Sunday, March 20, 1932

We went to Red Bud to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here, they had dinner over at there house, & supper here & also Henry’s family where here for dinner & supper. The rabbit laid 4 eggs for the boys, they had lots of fun. There where 2 ladies here bought 4 doz. eggs @ 15¢ doz. This evening after we had supper, Aunt Mary, Rosalia & Bertille went up to Lester Gregson’s & got a dress pattern from here, for Bertille size 34 just fits fine. Aunt Mary went to church, & we played 4 handed pinochle, 2 games & then 1.5 handed when she came back, we had a light lunch, they went home in Hecker stayed all night.

Monday, Jan. 25, 1932

Today is wash & iron & patching. Sewed all our aprons. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here this evening, they came after Josie, she was down at Ben Heyl’s today, we played 5 & 6 handed pinochle. Lester Gregson is moving to Hecker in Gambach’s house, he moved some today. Aunt Mary said Edwin Watchel’s windows where smashed in, but she don’t know what happened.

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1931

Bertille & Rosalia went out to Aunt Mary’s & finished the dresses.  Papa went to Waterloo & renew our Waterloo paper, the times.  This afternoon he took the chev. out to Barthel’s & got the oil changed (14342 miles).  Hill’s cooking apple butter.  Hill was here & told Papa about the telephone meeting tomorrow evening at his place.  It rained nearly all night.

Monday, Oct. 5, 1931

It rained this morn.  We washed, ironed.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here this afternoon started on Bertille’s dress.  The egg man was late this evening, pays 23 today.  We made some green tomatoes, cut them up for pickley Lily, cooked tomatoes for catsup.  Made pear preserves today.

Monday, April 27, 1931

We all went out to Uncle Fred’s today, we where there for dinner.  Papa went to Waterloo to pay his tax.  We helped Aunt Mary wash & Rosalia sewed Bertille’s dress.  This afternoon then we all went to the cemetery & cleaned that, then came home, Fr. Grootens & Frank just came there when we left.  Celestine Neff was here & wanted to sell us thicket [ticket] for 35¢ adm. to go to there play on May 5.  We didn’t buy any.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening, him & Papa went to Red Bud, he got some iron barrels.  Aunt Mary & Bertille went up the store this eve. a little while, eggs are 12¢ today.

Tuesday, March 3, 1931

They are sewing oats today again.  George Reheis & Henry were here for dinner today.  He charged Henry $3.50 for sewing oats.  He finished just before dinner.  This afternoon Papa went to Caldwell’s sale, but didn’t buy anything, it was a pretty fair sale.  There were quite a few there from around here.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went too.  This afternoon Philip Peiffer is being buried at Centralia, he used to live around here, it is Ben Heyl’s wife & Mrs. Cleveland’s father.  Rosalia got 17¢ today for eggs.  We set 6 hens tonight & we also got the incubator setting with 100 eggs.  Rosalia finished Bertille’s dress today.

Monday, March 2, 1931

This morning Mrs. Johnny Schilling of Waterloo is getting buried there, they found her dead.  Papa & Rosalia left early this morn. & went out to Henry’s to help him, he is going to sew oats up here today.  Papa brought the team & wagon & Rosalia, the machine [to] Henry’s with oats, & oil & Henry the tractor.  Geo. Reheis is here too helping him.  There was a car crippled one of our red hens last night so we killed the hen & are having it for dinner today.  George Reheis & Henry were here for dinner.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon.  She started fixing Bertille’s dress, like Leona’s pattern.  It is right nice.  Henry & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon after some more oats.

Monday, Feb. 9, 1931

Today is Thirteen Hour Adoration.  Uncle Fred brought Aunt Mary up then he went home.  Henry & family were up too.  Aunt Mary was here for dinner then they sewed a dress for Rosalia, until it was her hour to go to church.  Uncle Fred came up & got her again this eve.  Rosalia & Bertille went to church to the closing.  There were 3 priests, one was the Smithton priest.  Bertille was at Mamie’s to get her dress pattern, & then she went to Ted Eichenseer’s & got it from her.  Mrs. Deuker is on the sick list.  Ethel called for Dr. Smith from Red Bud this evening.  Papa took 12 doz. eggs to store this afternoon & got 13¢ some price.

Thursday, Jan. 15, 1931

Bertille baked cookies this morning.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this morning, & then Papa went along with Uncle Fred to Waterloo to see a party there.  They were here for dinner & supper.  After dinner Uncle Fred & Papa went out to see Wm. Harbaugh, but he wasn’t at home.  Then they went to see Jos. Braun & he wasn’t at home.  So about 2 o’clock they called him up & then he was at home, so they went there & had a talk with him. Then they went into Waterloo again & then down to see Arma & John Braun.  Henry & Leona went to Red Bud to the dentist this afternoon & left the kids here.  Bertille got the mail this evening.  Rosalia finished sewing aprons.  Aunt Mary & Bertille started piecing the quilt together that we started.  There was quilting this afternoon at the School Hall but none of us went there.  Henry was by Christ Buehler’s today & brought a Red Rooster along for $1.00.  The bank is now sealed shut since last Tuesday.  Mr. Burkhardt of Red Bud has the book, bonds.

Tuesday, Jan, 13, 1931

Bertille was at church this morning.  Papa was up town this morning.  This afternoon him & Rosalia went out in the woods.  Henry went too.  There were 2 fellows here this afternoon from Collinsville & wanted to buy timber.  But Papa wasn’t here, so if he is interested he should send them a letter.  Rosalia made herself a apron today.
