Papa got crushing done this morning. Then he left & went to Waterloo then out to Farbers sale at Daisy Dell; & bought all kind of thrash. Henry came up this afternoon & got his application blank of insurance, auto & took it into Waterloo to see if he could get his money back, tonite Henrys family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where all here, Henry drove the mule, & she brought the car. Aunt Mary brought the cabbage plants along from Jauger’s, & we planted them out, there are nice, but no frost proof, just the early plants; they where also at the sale, bought 2 buckets. We have 4 hens hatching now, so far have 32 chicks. It is awful windy & warm.

Geo. Sensel has sale this afternoon, awful cold, Adolph Schaefer from Waterloo bought the farm & will move out soon. Papa was up town this afternoon, they told him there it was a pretty big crowd at the sale & everything brought a fair price. It started in to snow this morning but not long.

This morning snow fell & cold, it is to be 15 above zero tonight, the paper says. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, they went down to Red Bud to Hy. Frischkorn’s sale, but it was postponed they thought until Sat., he was going to call over the lines then, when he would have it. So she helped to quilt this afternoon. They where here for supper. Geo. Sensel postponed his sale until Wednesday. The paper say’s the heaviest snow of this winter fell this morning. At noon, the sun came out it wasn’t just so bad, but tonight is awful cold. We made fire in the furnace again. Pearl Griffin was operated on last Tues. for appendix, & is getting along nicely so far. They haven’t found Lindy’s baby yet, $50,000 ransom is out for them, if they bring the child back.

Today is Eddy Brand’s birthday in Albama [sic]. We set 3 hens last night & the incubator. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, she helped to quilt, & he worked in there garden. Bertille was over at Renneckers to get the paper to see about Hy. Frischkorn having sale tomorrow. There was a man around trying to sell chicken medicine, we didn’t buy any. the Eicheneseer’s boys was down & looked at our little pigs & chickens. Seen in the Waterloo paper that Emil Querheim had twins a boy & a girl born 9 clock on Feb. 29 leap year, they have 4 – 2 boys & 2 girls. Alois Havey have a child born in the hospital at St. Louis & Hy. Eichleman Jr. have a little boy, the first born.

Bert Thompson was here & looked at our sows again. Papa got crushing done this morning, this afternoon he went to the woods to mark the trees what Ettling should take for posts & then he went down below Waterloo to a sale, bought 45¢ iron & boxes, single trees & such like. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here & then they went to visit Mike Armstutz’s. They stayed up in Hecker.

Mr. Gabriel Schilling was buried last Monday morning at Dalgreen, the relatives from here went down. Papa went to Waterloo this morning, & also to a bankrupt sale near Coxeyville. Bertille took 3 doz. eggs to the store & got 11¢ some price.
Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1932
We washed & hung it in the basement, because the weather is rather disagreeable out. Papa got his hair cut this afternoon. Elmer Kammler said his wife & Mrs. Laut where both down in bed with the flu. Robert Laut paid $400.00 for Wm. Laut’s property here in town. Mr. & Mrs. Laut are already living down in Elmer’s house, they will have sale. Henry was here awhile this evening, he went to Hy. Hepp’s to get some leghorn hatching eggs for 11¢ doz. He say’s the boys have the wooping[sic] cough now. We where going to Red Bud to lent service, but Henry came then made it to later.

We sold 22 doz. eggs at Belleville for $3.44 some 14¢ & 17¢. George Bernius of Smithon is getting buried this afternoon there, also a sale Sieberts too this afternoon. Not such a nice Wedding day for Pearl & Lawrence Matthews. It rained at Belleville but not here. Henry & Leona the kids, came up 4 o clock, the kids stayed all night, we went along with them to Waterloo to Gus Geodell’s then up to Jac. Goedell’s, then out to Foster Pond’s the Wedding dance & an awful big crowd present. His brother & her cousin where best. Irvin Elbrecht have a little boy born today, seen in the paper.

Papa got crushing done this morn. This afternoon we all Bertille rode along with Uncle Fred to Waterloo to Mrs. Geossling’s sale it was held by Louis Gessoling. Mrs. sold her farm of 80 acres, for $2,000,100, so she is going to stay by Louis now, we bought 15¢ worth of the sale, everything went cheap. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Josie Keller where here tonight & played pinochle till 12 o’clock. Uncle Fred got her from Ben Heyl’s.

Today, Mrs. Val Fritsche of E. St. Louis is having sale on the Fritsche farm about 2½ mils [sic] from Hecker, where Joe. Herzog now lives. Also Leo Skaer of Millstadt is having sale, he lives on the Julius Stentcel farm, sale to start at 9 o clock. We all went there. Bertille rode along with Uncle Fred. They had the dinner along, we left there about 4 clock, didnt’ get anything, they had so much to sell.
