggs today. Warmer today.

Election Day. We washed & ironed. Mrs. Jackel of St. Louis, Ed & Hy. Meng sister died, will be buried this afternoon at Belleville. Mr. John Dehn died last night is now at Dashner’s Parlor at Red Bud; he was operated on last Fri. afternoon, died last night. Mrs. Rennecker’s brother. Mr. & Mrs. Ed Brand left for Ala. this morning 7:30. Mr. & Mrs. Levi Gregson went out to Uncle Adam’s today, Emil was on the polls all day. Papa & Rosalia went up to vote. Henry & Leona came up this afternoon to vote. Report was Democrats won in Hecker.

We made pear preserves canned 2½ pickles. Raining this morning Delmar Watchel’s birthday 3 yr. There is 4 kids going to Blackburn School so far, Robert, 3 yr. & Floyd & Wilkerson, Scrivener, on Pautlers place rides down, with the teacher every day, she brings them all home; Mrs. Kruse is the teacher, lived at Burksville. Mrs. Alice Brand & Lucille left from California Sun. & arrived in Waterloo at 11 o’clock Tues. night, were Kenneth Kemp got them, that is were they are making there home & then go around, see all the folks; was by Uncle Adam’s today.

Mary Fahey of Red Bud & John Dougherty of Renault were published for the 3rd time, wedding mass to be Tues. morning May 8. & Linus Merz of Red Bud & girl from [blank] were published also 3 rd time. Uncle Fred was by Louis Birkner this morning, who is sick with bad cold, fever & chills. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, then we went to Tiptown to euchre party, Aunt & Bertie didn’t play, the rest did, played 6 games. Rose won 5 got jar honey. 13 tables with euchre & pinochle & bunco & 13 prizes. Oh! some euchre; we stopped at Uncle Adam’s on way home, his birthday 85 yrs. old, they had so much company today, Levi & Joe Gregson’s, Lesters & family J. Myersough of Ruma. Papa asked Emil to help build & Cleveland also. Henry is sick, has fever & stomach trouble, got a tooth pulled Sat.

We washed, ironed. Beautiful day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he helped papa with the shed, had lunch, & supper. They had lots company yesterday, Buehler’s family, Frank Birkner’s family, Uncle Adam & Emil. Mr. Hill was here, also Joe Johns, peddler, Frederick Fritsche, Maryanna, wanted setting eggs; we have none. Papa went to Hy. Armstutz got mixing box. The fire men pumped Uncle Fritz’s [aka Uncle Fred – ed.] cistern dry, put it in the tank. Papa went over awhile to help them, some mess.

Holiday. Went to 6 o clock mass at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner; she bought soup beef & bread had dinner here. We took a chance on a stitched quilt at Red Bud, this morn. Mr. & Mrs. Walter Kelley & cousins & neighbor where here on business with regard to Uncle Fred’s. Frank Emery was here bought 20 lbs. popcorn at 4¢ lb; ears & all. We all & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary visited Uncle Adam & Emil this evening.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped a little while. Uncle Adam & Emil where here this afternoon, had supper here. Several people called for eggs, we sold 6 doz. 27¢. Some stopped bought liver & pork sausage. Tolin got ribs. George Wagner is hauling wood up today. Wm. Doyle & Helen Reagen of Tiptown where published second time. Clara Wagner & kids, came over, & bought 2½ lbs. pork sausage 15¢. We went out to Uncle Fred’s to put his meat away, sugar cured.

Uncle Adam is 84 yrs. old today. Bertille is all broken out with the measles or the 48 hr. Freezels as they call them. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner, then we all went to Snook by Waterloo to a sales forclosures [sic] sale by Mr. Metzger, he forclosed [sic] him & sold out. The Hecker All Stars rented a piece of land from us & are working on it today, getting ball ground in order. An Inquest was held at Blackburn’s this afternoon. The Birkner boys where called as jurors, Uncle Fred was called to, but wasn’t at home anymore when they called for him. It is a real nice day & evening. Eggs are only 10¢ at Connor’s today.
