We went out to Henry’s butchering today, 1 big hog, we had lunch & dinner, Emil & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped too. Today is Gus Geodell’s birthday he is 51 yrs. old.

Monday, Nov. 28, 1932

Mr. Hill was over with the papers for papa to sign this morning, he signed 2 sheets, for the right of way, route 156. We washed, ironed. Papa & Jake & Paul Neff went out to Henry’s to saw wood this afternoon, they stated with ours. The egg man was here to buy egg; but we had none to sell. It was in the paper that Alsace Eckert celebrated her birthday on 17 Nov., with card playing & dance.

Thursday, Nov. 24, 1932

We had chicken soup for dinner. Rosalia & Bertille went to Red Bud to the Wedding high mass at 9’o clock, the couple was from Valeymer [sic], & also priest, the bride wore white dress & veil & carried white roses, the bridesmaid wore blue dress & ribbon & carried yellow roses. Frank Geshwender & Mildred Becthlofft are being married in Hecker with a wedding dance in the hall tonight. We are invited to Chas. Hellfrich’s to a birthday party tonite, Mrs. Helfrich’s & Mrs. Ed. Krehrer birthday’s; we all went down there, all the Birkner’s, & Jeff Bell furnished musci [sic], an a crowd & fun. Oh! Boy; cake, beer, wine were served, Hecker, Paderborn, Waterloo, Red Bud, St. Louis, people where all there. They said the wedding dance in the hall wasn’t much, Irene Reheis Orchestra of Belleville played; not crowded at all. Joe Griffin was best man, & her sister & best girl friend & maid of honor. The bride had white dress & veil, & others green, & coral pink; they had a white cloth laid all the way to the alter to walk on; the bride was taken to the coumion [sic – communion] railing by her father, & the girls followed & Frank & the boys came in the side door, everything up to the minute, 4 priests.

Saturday, Nov. 19, 1932

We went out to Henry’s butchering, took Uncle Fred along from the church dance, we took the pig along out it weighed 288 lbs. @ 4¢. We took Uncle Fred home as far as that way around. Mr. Daniel Geodelle, Leona’s grandpa died at 5 o clock, this evening. Henry Volkman’s birthday is today.

Friday, Nov. 18, 1932

We went out to Uncle Fred’s this evening his birthday cake & doughnuts were served; dancing was the main feature of the evening & also singing, those present where , Henry Birkner & family, Christ Buehler’s family, Frank Birkner’s family, George Parker’s family, Fred Papenberg’s family, Clarence Wittenauer & Angela Eichenseer, Mrs. Oscar Birkner & kids, the roads are getting awful muddy.

Monday, Nov. 14, 1932

We washed, ironed, it is awful windy. Louis Schoenborn is getting buried this morn. Tecklenburg got 5 doz. egg @ 29¢. Henry & Floyd where up he got whey. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here awhile paid for there hogs 616 lbs. 2 of them @ 4¢. $24.64, from here they went to Louis Birkner’s birthday, he is 66 yrs old today. The Birkner bunch where all at Oscar’s today, fence fixing frolic. Bertille send a Thanksgiving card to Josie Keller & invited her out for Uncle Fred’s birthday.

Monday, Nov. 7, 1932

It is cloudy. Walter Wittenauer was here this morn., to see if we had a place to keep a horse, so his children can drive up to school, we haven’t no place, he wants to sell pigs, on trade for stack hay. Papa went out to see his pigs, but he said he didn’t want them, skinny, he has 30 little pigs. We washed this afternoon & then spaded the garden. Mrs. Rennecker came over then awhile. Papa went to see Becthold at Smithon [sic]. Rennecker bought 40 bus. corn 20¢ bu. from Jac. Klein. Frank Geshwender & Mildred Bechtlloff where published yesterday in both masses for the 1 time. She was honoree at at halloween bridge party on Oct. 31. Mon. nite, by Mairan Hartnagel, 3 tables, there it was amouced [sic – announced] of the marriage in the near future. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in awhile, then they went to Wm. Birkner’s. The marriage license of Henry Wiegand 28 & Viola Rieso 19  was in the Sat. paper, they where married Sat, & had the dinner Sun by her grandma Kus[illegible]. They had no dance. Cara Jean Hilpert had 14 guests Sat. afternoon at her birthday party, 6 yrs. old.

Bertille is 18 yrs. old today. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary Henry’s family, Christ Buehler’s family where all here this eve, playing cards, music & singing, cake & beer where the refreshments.

Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1932

Hy. Armstutz was here. Ed Scheinder finished sowing wheat up here this morn. Papa went out & cleared a road in the woods to haul grovel out. Bertille went to the dentist. Mrs. Rennecker came over awhile. Those fellows that work on the telephone lines came here, on business. We sold 7 doz. eggs 25¢ to strangers from E. St. Louis, they stopped in. Today is Ralph Rausch birthday 21 yrs. old, Henry is surprising him tonite with a dance at Harry’s. Henry Rausch invited papa & us. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then we all went up to the dance, nice crowds, all different kinds of musci [sic], Ill. Roamer, Karl Boll, Wm. Hy Birkner, beer & cake where served, one cake with 21 candles burning. Joe Hilpert & John Beshtolff of Belleville came here awhile before we went to the dance, they stay here by the priest, are carpeting out on the church place, they are putting new boards around the barn.

Monday, Oct. 17, 1932

Mr Jung egg man was here & told us about some roosters. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon. Today is Kenneth Kemp’s birthday. Skinny Petri is getting buried this afternoon at Waterloo. Papa fixed a brick wall for flowers all around the house. Clara Wagner & kids came over to see it. George is working out at Ed. Cortners, tomorrow he has to go to Belleville. Uncle Fred went up to see Louis Birkner he is down in bed with rinhmatism [sic – rheumatism].
