Beautiful day. Papa went to Red Bud; we sewed lettuce & cabbage & tomato seed in the hot bed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went along with us to Brezzy Hill, free dance, nice crowd for being so many dances.

Went to church. Went out to Uncle Freds, dinner & supper, played cards. They came up this evening went along with us to Pautlers to a free birthday dance, Cowboys of Rythmn [sic] playing, nice crowd also; stopped at Henrys awhile. It rained, wind, this evening.
Saturday, Feb. 23, 1935
Papa got crushing done. He went out to Geo Roth Jr. sale this afternoon, things brought fair price, he & his family will move to Hirst Place, Nel Rausch place, he is in a very poor condition not able to work. Leona brought the boys up, stayed all night, we went along with them to Waterloo Pautlers, Gus Geodelle gave the dance, had a nice crowd. Al Schneider gave one at Brezzy Hill, wasn’t very much, Moonlight there played.

We butchered 2 hogs, 155 & 200 lbs. Uncle Fred, Henry & family, all helped, had lunch & dinner. Uncle & Aunt also stayed for supper, then in evening went along with us to Pautler’s Hall, dance, musci [sic] by Moonlighters, Gents 25 & ladies free; last dance now before Advent; pretty nice crowd. Hy. Armstutz was here.

Papa got crushing done. Roy Staufenbiel’s boy hasn’t got winter fever, he said he ate dried butter beans, about 40 has already passed through. Mr. Ed Pabst brought 3 sacks potatoes, clover seed & lumber this morning. Hy. Armstutz brought ¹⁄3 corn. It rained a little this morning. but then the sun came, out nice again. Mr. Edwin Neff, sued Jake Orlet & Gus Schaefer for striking him at the dance in Paderborn Tues. night, knocked him in the head broke his glasses, must of been a real fight, the way it is said. Mr. Lawrence Matthews is giving a birthday dance at Pautlers tonite, ladies free.

We took our turnips in. Bernice Wagner got ½ doz. eggs. Papa hauled 2 loads wood. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Josie Keller gave us a short call, then they all left for St. Louis; 500 3 Christy Ave. she took eggs along, she also went down & gave Lizzie Boll a call. The St. Patricks church of Tiptown is giving a fish fry & shooting match tonight at Oak Grove; we went , but didn’t win any; had a dance also, Adm 25. AuBchons [sic] Orc. played. We stoped [sic] at Henry’s.
Monday, Nov. 5, 1934
Bertille’s birthday 20 yr. anniversary. Cleaned furnace, baked. Rosalia sewed dress. The dance given in Kammler’s Hall last night by The Pals of Harmony was nothing no crowd. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family & Mr. & Mrs. Dan Geodelle & family were here this evening, played cards.
Sunday, Nov. 4, 1934
Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came had dinner & supper here, Frank Dudenhoefer came her too told us that they were asked to come out to Manier’s for chicken supper, 5 families were out; he said we should come Wed. or next Sun. Mr. John Dehn was taken to Belleville hospital, operated for appendix and is pretty bad, no visitors allowed; he is 61 yrs. of age. Mr. R. D. Butler of Burksville is in Red Bud hospital, poor condition. We went to Pautler’s to a free for all dance, cowboys of Rythmn [sic], had a wonderful time. There was 260 CC camps boy’s at the Waterloo camps & about half where at the dance, some bunch, they already have some sent back & 6 in jail this morning for stealing. Aunt Mary went to church & meeting this afternoon in School hall.

Henry came finished sewing wheat this afternoon. Emil didn’t help today, papa sewed. Henry had lunch, dinner. Mr. Sheriff Gauen got another ham 12 lb. & ½ bu. sweet potatoes. A guy here to sell Skill gas stoves, working for the Utility Co. of Waterloo. Harry Wittenauer got bu. sweet potatoes $1.00. this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were to Red Bud brought 2 sacks hog along for us. Henry & family came, kids stayed here & they went to Belleville to the stores are open till 8 o clock. Papa got crushing done. Mr. George Schilling left last Sat. for an extended trip in the East to Fort Wayne Indiana. Bill Refescheinder of Waterloo is celebrating his birthday at Pautler’s tonite. Adm. gent 25¢ ladies free. Moonlighters [playing]. Elmer Matthews has one in Foster Pond tonight. Mr. & Mrs. Rennecker, & boarder Mr. Smith went out this evening.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile had lunch. Barry May has shooting match this afternoon. The Hecker Baseball team has a dance at Manier’s tonite, Jolly Six Osc. of Red Bud, pretty fair crowd attended. We stayed home all day; had beef soup dinner. Mr. Joe Hilpert & family stopped a little while, he bought 2 doz. eggs; they were down at Sparta, he helped to build the CCC camps there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, too take in Maniers dance; outside. Papa & Uncle Fred went out to Henry’s. Pete Birkner looked at the house, he said he would furnish everything & plastered it for $30.00, papa thought that was rather much, so he won’t let him fix it. We went to Oak Grove to a dance, musci [sic] by Chris Dorn’s Orc. Adm. 25¢; nice crowd & good time. James McCaffery 68 of Red Bud died, funeral tomorrow, 9 o’clock by Rev. Stern. Mr. Emil Frick brother of Mrs. Willie Gregson died, will be buried tomorrow afternoon at St. Louis.
