It is awful cold again, it froze ice last nite. We washed, ironed. Today is Election, lot people in town today. Roy Stauenfbiel’s children have the grip. Papa went out to see Roy on business. Danneberg & son & Ed Meng was here & looked at the colts, they thought they looked wild, because of the white in eyes.

Friday, April 8, 1932

It is colder this morning. Papa went out & got a load of posts & went also to see Roy Stauenfbiel. Uncle Fred helped him to finished setting posts, they was here for dinner, then they went home. Roy Stauenfbiel came here again & said he guessed he couldn’t make it for the colts. Mr. Hugo Ross was here wanted to buy chickens, but we don’t sell any, he also sells suits samples he showed them all to us. The same fellow that was around last Friday to sell fish was here again, we sent him off to Hill, he brought 2 that all he had left. Chas. Jung egg man from Red Bud stopped & bought setting eggs 25¢.

Thursday, April 7, 1932

It rained this morning & turned colder. Papa took 24 doz. eggs to the store & got 9¢, this afternoon he went out to Henry’s & got a load of posts. Roy Stauenfbiel was here & looked at our colts & pigs, but thought it was to much money for him to buy. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up again this afternoon. He helped papa set posts, they where here for lunch, supper. He also brought the check here what Fr. Grootens gave him $20 or $19.23 for he paid Anna Brauns tax, papa had paid it for his house here in town, so now he paid her tax & Uncle Fred had to return the tax receipt. This evening we all went over to Uncle Fred house accross [sic] the street & had a card game, they invited Hy. Armstutz & H.M. Hill, so they played 6 handed. Hy. had one time 1500 trump, & Papa & Uncle Fred bot had it the same time one 1500 spades & the other 1500 hearts, the bid was 2295, Uncle Fred got it, & made it too, they stayed in Hecker all night.

Tuesday, April 5, 1932

We washed, ironed, patched. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, he helped papa to haul hay back too the straw shed for the colts, then Uncle Fred started working on his sewer & papa helped him all day, they put, 2 oil barrels in the ground. We all had dinner, lunch & supper, over there. Hy Armstutz helped a little too. This evening was telephone meeting at Mrs. Stauenfbiel’s, papa sent his dues along with Steve, he also bought our telephone Directory book, along, they have them all published now. The Myers Printing Co. of Belleville did it, they have, Hecker, Prairie, Red Bud, Waterloo, Columbia, Dupo, Valmeyer, Floraville in it, awful nice our no is 2 l 18. Henry & family came up this evening, he went to the Dairy meeting at the new school hall. Jonny Reheis in Hecker, our accesor [sic] was around today. Rosalia, Aunt Mary where at Hill’s got prune trees 2 for each one.

Papa went up in the woods this afternoon again. Today is Roy Stauenfbiel’s birthday also Abraham Lincoln’s.

Sunday, Jan. 17, 1932

Went to Red Bud church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here all day, for dinner & supper. Emil & Uncle Adam where here for supper. Roy Stauenfbiel came to look at some of our sows. He didn’t stay very long.

Saturday, Jan. 2, 1932

Joe Hilpert & friend here for dinner from Belleville. Roy Stauenfbiel brought our sack of crushed corn down this evening.

Sunday, Dec. 20, 1931

We went to Red Bud Church, went out to Uncle Fred’s for supper, got a tree in there woods. Roy Stauenfbiel & Osie Neff, Edwin Watchel came this evening a little business about his road. Dance at Kammler’s, the egg man paid 26 today.

Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1931

We baked pumpkin pies, cake, for celebrating Bertille’s birthday tonight. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon, Uncle Fred & Papa went to see Hempe’s & Kelley. Aunt Mary & Bertille went over by Mrs. Stauenfbiel we got a slip rosebush from her a pink one. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for supper & this eve. Henry & family came, played cards. Henry lost a little heifer today, Johnson Bro. got it. Tonight is talking movi pictures in the School Hall & Baseball Club has a dance in Kammler’s Hall.

Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1931

We washed, ironed, patched, had beef soup for dinner. We went out to Henry’s got a load of wheat 13 bu. 25 lbs. 50¢ bu. took it too Waterloo, got our Whippet curtains fixed at Gentsch’s, for $2.50, then we drove out by St. Joe & got 7 roosters weighing 32½ lbs. at 15¢. the name is Valerias. We stopped at Henry’s & brought 2 qts. milk along home. Today was election of Co. Comissioners [sic], Kettler & Edler. Kettler was in Hecker, & Waterloo. Papa got a check from Hempe Bro. $30.00. Mrs. Stauenfbiel was here this afternoon but we weren’t at home, she called us up this eve.
